“Levigne” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
The grapes for Istine's cult Riserva come exclusively from the estate's own vineyards Istine (Radda), Casanova dell'Aia (Radda) and Cavarchione (Gaiole). Only 4,000 bottles of this breathtaking wine, which matures for 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, are bottled each year.
Rich, bright ruby red with a sparkling centre. The bouquet is complex with aristocratic restraint. Compact and freshly fruity nose of rich cherries and ripe raspberries, with amarena cherries and notes of tobacco in the background. Medium-bodied on the palate, but with infinite, captivating depth that awaits discovery. Spreads out beautifully in the body, appears downright juicy and fruit-emphasised and continues to open up towards its terrific finalwith crunchy cherries and a refined saline vein. Purists will love its linear and unmistakable Sangiovese character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant carmine red colour. Powerful cherry nose with a peppery tingle. Full flavour of sweet red fruit and tangy cherry, with a layer of sandy tannins. Very long, lively and animating." Jancis Robinson
"From the Istine and Casanova dell'Aia vineyards, a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes for this flagship wine of the Fronti family. Notes of blackcurrant on the nose, then nutmeg and fresh pepper leaf. Juicy, salty tannins on the palate, with a fruity, balsamic finish and flavourful tension." Luca Gardini
"This Riserva is made from part of the three selected vineyards of Istine - Cavarchione, Istine and Casanova dell'Aia - and matures for a further year in Slavonian oak barrels (30 hl). This is the largest and most structured wine in the range, but it does not lack the precision and purity typical of the estate. The subtle aromas are led by rosemary, sage and juniper, with lavender accents interwoven. The tannins are chalky, structured and still quite dry, and the finish is slightly warming. At the moment, the framework dominates, although the ripe blackcurrant fruit has enough depth to support it." Decanter
"A dense, delineated red, with a core of sweet, ripe plum, black cherry, leather, iron and tobacco flavors. Lively and solidly built, with fine balance and a long finish that echoes the earth, fruit and tobacco notes." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Riserva Levigne 2018 is dense and powerful in flavour. Black cherry, plum, new leather, spices, menthol, liquorice and mocha blend together. The Levigne is a voluminous and complex Riserva that is very well done, even if the influence of the oak is on the verge of overwhelming." Vinous
"The Istine 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Levigne with black label is an attractive, darkly concentrated wine with a rich and lush style. This certified organic wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese and is aged for 24 months in large oak barrels, with the fruit coming from three special cru sites with different soil profiles. The wine begins very elegantly, a little restrained at first, then gently relaxes and envelops the entire palate." Wine Advocate
"Undergrowth, new leather and ripe berries are just some of the flavours you'll find in this fantastic Sangiovese. Velvety, enveloping and delicious, the full-bodied palate serves up fleshy black cherry, baked plum, liquorice and crushed mint, framed by tightly knit, refined tannins." Wine Enthusiast

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM
Every year, the San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the 4 classic Ama vineyards and only a few thousand bottles reach the specialised trade and upscale gastronomy. Full bouquet of graphite, mint and black cherry. On the palate, lots of character and structure, with plenty of elegance, as only the best Sangiovese bring to the glass. Striking tannins promise a fantastic ageing potential! SUPERIORE.DE
"Leafy, eucalyptus and juniper aromas and flavors lead off, with cherry and black currant close behind. Stiff tannins leave an astringent feel, but there is fruit underneath. Overall, this is very fresh and vibrant." Wine Spectator
"Oenologist Marco Pallanti chose not to make Castello di Ama's single vineyard Bellavista and La Casuccia bottlings in 2017 as he felt the excessively hot conditions gave slightly aggressive tannins. Instead, he focused on making the best possible selection from all vineyards to go into the San Lorenzo Gran Selezione. It opens with lots of dusty cherry, dry earth and sweet thyme. Well-stacked with round fruit, the palate is lifted by pressed violet nuances. Assertive but polished tannins give definition, the wood is understated and acidity bright and integrated. Besides deft balance, San Lorenzo demonstrates admirable elegance and is a great success in this challenging vintage." Decanter
"Underbrush, ripe black-skinned fruit, new leather and violet mingle with a whiff of exotic spice on this fragrant, elegantly structured red. The medium-bodied palate delivers ripe black cherry, cassis and star anise framed in polished, enveloping tannins. It shows the firm's hallmark of finesse and impeccable balance, not easy to achieve in this scorching vintage." Wine Enthusiast
"Cherries, dried flowers and slate on the nose with some fresh mushrooms. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy, chewy finish. Lots of structure and freshness to this. Extremely serious as always. Tight and focused." James Suckling
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a fabulous choice for readers looking for an Ama wine to drink now. Radiant and expressive, with striking depth and exceptional balance, the 2017 is pure seduction. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, blood orange and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. This is so beautifully done." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM
Traditionally vinified, its intense ruby red colour, the fruity aroma with spicy and balsamic notes and its gentle start on the palate, which builds furiously, are impressive. The high-class tannin structure rests between the soft components, so that this Brunello from the dream year 2019 simultaneously demonstrates elegance and strength without appearing too modern. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fragrant, very precisely framed bouquet with red berries, mineral notes and violets, hibiscus, with fine mineral hints behind it. Quite lean and powerful in the mouth, very fine style, coherent in itself." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with brightening edges. Opens with notes of fresh cherries, some rosehip and light tobacco. Fine-meshed, polished tannins in the attack and on the palate, still young overall, fine salinity on the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 is forward and rich in flavours. Sun-soaked oily herbs and grilled Mediterranean shrubs are reminiscent of late summer in Tuscany. Mint and rosemary are repeated on the full-bodied, powerful palate. The tannins are mostly ripe, but a slight astringency provides a pleasant aftertaste. More rustic than elegant, but it will certainly have its fans." Decanter
"Aromas of balsamic herbs and dark chocolate give way to dried black cherries and pine shavings as the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino draws the taster to the glass. This is a supple and racy wine with a cool acidity and dark red fruits that flow over a silky textural wave. The finish is savoury and long, but also remarkably fresh, with edgy tannins that linger as the notes of salted liquorice slowly fade. The wine's balance is stunning, but don't be fooled by the 2019's openness; this is a wine for the cellar." Vinous
"A firm and silky Brunello with berry, cherry, cedar and meat flavours. It's medium-bodied and fairly dense, but shows some polish. Better after 2026." James Suckling
"The Fanti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino offers dark fruit and an articulate bouquet with elements of ripeness and balsamic herbs, unfolding its aromas in hints of liquorice, dark plums, smoked tobacco and sweet floral earth. On the palate, Brunello di Montalcino reveals much of its intensity with an abundance of ripe fruit that gently fades in the mid-palate. The tannins are gently integrated." Wine Advocate
"This silky red wine, which evokes flavours of cherries, strawberries and hibiscus, is harmonious and elegant. Mineral and wild herbal elements add details that carry through to the long, energising aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Red mulberries on the nose, hints of star anise, wild rosemary and chinotto. Salty tannins on the palate, hints of small fruits and spicy notes." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio al Vento” Riserva DOCG 2015 (BIO)
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento from the dream 2015 vintage is dark, rich and seductive. It smells of ginger and hints of leather and tobacco before opening up further to reveal black cherry fruit and wild berries. Although cool and supple, it has a velvety texture that strikes a wonderful balance between the tart blackberries and exotic spices within. Its complexity is remarkable: sometimes sweet, sometimes sour, framed by youthful grippy tannins and hints of cranberries, spices and subtle saltiness. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, powerful garnet red. Finely marked, fragrant nose with notes of cranberries, ripe dark cherries, some prunes and plenty of tobacco. Polished tannin on the palate, showing ripe fruit notes, with grippy tannin in many layers on the final." Falstaff
"Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. At first a tiny bit sweaty, then opening up to rich, focused cherry fruit. A palate of lush cherry fruit and sensationally balanced. The juicy fruit, lined with gravelly tannins, goes on and on." Jancis Robinson
"Lots of plum, toffee, floral and cherry aromas that follow through to a full body with ripe, round tannins that follow through to a long, gorgeous finish." James Suckling
"A powerful version, this red delivers concentrated plum, black cherry, iron and earth flavors allied to a base of muscular tannins. The balance tips to the astringent side, but it's not overbearing, with ripe fruit returning on the finish. Needs time and food." Wine Spectator
"Made with certified organic fruit, the Col d'Orcia 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is open-knit and big both in intensity and mouthfeel. This full-bodied Riserva graces us with budding tertiary notes of tobacco and cured leather, but the ripe and fundamentally very rich fruit of this vintage remains firm at its core. You also get cola, licorice and grilled rosemary. This vineyard site sees ancient soils with an important component of well-draining sand, and this helps to concentrate flavors." Wine Advocate
"The darkly alluring 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento requires coaxing to unlock its aromatics from their youthful state. However, patience is rewarded, as crushed stones and ashen earth give way to red and black wild berries offset by hints of camphor and, finally, a note of sweet tobacco. Its textures are like pure silk draped across the palate, as a saturation of salty minerals settle in. Vivid notes of tart black cherry and an air of inner rose resonate throughout as fine tannins slowly clench the senses. The result is one of hulking structure yet also a potent staining of primary concentration; yet through it all, bright acids maintain supreme balance. Wow, the 2015 Poggio al Vento is a masterpiece in the making." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2017
Altesinos Riserva is a taut and firm wine with perfectly nuanced fruit and an impressive aristocracy that always characterises the great elegance of Altesinos wines. In addition to its noble restraint, this Riserva is extremely refined, revealing a cosy ripeness with precise cherry aromas, spices, leather and traces of liquorice. Already exceptionally good today, it will certainly be even better in a few years' time! SUPERIORE.DE
"This red starts out round, turning more precise and taut as it builds to the finish. Shows cherry, wild herb, soy and loam flavors that ply the supple texture, before the tannins exert their influence and the finish tightens up (a good sign for the future)." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows dark fruit, dried cherry and baked plum. The wine is slightly subdued aromatically speaking compared to the new Brunello annata release, and I chalk that up to the very hot and dry conditions of the relentless 2017 summer. Cinnamon, cumin and crushed clove appear in a second wave and underline this Riserva's more elaborate aging regime. The finish is layered and rich with full-bodied Sangiovese intensity." Wine Advocate
"Complex and fragrant nose of neroli, currants, sour cherries, sandalwood, cassis and wild herbs. Roasted walnuts, too. Full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Full of energy and power." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Montosoli” DOCG 2019
Altesinos Montosoli displays the famous characteristics of this particular site, which are always characterised by a pronounced mineral intensity, with hints of crushed granite and lead pencil layers. The five-hectare vineyard has a higher concentration of Galestro clay-slate rock, and the altitude contributes to the freshness of the wine.
Dark, haunting beautiful bouquet with ripe blackberries and cherries, spicy dark flowers and a hint of animal musk. Velvety textures on the palate, emphasised by tart red and black fruits, plus juicy acidity and a hint of fine tannin. The finish is long, elegant and mineral, with dark, floral notes, ripe blackberries and sweet spices. A real prime example from the extremely harmonious 2019 vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, pure ruby red colour. Very fragrant nose of wild strawberries, blackberry candy, vanilla pod, with light spice, some mint and red peach on the finish. On the palate with a great fruit core, on stone fruit, fine sweetness, plus finesse-rich creaminess, comes in several layers, clear and elegant until the long finish." Falstaff
"Rich and round, with a touch of vanilla shading the cherry, strawberry, earth, leather and iron flavors. There's a penetrating character to this red midpalate, before drying, dusty tannins invade the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"Harvested at the very end of September, the 2019 is introverted at first, but the nose eventually hints at porcini mushrooms with liquorice root and bark. On the palate, slender cherries and raspberries form the backdrop, but the earthy tone is pervasive. It's racy with soft, vertical tannins that settle in all the right places, showing a skilfully balanced structure and richness." Decanter
"A tantalising blend of macerated plums, blood oranges, sage and sweet smoke makes the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli a true delight on the nose. Elegant and soothing, it flows across the palate with a silky wave of ripe red fruit and spice, while salty minerals slowly saturate under a hint of purple inner flowers. The 2019 is seamless and harmonious, leaving a layer of edgy tannins competing with refreshing acidity, while hints of tart cranberry and a bitter hint of clove slowly fade away. This is Montosoli terroir at its best, and even at this early stage it's impossible to resist savouring another glass." Vinous
"The Altesino 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli, from a beautiful site that must be seen to be believed, smells of dark fruit, blackcurrant and slate. The mineral element of Montosoli and its slatey, galestro soils comes through beautifully in this vintage, giving the bouquet a linear sense of immediacy and verticality. The mouthfeel is particularly elegant and the wine's acidity is skilfully used to emphasise the freshness, but above all the quality of the fruit. The effect is very powerful and bright, and thanks to the careful ageing in Slavonian oak, you get a hint of baked brioche or Italian focaccia bread." Wine Advocate
"Perfumed and beautiful with raspberry and cherry aromas and flavours. Purity like a mountain stream. Medium to full body with ultra-refined tannins that are so polished and beautiful. Lasts for minutes. Beautiful and real." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Le Lucére” DOCG 2018
The vineyard of the same name has been producing a very balanced Brunello for years. Le Lucère 2018 delights us with its attractive bouquet of wild berries, cinnamon and damp undergrowth. Fine tannins, an invigorating acid wire and a supple texture. As it progresses, hints of citrus, minerals and herbs. A complex and very convincing wine that will continue to grow in the coming years. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is a medium to full-bodied Sangiovese with dark and spicy tones that turn to dark fruit and plum. The San Filippo 2018 Brunello di Montalcino le Lucére shows abundant aromas of sour cherry and dried raspberry, giving the wine a bright first impression. After a short time, a second wave of toasted aromas and spices comes in. The finish is soft, lean and polished." Wine Advocate
"A supple, delicate version that evokes flavours of cherry, liquorice, white pepper, earth and rosehip. Intense and balanced, with a gauzy texture that builds to a chalky feel on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Already complex and open, with aromas of slate, dried rosemary, grilled sage, lemon peel, sour cherries and cardamom. Smooth and full-bodied with supple and fine tannins. I like the undertones of olive pits and herbs. Strong, mineral finish. Taste after 2025." James Suckling
"La Lucère was planted in 1997 and is surrounded by forest on three sides. The windy, east-facing site is relatively cool and is always the last of the vineyard to be harvested. The 2018, which was aged in lightly toasted barriques and tonneaux, is the most elegant and effortlessly balanced wine I have tasted from this estate. It opens with attractive scents of cinnamon, violets and rosemary and has an impressive concentration of wild berry flavours, but is not heavy. The integrated acidity gives the wine the right support, and the tannins are long and fine, adding texture and shape. The best is yet to come." Decanter
"Le Lucére, the usual expression of the substance inherent in the wines of San Filippo, in a vintage that shows a beautiful opulence. Notes of Vignola cherries on the nose, hints of rhubarb and undergrowth, with a finish of wild mint. Juicy tannins in the mouth, with a return of fruit and undergrowth." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
The Brunello di Montalcino 2017 also lives up to the impeccable reputation that the winery has earned over the years. We experience here a profound and beautifully made Sangiovese that presents a powerful and lush fruit of black cherry and spicy plum at the beginning. On the nose, mild oak notes, smoke, tar and roasted nuts. As it progresses, gravel, dried herbs and some mint. This Brunello shows an elegant development in the glass and promises a very long ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark red; reductive fruit, barrel-aged; powerful, fruity, present good tannin, length." Merum
"Floral-fruity bouquet with notes of stone fruit and caramel, also herbs; juicy in the mouth, the tannins finely tart, the final skilfully balanced. Convinces with power and solid fruit." Vinum
"Regularly somewhat "bacony" in the savoury aroma with fine cedar, bacon notes and spices marked by wood ageing, behind wild berries, cassis and raspberries. Rich, pithy, dense palate, with a coarse-meshed tannin network that doesn't quite match last year's in quality. Substantial final." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red. In the nose slightly bacony hints, then ripe raspberries and cherries, shows nuances of light malt, leather. On the palate pithy and with delicately wide-meshed tannin, savoury fruit in the attack and course, still needs to find itself." Falstaff
"Lustrous deep ruby. Firm, deep cherry fruit on the nose and with an undertow of savoury spice. Lots of perfumed sour-cherry fruit on the palate and with bags of firm, but polished tannins on the finish. A bit austere right now, but with great length as well as potential." Jancis Robinson
"Masses of ashen earth, smoke, dusty cherry and roses with nuances of clove lift up from the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. This is silky and pliant upon entry, presenting a rich display of intense red and hints of black fruits laced with chalky minerals that drenches the palate. Penetrating acidity and grippy tannins create a burst of cheek-puckering tension, clenching down hard with youthful poise, as notes of licorice and hard red candies linger through the structured, medium-length finale. That said, it needs time to unwind from its youthful state. Production was down 15–20% at Il Poggione in 2017 due to severe selection of bunches, and all of the fruit that would have been reserved for the Riserva Vigna Paganelli was added to the Brunello instead." Vinous
"Sweet, ripe cherry, blackberry and plum fruit flavors are framed by mineral, tobacco and thyme accents in this vibrant, balanced red. Make no mistake, there are ample tannins too, yet this still finds a nice equilibrium on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a saturated and shiny dark ruby color. This edition is loaded with black and purple fruits, such as blackberry preserves and plum. Those more robust tones are followed by spice, tar and campfire ash. The tannins are young (but not stemmy or bitter), and you'd be best served by letting this wine age and relax with more cellar aging. Il Poggione always makes some of the smoothest and most texturally enriched wines in the appellation, and this vintage is no exception." Wine Advocate
"Underbrush, camphor and new leather aromas get together with grilled herbs. Full-bodied and structured, it also shows restraint, featuring dried black cherry, licorice and tobacco alongside firm, fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Also in the 2017 vintage one of the most multifaceted and interesting references, from an historical firm. Nose of black currant, touches of fresh thyme and licorice, closing on notes of white pepper. The mouthfeel hassapid tannins and a finish with the return of small black fruits." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in gift box
The 2019 Brunello vintage from Altesino stands proudly among its peers. The bouquet has a pronounced floral character with delightful notes of pressed rose petals and dried violets. The fruit tones are elegant and harmonious, ranging from light red cherries to redcurrants. Firm and well-structured on the palate, the multi-layered fruit is accentuated by a refined fennel and liquorice note. Long and stately in the final, great! SUPERIORE.DE
"Already firm and compact on the nose with a fine, complex character, as is often the case on the dark red, black berry side (cassis, dark cherries), with earthy and ethereal notes reminiscent of mint. Very present and again grippy on the palate, the ripe fruit is clasped by a fine tannin corset, the delicate acidity embraces the athletic body. This has power and fine tension. A very typical 2019." Weinwisser
"Bright, light ruby red colour. Very fragrant on the nose, of ripe currants, reminiscent of raspberries, orange juice and cold fruit tea. Shows earthy notes on the palate, ripe berry fruit and full-bodied tannins, with good pressure, warm and grippy with good length on the finish." Falstaff
"Though solidly structured, this red displays macerated flavors of cherry, plum, earth and wild herbs, backed by vibrant acidity. A hint of chocolate graces the finish alongside dense tannins." Wine Spectator
"Altesino covers around 50 hectares in the northern and southern parts of Montalcino. The estate's Brunello is a blend of different vineyards and is one of the best wines in the appellation. While the bottling from Montosoli has a rather solemn tone, this 2019 is cheerful and bright. Strong redcurrants and cherries mingle with plums and aniseed. The lusciously fruity, plush palate is mouth-filling yet agile. Sandy tannins envelop and caress it, while the citrus-like acidity lightens the whole. It's already approachable and has enough depth, concentration and backbone for a solid decade of enjoyment." Decanter
"A medium-bodied red wine with beautiful plum and berry aromas and flavours. Fine tannins and a fresh finish. Very fine and concentrated. This is all about finesse and polish." James Suckling
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a dark ruby red colour in the glass and opens with a beguiling mix of dusty earth, crushed rock, spicy herbs and dried roses. It is racy and supple, with vibrant ripe wild berries underscored by orange and sage, all with a lively acidity. The grippy tannins take control on the finish, but hints of bitter liquorice and dark chocolate leave the mouth wanting more." Vinous
"The Altesino 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows a rich and flavoursome side that this wine carries very well. There is a nice amount of dark fruit that blends into the velvety texture of the wine. Blackberry and plum envelop the palate, adding elegant, full-bodied volume and fine tannins." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna gli Angeli” Riserva DOCG 2018
Brunello di Montalcino Gli Angeli Riserva 2018 is stunningly beautiful. Its seductive presentation beguiles with rich dark fruits, sweet mint, spice and a grounding hint of floral undergrowth. Its textures are seamless, gliding over a core of fresh, bright acids that flank its black cherry and redcurrant flavours. Notes of liquorice, tobacco and sweet herbs linger long over a gentle layer of fine tannin. It has a juiciness, finesse and structure that will give it a long life. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense, serious, finely characterised bouquet. Juicy palate, intense, polished tannins, supple, very stylish, coherent Riserva, polished, cherry, floral notes." Weinwisser
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gli Angeli is dark and rich with a bouquet of plum sauce, Baker's chocolate and sweet sage. It feels seamlessly silky, with a plush wave of ripe red and darker black fruits swirling over a core of savoury minerals and exotic spices. A hint of spiced orange adds a pleasant tension, while a bitter bite of tannins lingers." Vinous
"The La Gerla 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva gli Angeli shows warm vintage characteristics with baked fruit and plums. These impressions of ripe fruit blend well with the medium-bodied texture of the wine. Only 3,775 bottles were produced." Wine Advocate

The vineyard of the same name has been producing a very powerful and highly individual Brunello for years and it cannot be said that this Brunello is not expressive - it is downright expressionistic in its aura and presentation! On the nose, exuberant aromas of blackcurrants, blueberries, violets, porcini mushrooms and iron. On the palate, it is complex, multi-layered, supple and harmonious, with a firm backbone of tannins that are refined and integrated. It shows outstanding length and complexity and, in the top 2019 vintage, is a very dazzling red wine characterised through and through by its extraordinary terroir and with wonderful potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, round and juicy, this satiny and harmonious red sports cherry, plum, blackberry and chocolate flavors. Even the tannins are civilized and well-integrated, providing an overall charm. Expansive on the finish, with notes of mint, dusty mineral and spices." Wine Spectator
"The Brunello di Montalcino le Lucére 2019 is a dark, concentrated wine with black fruits and a very creamy side. There are aromas of coconut butter and vanilla that meet bakery flavours of croissants or pie crust. The oak ageing is considerable, but I give it good cellaring potential as it evolves, especially because there is a lot of dark primary fruit that gives it an ageing dynamic." Wine Advocate
"Black cherry, cedar and dried flowers on the nose, followed by a medium to full body with chewy tannins and a savoury finish. Lots of structure. Muscular and full-bodied, yet soft and beautiful." James Suckling
"It is full of smoky forest flavours with graphite vibes and minerality, cherry pit, heady violet and blood orange depth. On the mid palate it is very concentrated and voluminous, with fine, very precise tannins and refreshing acidity. But what impresses me most is the savoury character of this Brunello, which is built for the long haul." Decanter

Ricasoli's classic is now made from 100% Sangiovese. The grapes come from a south-facing plot at an ideal altitude of 250 to 450 metres above sea level. Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione is a beautiful wine with great richness and depth. The bouquet intense of small red berries, violets and spices. On the palate you can feel the precision, structure and freshness. The tannin and acid structure is well proportioned and promises a long life and an interesting ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a sparkling core. In the nose of pomegranate, blood oranges, some incense, then again rich cherries, noble wood. Very clear and very juicy on the palate, opens on fine orange tones, pithy, light-footed tannin, seems very purposeful and finesse-rich, great length." Falstaff
"Polished and balanced, this red offers cherry, plum, floral, iron and tobacco flavors, with a kiss of vanilla. Focused, exhibiting a dense line of tannins, yet this is balanced and complex. Youthful, so be patient." Wine Spectator
"The Barone Ricasoli 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio represent a new chapter in the history of this popular wine. The wine is 100% Sangiovese selected from various parcels. There has been a shift to fruit from higher elevations and cooler growing conditions. The three main soil types - sandstone, schistous galestro and limestone alberese - are all faithfully represented here. This wine is streamlined and elegant, and its freshness is superb. That crisp and tart character of Gaiole comes through clearly, along with polished mineral, clover, spice and forest fruit." Wine Advocate
"A polished and reserved Castello with cherry, orange-peel and chocolate aromas and flavors. Tight and round-tannined, in a very subtle and curated way. The precision in this wine is impressive. Needs time to open." James Suckling

“Castello Fonterutoli” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione for the first time in order to recognise the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiola.
Castello di Fonterutoli comes from 11 different parcels at an altitude of 420-510 metres around the hamlet of Fonterutoli in Castellina in Chianti. It is both the "Château" and the oldest cru of the estate and was first produced in 1995 as the predecessor to today's Gran Selezione. Rich colour and a clear aroma of blackberries, cherries, violets and flowers, with a hint of nougat. This full-bodied Castello Fonterutoli impresses with its beguiling extract sweetness and polished tannins. The intense and concentrated flavour enchants the senses. The long final is full of elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Velvety and seductive in its style, finely woven and with polished tannins, accompanied by sweet fruit and a warm and full-bodied mouthfeel." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with a subtly brightening rim. Fragrant and clear nose of fresh cherries, ripe raspberries, light spice, precious wood, sealing wax. With expressive fruit on the palate, juicy tannins and harmonious drinking flow, clean, precise, with a pleasant length." Falstaff
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is a powerful, earthy wine. Black cherry, grilled herbs, menthol, liquorice, tobacco and dried herbs form the backbone of this powerful, earthy wine. With time in the glass, this wine opens up beautifully. Pretty floral accents and white pepper lift the finish." Vinous
"Wonderful bouquet of black cherries, herbs and violets, also pepper; extremely elegant in the mouth with a fine finish and tightly woven tannins, ends long on raspberry and violet notes, undergrowth and liquorice." Vinum
"The Mazzei 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli offers a rich texture, lots of dark fruit and an oak-accentuated overall approach. It finishes gently with cinnamon, baking spice and a sweet note of white chocolate." Wine Advocate
"Attractive aromas of red plums, dried cranberries, flavoured citrus peel, red spices and bark. Medium to full-bodied, broad and structured with ripe and well-integrated tannins and juicy fruit. Exciting. Shows notes of rose petals with crushed rock minerality. Long-lasting and lively finish." James Suckling
"Another great Gran Selezione project for Castello di Fonterutoli. Visciola, a hint of nettle and undergrowth, a nice iodine note on the finish, dense and compact mouthfeel, salty tannins, finish with a fruity and oily aftertaste. Persistent." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Rose petals, mint, cinnamon, dark sweet cherries and smoke lift from the glass in a translucent, wiry Brunello that builds on energy, power and opulence. Here, length and fruit are in the foreground and, together with a clearly defined tannin structure, Leopoldo Franceschi's team has produced a wine here in a very classic vintage that will really reveal itself over the next few years. As always, it is one of our favourites, and its still outstanding value is also great fun! SUPERIORE.DE
"Wide-ranging bouquet with lots of cedar, ripe red and dark fruits, wild strawberries, cassis and red currants. Behind this, the wood barrel ageing also shows with fine cedar, cloves and dark spices as well as herbs. Rich, almost meaty and dense palate, not quite as dense as 2016, but immensely present freshness and dynamism, also the tannin network seems a bit leaner than usual and of best quality. Very persistent and long aftertaste with crunchy berries on the final." Weinwisser
"Firm, a touch animalic aroma of ripe mixed berries and a hint of plums with fleshy notes, tart nutty hints, pepper and ethereal herbal tones. Taut, tart, ripe, quite dense fruit, present, fine, youthful tannin and some acid bite, persistent, slightly herbaceous, tobacco and peppery, clearly salt in the background, plenty of power but also freshness, not eternally deep but perfectly vinified, very good, firm, tart finish." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby red. Spicy-animalic nose, then ripe Amarena cherry and plum, walnut, undergrowth, shoe polish. On the palate equally earthy tones, wide-meshed tannin, plus dark fruit." Falstaff
"Shiny, deep ruby red. In the nose still quite closed with just a hint of Moroccan leather. On the palate pure cherry fruit flavours with lots of ripe acidity. Fantastic, compact, gravelly tannins that are a real tour de force in this vintage. A hedonistic whole that you can already approach but will improve with time." Jancis Robinson
"A smoky entry leads to leather and tobacco nuances that repeat on the palate. The 2018 is packed with flavours of cherries and baking spices. It feels medium-bodied but is very rich and its powerful bite contributes positively to the pleasing mouthfeel. It will get even better with another year in bottle." Decanter
"This is a flavourful, complex Brunello with aromas of fresh and sour cherries, plums, bay leaves, rosemary and olives. Also cloves and liquorice. It is medium to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Supple and well integrated, with a long and deliciously spicy finish." James Suckling
"The Il Poggione 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows a dark and spicy character with more fruit weight and concentration than can be found in many of its competitors. This wine shows a dense focus padded with dark cherry, blackberry, roasted spice, mahogany smoked meat and ploughed earth. Despite the powerful flavours, this Sangiovese is actually quite lean and polished in texture. The tannins are soft and easily accessible. The estate's Riserva Vigna Paganelli was not made in 2018, so the fruit from this wine came here instead." Wine Advocate
"The dense structure sets the pace for this red wine, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, mint and tar that are appealing and expressive. Rosehip, orange peel and earth are evident in the long, expansive aftertaste. It is designed to last a long time." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino impresses from the first swirl of the glass, with a heady burst of exotic spices and crushed ash giving way to dried black cherries and grilled herbs. It combines the energy of the vintage with the dark, balsamic fruits of Montalcino's southern foothills, while zesty acidity maintains balance and minerals saturate towards the finish. The finish is long, savoury and structured, but its tannins are rounder than expected, giving it a classic feel but also leaving a delicious sensation that tempts the taster to reach for the glass again and again. The 2018 is certainly one of the top wines of the vintage, not to be missed." Vinous
"One of the first wineries to deal in Brunello, one of the founding members of the Consortium. A Brunello characterised by freshness, pomegranate on the nose, hints of citrus thyme and white pepper. The palate has juicy tannins with a fruity return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna Loreto” DOCG 2017
The approx. 1.6 hectare single vineyard Loreto is situated on a slope directly next to the winery and has an ideal south-east exposure. Bright berry bouquet with notes of ripe cherries, plums, cassis, leather and spices. The rich palate reveals warm tones of game, Indian spices and cured meat, topped with a surprising intensity of bright red cherries. An extremely well-balanced and long Brunello that truly does not lack power and character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Flattering notes of maraschino cherries and chocolate, also the herbal nuances well integrated; precise texture, the distinctive tannins and the fresh acidity form a symbiosis, combines melting and fullness, opulent sweet berry and yet spicy the final." Vinum
"Intense bouquet with ethereal spicy notes like tobacco and leather, behind it a beautiful (forest) berry fruit. On the palate with enormously juicy-melting impact, showing a refined complexity with ripe fruit, polished tannin and complex spice." Weinwisser
"Sparkling ruby with a pronounced garnet rim. Impressive nose with notes of tobacco, dark wild raspberries and some leather. Lots of melting on the palate, ripe berry fruit, opens up with fine-meshed tannin in many layers, long finish." Falstaff
"Cherry and orange peel with some fresh herbs follow through to a medium to full body with a compressed, polished palate and a long, firmly structured finish that gives the wine form and texture for the vintage." James Suckling
"While Mastrojanni will not be releasing its iconic Schiena d'Asino bottling in 2017, the estate produced a lovely Vigna Loreto. The 1.5ha parcel was planted in 2000 with seven different clones bearing small berries. It offers an intriguing mix of florals and cocoa with blood and iron. The tannins are polished without being too polite, wrapping around a core of dense blackberry. Despite its fruit concentration, this remains midweight and tangy, with a mineral, savoury drive. It's well worth seeking out in this vintage." Decanter
"The Mastrojanni 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto is another terrific interpretation of this hot and dry vintage, only in this case the grapes come from a special southeast-facing plot. Vigna Loreto is tonic, sharp and focused but also generous and open-knit. It offers a broad display of black and purple fruits, along with spice, peat moss and crushed flowers. Few producers were able to achieve this level of elegance in 2017." Wine Advocate

“Percarlo” Sangiovese di Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
Sangiovese in purezza. Wonderfully spicy aroma, dark forest berries and cherries, some graphite and cedar wood. On the palate, silky elegance, juicy, dark berry fruits, paired with an animating fruit-acid play that makes the wine really dance across the tongue. Percarlo has depth and length as well as potential for many years in the cellar. One of the great single-varietal Sangiovese of central Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
"A vibrant, open-knit red, featuring black cherry, blackberry and plum fruit accented by iron, wild herbs and spices. Taut and linear, with a silky texture, lingering finish and resonant tannins. Shows terrific energy that builds from the beginning to the long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"One of the most well-known Sangiovese wines on the market is the San Giusto a Rentennano 2019 Percarlo. This organic wine has a touch of extra ripeness or richness that goes beyond the bouquet. You feel like you can bite into the fruit, and indeed the 2019 vintage stands out for its unique power and density. There's a lot to take in, and there's enough lingering fibre and fruit power to fill a long drinking window." Wine Advocate
"The Percarlo 2019 is a wine of restraint. The fruit is very pure and the tannins are very fine for this year, but also a little firm, which needs time to release. Bright red fruits, cedar, tobacco, liquorice, blood orange and spices open up nicely and play with the lively tannins. I suspect the 2019 will need a few years to reach its best level." Vinous

Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiola.
Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes are vinified separately for the first time by the Mazzei family as Gran Selezione with the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby, a restrained but clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth, and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well integrated tannin makes it seem supple from the first to the last glass and impresses with a long finish - its elegance is magnificent! SUPERIORE.DE
"Fruity-spicy on the nose; pithy in the mouth, perfect tannin-acid balance, finishes long on red berry notes. Still needs to mature." Vinum
"Brightening, medium dense ruby. Shows fine notes of strawberry, raspberry and rose petals on the nose, some sour cherry. Fine-meshed tannin, nicely brought out fruit, a little brittle on the back end." Falstaff
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badiòla is a bit tight and austere in this vintage. Then again that is the site. Crushed rocks, mint, white flowers and red-toned fruit open over time, but only with great reluctance. The Badiòla is an intriguing wine, to be sure, but it is not especially forthcoming today. Patience is of the essence, as this taut Gran Selezione is going to need at least a few years to unwind." Vinous
"Super elegant nose with red fruits, rose petals, violets, toasted almonds, blood oranges and fresh herbs. Bold palate with full body." Decanter
"Sweet berries on the nose with citrus and cedar undertones. Hints of dried flowers, too. Full-bodied with a tight palate and polished tannins. The wine shows plenty of fruit, cream and cedar undertones. Chewy yet friendly finish." James Suckling
"The Mazzei 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla offers an extra layer of intensity that is delivered over a medium-rich concentration. With fruit sourced from one of the Mazzei family's historic vineyards, this distinctive wine stands apart in the portfolio thanks to its bright cherry and berry aromas as well as the subtle spice, tar and smoke that fill in the back so seamlessly. This wine should easily hold until the 20-year mark." Wine Advocate
"A true wine gem from the municipality of Radda in Chianti, from Romanesque 'Pieve' of Badiòla. Three Sangiovese biotypes, three from mass selection, the nose is thick and intense, wild berries, hints of marjoram, eucalyptus and peony on the finish. The mouthfeel is taut and compact, with savoury tannins. Dark small fruits reappearing in the aftertaste." Luca Gardini

“Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling ruby red. Complex and enveloping bouquet of rich cherry, black forest berries, violets, tobacco, tar, liquorice, incense and smoke in the background. The single-vineyard Chianti Classico San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins, of exemplary harmony and a savoury, slightly salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Seductive berry aromas, nuances of spices and dried flowers, multi-faceted; precisely crafted on the palate, the acidity and tight tannins in harmony, the finish complex and pleasantly mineral, with plenty of character and length." Vinum
"Rich ruby with a dark core. Shows pronounced spicy notes on the nose, of sandalwood and cardamom, then lots of blackberry and dark cherry. Multilayered and present on the palate, grippy, hearty tannin, shows good tension, salty, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Expressive aromas of cherries, blueberries, chocolate, spices and smoked meat. The texture on the palate is creamy, with velvety tannins, showing energy and a lively violet edge towards the finish." Decanter
"This opulent Chianti Classico is highlighted by blackberry, black currant and tar, with toasty oak accents. Starts out smooth, then the dense tannins emerge. Remains long and intense on the aftertaste, which is marked by the dark fruit and iron." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is potent, but also shockingly closed for this dry, warm year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2017 as it needs quite a bit of time to be at its best. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, cloves and licorice all build into the huge, explosive finish. There's tremendous substance here, not to mention tons of sheer character." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
With the exception of 2016 and 2019, the last eight years in the region around Montalcino have been characterised by warm and dry conditions. For this reason, Il Poggione has started to prioritise irrigation for emergencies (which is becoming more and more of a necessity in the south-west of Montalcino) and is looking for a better balance in the higher vineyards. This is not the only reason why Il Poggione is one of the top producers every year, with an extremely fair value.
Oenologist Alessandro Bindocci compares the 2019 and 2016 vintages as follows "Both Brunellos are quite classic, but the 2019 has more energy and fruit than the 2016 at the same stage."
Opens as a medium-dark appearance with a pretty Sangiovese lustre and ruby red shimmer. In the glass, the 2019 shows a wildly romantic side and a dense fruit profile. The aromatic focus is on blackberries, dried cherries, tobacco and a hint of smoked tobacco or horse saddle. On the palate, a contrasting spectacle of dark red fruits, sweet spices and salty mineral notes; all supported by a silky texture and lively acidity. As it progresses, it has a beautiful, firm grip and a stable backbone, with youthful tension and fine-grained tannins, which will give it great ageing potential. Il Poggione is not only a safe bet for us every year and the 2019 edition is once again one of the best representatives of this noble appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense bouquet with ripe red and dark fruits, blueberries, wild strawberries, cassis and redcurrants. Behind this, the oak barrel ageing is also evident with a fine animal note, cedar, tobacco, chocolate, dark spices and herbs. Fleshy, dense palate with a coarse-meshed tannin network, but of the best quality. Very persistent and full-bodied on the final." Weinwisser
"Dark, youthful ruby red colour. Very closed and brooding with just a hint of fragrant raspberry, tea leaves and oak. Generous and compact on the palate. A layer of soft cherry and raspberry fruit, lined with quite powerful tannins that need more time. Carries its 15% with ease. Closes on the finish and needs more time." Jancis Robinson
"Lots of dried fruit, such as figs and dried cherries, followed by tree bark, rosemary and a hint of sandalwood. Full-bodied and creamy on the palate with a solid tannin structure. Wonderful length. Dense and opulent." James Suckling
"The Il Poggione 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows a developed bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flowers and autumnal foliage. A second nose reveals dark liquorice, wet slate, cola and grilled rosemary. The tannins are powdery and dry." Wine Advocate
"Features ample plum, cherry, iron, tobacco and underbrush flavors buoyed by a plump texture to match the dense structure, plus vibrant acidity to keep it all focused. Another year of aging should allow the finish to stretch out and this wine to reach its full potential." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 vintage is very balanced, somewhere between 2016, 2013 and 2010. Sant'Angelo in Colle, which suffers in warmer vintages, has done very well and Il Poggione is a great example of the harmony of the area's wines in this vintage. At first sniff it is fruity, later becoming more restrained, with black cherry, violets, leather, graphite and the typical nutty finish. The chalky tannins are extracted but velvety, emphasised by an almost piquant acidity." Decanter
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino draws the taster close to the glass with its dark and earthy blend of crushed ash stones giving way to rosemary, cedar, exotic spices and a core of raspberry jam. Enveloping and serene, it flows across the palate like pure silk, steadily building tension as tart wild berry and orange notes give way to a sweet herbal push. The 2019 finishes with tremendous length and is classically structured as crisp tannins linger and purple flowers slowly fade over a tactile layer of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the vibrancy of the vintage, yet it is still a baby today." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino “Vecchie Vigne” DOCG 2019
Vecchie Vigne by Siro Pacenti is still one of the most modern wines to emerge from this sun-drenched appellation in southern Tuscany. The grapes come from old vines that are between 38 and 53 years old. You can immediately taste the great 2019 vintage and the richness and suppleness of its dark fruit and lush blackberry flavours. Vecchie Vigne offers that certain hint of exotic spices, savoury tobacco and even notes of talcum powder or buttered popcorn, which come from the oak - it is aged for 24 months in French barriques - which does it a world of good and makes it unmistakable. All the attributes of this exceptional wine are clearly pronounced and unmistakably convincing, all of which contribute to a creamy and infinitely long-lasting mouthfeel and make this wine one of the best of the vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby colour with a fine garnet rim. Initially shows slightly earthy notes on the nose, some rust, then lots of black cherry and blackberry, fine spice. Full-bodied and firm on the palate, shows plenty of grippy tannins, juicy berry fruit, then slightly drying on the final, still needs ageing." Falstaff
"The Vecchie Vigne combines fruit from Siro Pacenti's 35+ year old vineyards in the northern and southern quadrants of Montalcino and shows even greater intensity and power than the Pelagrilli bottling, but also more nuance and sophistication. With its deep ruby red colour, it offers an intriguing blend of grilled herbs, toasted cedar, incense and ferrous minerals. On the palate, it is highly concentrated and full in its purity of black fruits accompanied by sweet herbs and spices. The powerful, well-padded tannins are polished and slowly dissolve into a tactile powderiness on the long liquorice finish." Decanter
"Vines over 35 years old, a Brunello of pleasant finesse. Notes of cranberry, rhubarb and peony on the nose, with hints of cinnamon. The palate reveals salty tannins, recurring notes of small fruits and undergrowth. Finishes with a hint of sweet spices." Luca Gardini
"The Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne 2019 is intense. It smells of rosemary and spiced blood oranges before developing into dried black cherries and a hint of incense. On the palate, it flows with a velvety texture complicated by tactile mineral tones and savoury acidity, while cool red and black fruits slowly saturate. A web of fine-grained tannins envelops the senses as the 2019 finishes dramatically long and colourful, leaving traces of cedar spice and inner rose that linger on and on. This is a formidable VecchieVigne that will pay dividends in the cellar." Vinous
"A darker expression of the vintage, showing aromas and flavours of black cherries, blackberries, iron, tar and tobacco. Dense and muscular, but with lively acidity that keeps it long and concentrated. The tannins are resonant and the lasting impression is one of sweet fruit." Wine Spectator
"The Siro Pacenti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne has a dark appearance and is made from old vines. It has notes of baked blackberry pie crust, raspberry jam, barbecue smoke, cigar box and every other fairly extreme aromatic description you can apply to a heavily barrel-aged red wine. It is certainly exaggerated, especially at this young age, but experience teaches us that Siro Pacenti's wines need time, a lot of time, before all the elements mesh. The alcohol content is 15% and the tannins are a real hammer." Wine Advocate
"Black cherries, lavender, black mushrooms, pencil and violets on the nose. Full-bodied with a powerful and polished tannin structure that lasts until the end. Pure, silky texture. Fascinating aftertaste of ripe fruit that is nevertheless fresh and taut. Also some orange peel. Wonderful on the finish. So well elaborated and pointed. This wine still needs three to five years to develop, but it is already very impressive." James Suckling

“Il Guercio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021 · MAGNUM
Treat yourself to a big glass or better: decant the wildly racy Il Guercio, then a dark berry mix with black cherries and a hint of dark chocolate will be in the air. On the palate, equally juicy Sangiovese fruit, full-bodied with fine silky tannins, elegant and finely structured, with animating acidity, very precise and animating in the long finish. Potential for many years in the cellar. A not at all loud, but highly impressive wine full of elegance and the masterpiece of the winery. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Il Guercio is a wine with class. Bright, silky and beautifully perfumed, the 2021 has tons of finesse. Sweet red Sangiovese fruit opens first, followed by a burst of exotic floral and spicy notes that give it character. The wine has real substance and presence. The racy yet light-footed Il Guercio 2021 is a true star." Vinous
"Radiant, shiny ruby red. Open and inviting nose, floral, of violets, roses and juicy fresh cherries, underpinned by vegetal spice, plus sugared wild strawberries. Opens up on the palate with great crispness, juicy, clear, showing youthful fresh tannin on the final, can still age." Falstaff
"The Tenuta di Carleone 2021 Il Guercio, named after the Tuscan word for "one-eyed rogue", is a pure Sangiovese aged in cement barrels for up to five months. The wine delivers a very clear and true-to-type expression with bright plums, wild cherries and iris roots. You can taste the artisanal approach of this beautiful wine. Dusty lime notes provide a cool finish. I am pleased to recommend this very special wine." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Filo di Seta” DOCG 2018
Filo di Seta is produced in small batches and is an impressive wine. With only 4,000 bottles produced, it reflects the extreme power and depth that can be achieved in this cooler microclimate of Montalcino. The vineyards are located on steep slopes and surrounded by dense forest and vegetation. One cannot help but detect a wild and thorny element in this wine, reminiscent of forest floor, truffles and autumnal foliage. These pretty accents add complexity to the solid core of dark fruit. The powerful mouthfeel is polished and dense. SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose is on the berry side, a hint of mocha, gracefully underpinned by peppery notes; the attack is delicate and homogeneous, crisp acidity, the finish fruity and long. Also in this vintage harmonious and very successful." Vinum
"Brilliant red with brick-like reflections. Spicy, deep cherry with complex spice notes but not obviously dried. Elegant, supple red fruits with a touch of sweet oak that is fully integrated. Fresh, gem-like acidity. Beautiful elegance and grippy but fine-grained tannins." Jancis Robinson
"Originally planted in the late 1980s with a variety of clones, Filo di Seta is at a lower altitude than the other Romitorio plots. The soil here is also richer in clay. The result is usually a riper and denser expression compared to classic Brunello, which is indeed the case here. Plush cherry and plum are dusted with allspice and nutmeg, and there is a seductive hint of chocolate on the palate that I often find in this wine, along with polished oak. It's already open and approachable, but not without a solid backbone, and will steadily develop its charms over the next ten years." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta emerges from the glass with a beguiling bouquet that opens with violets, lavender and stone dust that evolve into pretty dried strawberries and hints of clove. This is a Brunello of contrasts, as the velvety texture is punctuated by a salty minerality before red and black fruits unfold on the palate, leaving a primary colour. Blue and purple flowers mingle with acidic citrus as the 2018 finishes with tremendous length and complexity that is completely uncharacteristic of this vintage. Fine tannins linger, promising a long and steady evolution. The Filo di Seta is a complete success for 2018, but will still need some time to fully develop." Vinous
"A rich, concentrated red, expressing plum, cherry, earth, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors. Shows sweetness from the ripe fruit midpalate, along with a balanced, harmonious texture. Features fine length backed by vibrant acidity and refined tannins." Wine Spectator
"This wine is fast becoming one of the most interesting sites to have emerged in the Montalcino appellation thanks to the cool microclimate and black slate soils of the site. The Castello Romitorio 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is a wine of unique dimension and depth. It shows tart, almost crunchy red fruits and cassis, with notes of cola, balsamic herbs, gravel and pencil shavings in the background. The tannins need another two to three years to become silky." Wine Advocate
"Complex and refined with seamless layers of ripe and dried cherries, truffle, caramel, dried flowers, nutmeg, chocolate orange and cassis. It is full-bodied, layered and polished, with firm tannins that are well integrated. Long and elegant. Delicious already, but even better after 2024." James Suckling

“Asinone” Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Its dense, intense colour has a lush bouquet, whose fruity hints of blackberries, sour cherries and blueberries are given an elegant touch by the delicate, very subtle wood spice. In the rich, firm flavour, the smooth tannin is well fused with the structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. Noble nose of sugared cherries, ripe strawberries, a hint of cinnamon stick, dried oranges, light spice. Great texture and lovely freshness on the palate, beautifully emphasised fruit, expressive, juicy, shows great length and complexity, will age for many years." Falstaff
"Intriguing bouquet of ripe cherries, dried flowers, herbs and subtle spices; precise on the palate, the acid accents in harmony with the excellently polished tannins, the final finely chiselled and persistent with lots of fruit, including balsamic notes. A seducer with a lot of noblesse." Vinum
"The 2020 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone captures the attention with a mentholated blend of crushed blackberries, cedar shavings and cocoa. The palate is soft and supple, with ripe wild berries and a gentle layer of sweet tannins that builds towards the end. The 2020 leaves a primary concentration on the palate and a long finish. This Asinone from a warm vintage is the perfect choice to wait for the more structured vintages to mature." Vinous
"An exciting and mineral expression with fine spices and pure red berries. The palate is transparent and restrained, with fine tannins that linger with minerals and berries in a long, intense finish." James Suckling
"A powerful, straightforward red wine with plenty of blackberry, black cherry and blackcurrant flavours to balance the dense tannins. Lively, energetic and balanced, with a long, rich finish that reflects the dark fruits and adds a hint of tobacco." Wine Spectator
"From the vineyard of the same name, a wine with an international orientation, but without blinkers, on the contrary, with great personality. Dense nose of undergrowth fruits, blackberries in the leading role, in the mouth it shines with its balance, salty tannins, great juiciness and a balsamic finish with excellent persistence." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Il Marroneto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino already shows an exciting purity and intensity of red fruit in the glass. The character is fresh, lively, youthful and vibrant. The bouquet is characterised by black cherry, Mediterranean maquis, peppercorns, dried cranberries and rosemary. The base of the wine is light, almost weightless, but its structure and firmness finally catch up with it in the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, brightening ruby red colour. Charming and inviting nose with notes of sour cherry, pomegranate, some saffron, blood orange and fresh plums. Shows a lot of juicy, present fruit at the beginning, then opens up with fine-meshed tannins, embedded in sweet enamel, glides along elegantly." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red colour. Stunning nose full of minerals with raspberries and a hint of eucalyptus. Elegant and juicy with pure raspberry and superfine but firm tannins accompanying the fruit. Great precision. Transparent." Jancis Robinson
"A cascade of bright cherries, rosebuds, lavender and cedar spice waft up from the moodily perfumed 2019 Brunello di Montalcino. It is surprisingly juicy yet quite complex, with hints of zesty orange and vibrant acidity giving it tremendous energy, while crisp red fruits with clove flavours drench the senses. On the finish, the tannins are sweet and round, but not too hard. The 2019 finishes spicy and fresh, leaving notes of mint, violet and sweet herbal tea. Don't be fooled by its energy and accessibility; the 2019 holds a tremendous amount of power in reserve. This is an enchanting Brunello from Il Marroneto." Vinous
Iacopo Mori described the 2019 vintage during his visit to Decanter in December 2023 as "perfect, no diseases... lots of fantastic grapes". Indeed, 2019 looks excellent across the board. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino from Il Marroneto has an incredible aroma: a seductive hint of aromatic cherry and fragrant violets. In the mouth, it is extremely precise, with a silky texture and sweet red fruits. It is intense, edgy and flavoursome, with a beguiling purity and finesse. Delicious." Decanter
"Alessandro Mori's wines are easy to recognise in a blind tasting as they have a high intensity and lively Sangiovese aromas. They are truly unique. The Brunello di Montalcino Il Marroneto 2019 is a wine with a relatively short and hot fermentation that respects the local winemaking tradition and stays true to the spirit. The steep verticality of the bouquet evokes almost carbonic or lifted flavours of bright cherries, strawberry pie, lilac and grapes. You get straight to the heart of the Sangiovese. The tannins are extremely fine and powdery, and the freshness of the fruit is wonderfully intact. This wine is a real cracker in 2019." Wine Advocate
"The impeccable quality of the raw material from Il Marroneto in another exceptional reading of Brunello. On the nose, Marasca cherry in jam, then notes of gardenia, clementine peel and juniper. Spicy tannins on the palate, again with notes of cherry and citrus fruits." Luca Gardini
