Bricco di Treiso 2021 comes from the single vineyard of the same name, one of the highest parcels in the appellation, where the vines are rooted on calcareous marl soils in a cool microclimate. The 2021 vintage brought ideal conditions: a cool spring, followed by a balanced summer and a long, dry autumn – perfect for the slow ripening of the Nebbiolo. After a long maceration period, the wine matured in large oak barrels and a small proportion of barriques. In the glass, it is garnet-red in colour with delicate orange reflections and notes of rose, sour cherry, liquorice and light spice on the nose. On the palate, it is powerful yet finely characterised, with precise acidity, cool fruit and saline depth. The tannins are present but silky and interwoven – a Barbaresco of austere beauty, great transparency and with long ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barbaresco Il Bricco 2021, whose fruit comes from the village of Treiso, has a pronounced mineral character with dusty chalk rising above blackberries and dried blueberries. In the background are notes of lilac, dried orris root, mint and garden herbs. What characterises this wine, however, are the elegant chalky mineral nuances that go well with the powdery tannins." Wine Advocate
"Bright and precise, this red wine exudes flavours of cherries, strawberries, flowers, wild herbs and minerals. It tightens up, but the energy and power of the fruit continue in the long aftertaste. Shows fine harmony and expression." Wine Spectator
"At the highest altitudes of Treiso, where a cool breeze whispers to the Nebbiolo vines, Il Bricco creates liquid poetry. Dark Marasca cherries play a duet, some fresh from the branch, others transformed into candied jewels, while incense and flower petals dance through the air. On the palate, it performs a tightrope act, balancing graceful power with aristocratic tannins. A wine that is dressed for tonight's gala but still has decades of stories to tell." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2021 Barbaresco Il Bricco caresses the palate with crushed raspberry, cinnamon, rose petal, cedar, sweet spice and pipe tobacco. Sensual at first, the 2021 is deceptive, as it packs a pretty substantial punch of acidity, tannin and overall structure. I find it absolutely beguiling and wonderfully complex right out of the gate." Vinous
"Intense flavours of oyster shells and dark fruits, such as black cherries and blackberries, along with black olives, dark mushrooms and a hint of cloves. It is medium to full-bodied with linear and long tannins and a powerful finish. Nevertheless, it is both polished and refined. It still needs some time to open up, but there is so much in it. Drink it after 2028." James Suckling
