A Barbaresco with a deliberately classic style: Nubiola is created from a mosaic of six small plots in Treiso, Barbaresco and Neive. Different exposures (east, south, west) and altitudes between 200 and 400 metres meet calcareous marl soils with sandy-clayey veins – the basis for complexity, flavour and length. The vines were planted between 1980 and 2004 (Guyot, approx. 5,000 vines/ha) and deliver concentrated and outstanding harvest.

The name is a tribute to history: Nubiola – the name given to Nebbiolo in medieval writings – stands for tradition without nostalgia. The wine is carefully vinified in stainless steel with gentle extraction; the subsequent ageing in a finely dosed combination of small barrels and large 50 hl oak barrels preserves the varietal purity and smoothes the tannins without blurring them. 2019 brought a balanced ripening process with cool nights and a long autumn – ideal conditions for clarity, depth and a precise acidity line.

Bright garnet colour in the glass. A multi-layered nose of sour cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, interwoven with dried roses, liquorice and officinal herbs; subtle hints of cedar wood and blood orange zest add elegant accents. Silky and taut at the same time on the palate: red-fruity precision, fine-grained tannins and a cool, mineral character that carries the length. The finish is clear, savoury and persistent, with balsamic freshness and a delicate almond note.
