Marassio is Giulia Negri's highest Barolo parcel and lies at an altitude of just under 540 metres on the western edge of La Morra – a cool, windy location where Nebbiolo ripens particularly slowly and evenly. The soil, rich in limestone marl and fine clay, gives the wine a distinctive minerality and firm structure. The wine is aged for 30 months in large, neutral wooden barrels to preserve the pure expression of the site. 2020 offered a balanced climate with warm, dry phases and sufficiently cool nights, which gave the Nebbiolo a rare balance of aromatic richness and precise acidity.

The colour in the glass is a clear, deep ruby with a garnet red core. Red cherries, dried rose petals and fine spices open up on the nose, accompanied by notes of pomegranate, orange peel, liquorice and a hint of graphite. On the palate, Marassio is serious yet nuanced: The tannin structure is firm but silky, the acidity fine and carrying. Behind the cool elegance, a complex fruit unfolds, interwoven with salty minerality and delicate hints of walnut and herbs. The finish is long, clearly contoured and carried by an almost floating freshness – a Barolo that rewards patience and will develop great inner depth over the years. A wine for lovers of purist, terroir-emphasised Baroli – precise, radiant and uncompromisingly authentic.
