    Grotte Alte is more than just a wine, it is a very serene and precise tribute to its homeland. Arianna Occhipinti names it after the white limestone caves above Vittoria, where her oldest vineyards are situated: broodingred soils over limestone, permeated by Mediterranean herbs and the wind. It is here that the grapes from which she crafts her most personal wine are grown – a Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico that impressively expresses the identity of this landscape. The cuvée, made from Frappato di Vittoria and Nero d'Avola, is vinified separately. Following spontaneous fermentation with long maceration periods, both batches mature for around 48 months in large oak casks before being blended and bottled. No fining, no filtration – just time, patience and respect for the terroir.

    In the glass, it displays a deep, transparent ruby red with garnet-red highlights. The bouquet is complex and lively: ripe cherry, dark raspberry, verbena, orange zest, tea rose, Mediterranean scrub and a salty minerality reminiscent of crushed limestone. On the palate, Grotte Alte is both clear and powerful, a wine full of vigour, depth and inner calm. The tannins are silky and tightly woven, the acidity delicately integrated, and the finish long, tart and spicy, with an almost sacred stillness.
