Gaja's Barolo Dagromis still flies under everyone's radar ... because Barolo Dagromis 2020 shows how tradition steeped in history and modern precision can be perfectly balanced. It bears its name in homage to the Gromis family, former owners of these historic parcels near La Morra – today married to the vineyards of Serralunga, whose cuvée is skilfully crafted. Each parcel delivers its Nebbiolo separately for fermentation, undergoes long maceration periods and matures for twelve months in barriques, followed by a further twelve months in large wooden barrels and bottle ageing.

In the glass, the wine has a deep garnet red colour with a subtle orange hue. The bouquet is complex and elegant: red cherry, dark plum and finely nuanced undergrowth aromas intertwine with hints of dried flowers, liquorice and spicy depth – despite its expressiveness, it is always characterised by harmonious minerality. On the palate, Dagromis 2020 reveals itself with an almost dancing freshness that merges into a velvety, densely structured body. The fruit is taut and precise, supported by fine-grained tannins and elegantly woven acidity. The long finish is dry, brooding and brooding – a statement of calm, balance and origin in a modern Barolo. Dagromis is not a loud announcement, but an artful commitment: present, but never loud; structured, but never rigid; a Barolo that deserves attention – in the here and now, but also in the future.
