Calabria showed its sunniest side in the warm, dry year of 2023. The single-varietal Magliocco from the "Megonio" vineyard benefited from this constellation with deeply ripe grapes, concentrated fruit and healthy berry skins. The vinification process was classic: temperature-controlled mash fermentation, followed by ageing in barriques for around a year – enough to create structure without masking the authenticity of the variety.

The wine presents itself with a deep ruby red colour and purple reflections. Dark plums, black cherries and dried figs on the nose, with nuances of cedar wood, liquorice, black pepper and a hint of mocha. Dense on the palate, with juicy fruit, warm flavour and ripe tannins. In contrast to the structured and somewhat cooler 2022, the 2023 is smoother and more immediate, with Mediterranean charm and lingering spice on the finish.

An impressive, contemporary Magliocco with depth, loyalty to the grape variety and very good ageing potential – full of character and as authentic as Calabria itself. SUPERIORE.DE
