There is always a common thread linking two characters. For Elio Altare, it is called La Villa. The Barbera – from the same 1948 vines that also produce the Larigi – brings fruit, warmth and that vibrant acidity that makes this grape variety so distinctive. The Nebbiolo, from the Arborina vineyard – one of the estate's most important Barolo plots – lends structure, silkiness and tannin-rich depth.

In total, just 900 bottles are produced of a wine that poses the question: what happens when the most generous grape variety of the Langhe meets the most noble? The answer is La Villa. 60% Barbera, 40% Nebbiolo. The same vinification process as for Larigi and Giarborina: short maceration in a rotary fermenter, 18 months in new French barriques, no filtration, indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphur addition. Those familiar with Larigi will recognise its fruit and warmth in La Villa, but in a more restrained and refined form. Those who appreciate Giarborina will find here the first hints of Nebbiolo, still enveloped in Barbera's softness.

A brilliant ruby red. On the nose, notes of peach, apricot, violet, liquorice and mint. Delicate on the palate with endless length; the tannins are soft and silky, and the final is lively and precise. The best argument in favour of a Piedmontese cuvée. SUPERIORE.DE
