    There are wines that not only tell of earth, climate and grapes - they also tell of light and space. Vistamare is undoubtedly one of these rare creatures. Named after the expansive view that Bolgheri offers as far as the sea on a clear day, this wine is a Mediterranean promise, realised with the care and elegance with which Angelo Gaja has been setting standards for decades - only this time not in Piedmont, but on the Tuscan coast.

    The 2024 vintage brought excitement. A rainy spring and hesitant budding were followed by a summer with moderate temperatures, cooling sea breezes and a golden, dry late summer. The grapes were harvested parcel by parcel and deliberately staggered - Vermentino, Viognier and Fiano from coastal sites on sandy alluvial soil, in small batches that were vinified individually and then blended into the final cuvée.

    In the glass, the wine shines light gold with a greenish reflection. Nothing is loud, nothing is bold. The nose is delicate but multi-layered: white flowers, ripe lemon, nectarine, a hint of sage and a faint hint of salty wind - almost more atmosphere than flavour. The ageing in stainless steel gives it lightness, the brief contact with the fine lees depth. On the palate, Vistamare is like a wave gently rolling in: first cool, then velvety, finally with a hint of maritime spice. The fruit always remains restrained, almost shadowy. What remains is texture, freshness and a subtle minerality reminiscent of crushed mussel shells. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, the acidity fine, the finish clear and linear.

    Vistamare is not a white wine that imposes itself. It speaks of Bolgheri with the voice of a summer's day that was not hot, but far away. A glass on the terrace, where you can't see the sea, but you can taste it. Vistamare is the cool hand on the forehead of a warm day. And a white wine that thrives on silence, light and space.
