“Sassicaia” Bolgheri DOC 2006
Sassicaia 2006 is an immensely typical Bolgheri. In short: a classic, ripe on the nose and on the palate with a beautiful expression of blackcurrant and bay leaf alongside a splendid spiciness. As it progresses, notes of cassis, pickled cherries, a hint of leather in the background. A vintage that is particularly convincing after the years of maturity with its fine-meshed tannin and Mediterranean character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Vibrant dark crimson. Very much the opposite of Rollandian style. Lovely freshness and relaxed fluidity. Great stuff. Great balance and only just ready." Jancis Robinson
"Displays sweet tobacco, plum and berry aromas, with a jammy undertone, turning to licorice on the palate. Full-bodied and balanced, with silky tannins, a lovely texture and plenty of fruit. Outstanding Sassicaia, with structure and finesse." Wine Spectator
"Sweet tobacco and berry with hints of currants. Full, soft and silky. Lots of fruit and a long finish. It's subtle, dense and sophisticated." James Suckling
"The Tenuta San Guido 2006 Bolgheri Sassicaia is a timeless classic. This might just be the vintage to photograph in an encyclopedia entry for Sassicaia. This is especially true at this exact moment in its long and promising drinking window. The wine shows less volume compared to some of the more opulent vintages, but it absolutely excels in terms of length and finish. It offers amazing drive and momentum that are fueled by the extremely fine nature of the wine's texture and the seamless unity of its flavors." Wine Advocate
"The 2006 Sassicaia may very well go down as one of the all-time great recent vintages for this Tuscan thoroughbred. The year started off very warm but by August evening temperatures had moderated, leaving the fruit with a stunning combination of ripeness, perfume, acidity and tannin. The wine is simply glorious, that's all there is to it. Layers of dark fruit meld into smoke, leather, violets, menthol, earthiness and tar as this profound wine opens up in the glass. The creamy, silky finish lasts an eternity, as waves of fruit caress the tannins with breathtaking elegance. Everything is in the right place in this magical Sassicaia. This is one for the ages. In a word: Awesome." Vinous
"To be honest I gave the Sassicaia 1985 a 100 points at the same tasting, but those notes have already been published, and it’s a vintage that has been celebrated plenty of times. Both bottles were from one of the standout tastings of the year – in Rome, a vertical of Sassicaia dating back over five decades. This 2006 has guts and glory, there is stuffing here. The exotic heat comes through like a pan-seared filet steak, nothing more than a flash fire that gives way to succulence. More exoticism with the dancing array of flavours, from plums, damson and spices to forest fruits and heather then the menthol kicks comes in. You just want to linger over this glass, pick apart the individual flavours and get to understand what it is saying." Decanter

The small vineyard is located at an altitude of 500 m above the Galatrona Tower and offers the best conditions for growing the French grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon. Due to the limestone subsoil, this site is also called a luxury site (campo lusso). Intense and generous bouquet of dark fruits, leather and chocolate. Complex and deep on the palate, very focused and with increasing aeration very elegant and aristocratic. A complete red that will delight not only Cabernet lovers. Only about 1,300 bottles of this spectacular drop can be produced per vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Impressive nose with notes of tobacco, some smoke, plus lots of dark berries, cassis and blackberry, behind it a carpet of spices. Very juicy on the palate, lots of ripe berry fruit, then opens up with gripping, dense tannin." Falstaff
"This bright version evokes black currant, black cherry, lavender, iron and tobacco flavors. Firm and dense, with a lingering, spice-tinged finish. Very fresh and engaging." Wine Spectator
"The Petrolo 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Campo Lusso is another terrific release from the very talented team at one of Tuscany's headline estates. This expression of Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a rich, velvety texture with immediate aromas of blackberry, crème de cassis and sweet baking spice. Yet there is a slightly perfumed side to this wine with pressed flowers and a hint of church incense over exotic spice and cured leather. This is a balanced and elegant expression from Tuscany that never shows too much heaviness or weight." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Campo di Lusso, Petrolo's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is terrific. Cabernet speaks its own dialect here, so its hard to compare the Petrolo with wines from other regions. Bright acids, potent tannins and strong savory accents abound. There is no shortage of personality or character, that much is clear. Give the tannins a few years to soften." Vinous
"Extremely perfumed aromas of blackcurrants and fresh lavender follow through to a full body with a very tight palate of dark fruit and finely textured yet chewy tannins. It’s rather subdued, but shows character and intensity. Give this at least four or five years to open. Try after 2025 and onwards." James Suckling

“Pietradonice” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
Pietradonice 2020 is so easy and pleasant to drink that it is almost dangerous: the bottle is finished much quicker than you would like. In Montalcino, there are few alternatives to the local Sangiovese grape, and wines of this quality made from Cabernet Sauvignon can be counted on one hand. Rich, dark ruby red in colour, followed by ripe aromas of blackberries, plums, spices and sweet tobacco. Complex and multi-layered on the palate, with wonderfully polished tannins and already a beautiful accessibility. Juicy on the attack and on the palate, very well-developed fruit, monumentally long final. Giacomo Neri's Pietradonice is Cabernet Sauvignon at the highest level and has become a legend, as there is hardly a wine in Montalcino that can even come close to equalling it. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby red colour with slightly brightening edges. Subtle rum pot aromas on the nose, then earthy notes and a touch of redcurrant and Amarena cherry. Well balanced on the palate, juicy, still needs time." Falstaff
"The Casanova di Neri 2020 Pietradonice holds an immense bouquet with generous cherry and dark fruit that shows a nicely ripened phase without feeling overtly mature. There is a sweet note that recalls high-end raspberry jelly, exotic spice, perfumed redwood, cypress and black olive. There is definitely no varietal greenness, and the wine delivers a firm and compact build that covers the whole palate." Wine Advocate

“Campo di Tenaglia” Cabernet Franc Toscana IGT 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
1,900 bottles of this 0.8 ha Cabernet Franc single vineyard "Campo di Tenaglia" (at an altitude of approx. 550m, mainly limestone) reach the specialised trade and the menus of the best restaurants worldwide. Impenetrable, dark wine with a bouquet of flint, crushed minerals and some chalk. The texture is rich and opulent, but always supple with a hint of minerality. Campo di Tenaglia is one of the juiciest Cabernet Francs we have ever had in the glass. Beautiful, long final and certainly great Storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Juicy, this red exudes black cherry, black currant, cassis and wild herb aromas and flavors. This has a light chewiness to the texture, with dusty tannins flexing their muscles on the long aftertaste. Shows superb balance and length, despite needing time to come together." Wine Spectator
"Intense ruby red, tending towards violet. Distinctly floral nose of violets and dried rose petals. Notes of wild berries, undergrowth, leather and sealing wax follow. The palate has verve, the tannin is still raw and slightly drying. Persistent, pronounced finish." Falstaff
"The Campo di Tenaglia 2020 is an intoxicating, explosive wine. The soaring Cabernet Franc aromas leave a strong first impression. Deep and layered, with plenty of intensity, the 2020 opens up wonderfully with time in the glass. Strong tannins give it energy all the way to the concentrated finish. This is a promising wine." Vinous
"The Tenuta di Trinoro 2020 Campo di Tenaglia opens with a dark and impenetrable appearance and full-bodied texture. The bouquet is absolutely packed with dark fruits, spices, smoked tobacco and mineral hints of granite or iron ore. The wine feels very young and has the texture and firmness to withstand a long ageing period." Wine Advocate

Limitation of 1 articles per customer“Campo di Magnacosta” Cabernet Franc Toscana IGT 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
Just 2,100 bottles of this 1.5 ha single vineyard Cabernet Franc "Campo di Magnacosta" (a former riverbed with mainly clay, gravel and crushed stone soil) reach the specialised trade and the menus of the best restaurants worldwide. The vines were planted in the mid-1990s and come from Pomerol. In terms of aromatic intensity, Magnacosta is probably the most sensually elegant representative of the house's three great site cabernets. It has great straightness, but somewhat less power and intensity. It subtly combines black fruit aromas with spicy notes, tar and antique leather. It is already silky and elegant and will certainly gain in finesse over the years. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Campo di Magnacosta 2020 is one of three Cabernet Francs from a single vineyard at Tenuta di Trinoro. It comes from a warm climate and has an almost milky flavour with a creamy texture accompanied by cocoa, roasted espresso beans, sweet earth and lots of extracted dark fruits. This vintage doesn't deliver the chiselled pencil flavours usually found in Cabernet Franc, but it shows plenty of richness and powdery tannins." Wine Advocate
"Single vineyard Cabernet Franc that smells beguilingly of ripe wild berries, cherries, tobacco, chocolate and spices; mouth-filling with depth, character and powerful and elegant tannins, the final then surprisingly light-footed, with great length." Vinum
"The Campo di Magnacosta 2020 is a wine with depth and gravitas. Dark cherry, lavender, spices, sage and leather fill out the layers. There's great breadth and volume here, but also a good bit of tannin that needs time to soften. I wouldn't be in a hurry. This is a particularly virile expression of Franc." Vinous
"This red shows breadth and flesh to its profile, encapsulating flavors of cherry, black currant, tapenade, mineral and wild thyme and rosemary. Offers a solid structure, with dense yet refined tannins and a lingering finish. Delivers excellent length." Wine Spectator
"Bright ruby red. The nose shows distinct spicy notes of cinnamon, blood orange, bitter orange, cloves and lots of ripe red fruit with a hint of sweet spice. The palate is rich and has soft tannins. The wine is full-bodied and finishes juicy, persistent and elegant." Falstaff

"A rich and layered cabernet sauvignon with juicy fruit and lots of currant and berry aromas, as well as hints of spices. Full-bodied and flavorful with freshness and brightness at the end." James Suckling
"The Tenuta Luce 2019 Lux Vitis opens to an inky dark appearance with pressed blackberry, sweet cinnamon and cumin. There is some oak astringency on the tannins that will relax in time. Otherwise, this is a richly textured and concentrated red wine to drink on a cold winter evening by an open fire. The wine is almost full-bodied, but it actually feels more streamlined on the close." Only a few thousand bottles of this private collection exist. Impressive, dynamic and radiant. Aromas of dark berries, cloves, menthol, tar, liquorice, herbs and grilled meat, the wood tones very restrained. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Isole e Olena 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata boasts luscious dark concentration with black fruit, grilled herb, crushed stone and sweet crème de cassis. Those bold flavors are followed by a 15% alcohol content that is gracefully integrated here. This is another long-term proposition for your cellar." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata is another stellar wine in this range from Isole e Olena and Paolo De Marchi. Still pretty tightly wound, the 2018 is going to need at least a few years to fully unwind. Dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, mocha and espresso are some of the many aromas and flavors that start to open with a bit of aeration. The Isole Cabernet has a brilliant track record of aging. I expect the 2018 will one day take its place among the very finest editions." Vinous
"Lots of blackcurrants and currant bush with some graphite and black ink on the nose. Full-bodied with a chewy and polished tannin backbone and lots of blue fruit and stones in the finish. Sandalwood and violets, too. Great structure at the end. Give this time to soften. Try after 2025, but will age for a long time." James Suckling

"Rich, deep dark ruby violet colour. Intense and compact nose, showing notes of cassis and blackberry, with mint in the background. Crisp and juicy at the attack and on the palate, equipped with dense, gripping tannins, flows for a long time, lots of pressure, dark berry fruit." Falstaff
"The organic Petrolo 2021 Valdarno di Sopra Cabernet Sauvignon Campo Lusso is characterised by a beautiful density and fullness, while retaining the elegance of the fruit. This Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon shows dark cherries, blackberries, spices, tar and camphor ash. On the palate, the wine remains light and intense, finishing with powdery tannins." Wine Advocate
"A wonderfully structured mountain Cab from the outskirts of Chianti Classico with aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, cedar and bark as well as damp forest and mushrooms. Full and multi-layered with ultra-fine tannins and a fresh and lively finish. Cabernet Sauvignon. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling
"The nose is fresh and earthy, almost primitive, with sandalwood against trodden soil, damp moss, followed by the warmth of currants and cloves. The palate is lively but poised, with mature but carefully calibrated fruit and spice. Unwavering, confident tannins that nonetheless feel welcoming, electrified by penetrating acid. This wine has always been special but with the change in label more recent vintages seem both more effortless and more sumptuous." Wine Enthusiast

“Paleo” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020 · Double MAGNUM
Paleo Rosso - unmistakable Cabernet Franc and one of Bolgheri's most important wines, full of elegance and class. The name is unspectacularly derived from a weed that has long since been removed from the vineyards of Le Macchiole. Rich ruby red colour with violet reflections. Mint, white pepper, blackberry fruit and a hint of pomegranate on the nose. Finely melting on the palate with hints of tobacco and poppy seeds. Wonderfully structured and with a long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intensely reflective ruby-purple colour. Opens on the nose with pronounced spicy notes of graphite and cedar, then black cherry, dark currants and white pepper. Grippy, gripping tannins characterise the palate, dark fruit components, with an emphatically spicy final." Falstaff
"Precise, with accents of herbs and peppers in the blackcurrant, black olive, iron and tobacco flavours. Shows subliminal vanilla and spice elements from the discreet use of new oak, which unfold with harmony and finesse on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"Lots of black berries and black olives with blackcurrants and rosemary. Full-bodied, chewy and rich with intense tannins and a long, powerful finish. Muscular and taut." James Suckling
"Its aroma is an intoxicating combination of leafy and cedar wood scents saturated with vibrant graphite minerality, citrus and liquorice depth. This is supported by huge extraction and power on the palate, with firm, oaky tannins and a graphite aftertaste of astonishing elegance." Decanter
"The Le Macchiole 2020 Paleo is one of the best Cabernet Francs in Italy. It is very dense and richly concentrated, with an amount of dark fruit that can only be broken down by slow maturation in the cellar. Paleo is always a wine for the long haul. The oak needs time to integrate and focus. Even at this young stage, the quality of the tannins and the precise ripeness of the fruit are convincing. A hint of sweet cherry, exotic spice and dark chocolate ensure a long finish." Wine Advocate
"The Paleo Rosso 2020 is noble, elegant and wonderfully polished. Crushed flowers, spices and blood orange lend it brightness. The Paleo Rosso impresses with its medium-bodied structure and offers great depth. It has performed very well in the past. I assume that this will also be the case here, as the 2020 radiates balance from start to finish. The 2020 matured for 18 months in 100% French oak and 5% of the wine was aged in amphorae." Vinous
"A firework of pepper lights up the nose, from black pepper to green peppercorns and hot chilli. Undertones of flint and leather intensify the spiciness, while flavours of raspberry jam and vanilla provide balance. On the palate, the spiciness remains, with biting, assertive acidity, but a sweetness lingers, and a finish of chilli and chocolate ties it all together. Transcendent." Wine Enthusiast

"Notes of chocolate-coated dark cherries and cassis with roasted walnut, nutmeg, cedar and spice box. Full-bodied, big and opulent with an array of ripe and compact tannins coming through. Toned acidity gives energy and juiciness to the dark fruit. Really polished and refined. Better from 2025." James Suckling
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata shows impeccable fruit ripeness and balance with a dark core of blackcurrant that is elegantly surrounded by spice and savory notes. This Cabernet Sauvignon embraces tobacco and baking chocolate. It delivers rich texture that needs a few more years in the bottle to soften. It also shows a balanced 15% alcohol that goes relatively unnoticed." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata is one of the very finest vintages of the Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon I have ever tasted, and I have had the good fortune to taste them all. Deep and unctuous, yet also full of Chianti Classico vibrancy, the Cabernet is breathtaking in its grandeur. Dark blue/purplish fruit, gravel, crushed rocks, incense, dried herbs and mocha saturate the palate. Deep and layered through to the finish, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is fantastic." Vinous

“Dedicato a Walter” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2017 · 6 bottles in OWC
Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this single-varietal Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on Via Bolgherese to their eldest brother Walter, who died in 2003. The 2015 vintage marked the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Since then, a third fewer bottles have been filled each year, resulting in a Bolgheri Superiore from their own grapes from the core zone of Bolgheri, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance and character. Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with fine tobacco notes, ripe blackcurrant aromas, some pepper and eucalyptus, plus slightly earthy tones. Dense fruit and polished tannin on the palate, clear, rich final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant ruby red. Spicy, inviting nose, delicate fumé, clear forest berries, elderberries and mint on the nose, red pepper, great herbal spice. On the palate very powerful and present, dense in attack and course, currently still very young." Falstaff
"The 2017 Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato a Walter is a plush, beguiling wine. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, cedar and dried flowers give the 2017 layers of nuance. Here, too, there seems to be a pronounced shift to a style that emphasizes greater elegance and nuance than in the past. I especially admire the persistence here. The 2017 should be a gem with a few years in bottle." Vinous
"Sweet berries and cherries with some fresh-herb undertones. Very perfumed. It’s full-bodied, yet fresh and linear, with brightness and firmness at the same time. Really linear and layered. Needs two or three years to soften. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"Laced with vanilla, cherry, floral, herbal and oak spice aromas and flavors, this elegant red is tightly wound, needing time to absorb the oak, yet beautifully balanced, lingering with fruit, spice and mineral notes on the long finish." Wine Spectator

Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this single-varietal Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on Via Bolgherese to their eldest brother Walter, who passed away in 2003. The 2015 vintage marked the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Since then, a third fewer bottles have been filled each year, resulting in a Bolgheri Superiore from the estate's own grapes from the Bolgheri core zone that is hard to beat in terms of elegance and character. Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with a fine tobacco note, ripe blackcurrant flavours, some pepper and eucalyptus, plus slightly earthy tones. Dense fruit and polished tannins on the palate, clear, rich final. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Poggio al Tesoro 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato A Walter has oak-driven aromas of popcorn and caramel on top of toasted nut, dried fruit, baked plum and baking chocolate. There is a lot going on in terms of mouthfeel and palate. Those oak-driven tones are very pleasant given the richness and the texture that this wine manages so well." Wine Advocate
"The Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato a Walter 2019 is great. Here, the extracted style works well to bring out the essence of the Cabernet Franc. Dark fruit, leather, smoke, chocolate, tobacco and cloves give the 2019 an impressive depth. Although it is very intense, the 2019 is by no means over the top. It offers great depth and intensity, with all elements very well balanced." Vinous
"The nose is a light lunch on a rocky beach, where the dusty stones contrast with the spiciness of bresaola and the richness of the sweet chilli jam. The jam spreads across the palate, but the meatiness isn't lost either, before a crackle of black pepper introduces a lingering finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Cabernet Franc in purezza, which impressively demonstrates how well the terroir is suited to this grape variety: Intriguing cherry-bitter chocolate bouquet, tinged with spicy notes; the attack is powerful, the fine-grained tannins and acidity in balance, elegant finish with plenty of fruit and noble character." Vinum
"Beautiful fruit and freshness with a brightness and energy that lifts the wine. It is medium to full-bodied with a bright and juicy palate. Blackcurrant and yellow pepper with some orange blossom. It is bright and fluid in an intriguing way. It's drinkable, but it will only get better with time." James Suckling

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso Superiore with a dark bouquet of black fruit, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. The palate is extremely full-bodied, with outstanding depth, dense structure and a firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already shows a wide range of personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fragrant bouquet with rather red fruits, cherries and wild berries, framed by balsamic notes, delicately floral, lavender. Melting and smooth on the palate with fruity and then tart notes, salty-spicy final. With maturity, 18/20 is possible." Weinwisser
"At this young stage, the wine shows a youthful primary fruit and impresses with its balance and integration of fruit and oak. Angelo Gaja and his team have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of elegance in these two grape varieties, which can often develop too much power and concentration if they are not controlled. The right timing of the harvest and the careful use of French oak are key to this overall result, especially with regard to the medium to full body and long silkiness of this age-worthy vintage." Wine Advocate
"Diverse bouquet of forest fruits, spicy macchia and balsamic notes; firm texture, the tannins extremely finely chiselled, underpinned by crisp acidity, the final opulent with plenty of juice, density and length. Also extremely successful in this vintage." Vinum
"The aromas of this wine are somewhat muted today, but the blackcurrant, blueberry, violet, cedar and wild herb flavours are expressive and well articulated. It is supported by lively acidity and a dense tannic matrix and finishes long and full of flavour." Wine Spectator
"The nose of this Bolgheri Superiore packs a punch for its lavish integration of clove, balsam, eucalyptus leaf and restrained bramble fruits. The attack is velvety, with great development of youthful, fine-grained tannins over the mid-palate, long, lifted acidity, and a toasty finish soaked with fruit. A wine with a long life ahead, a great example of a Bordeaux blend with Mediterranean identity, and one of the greatest Bolgheri tasted from Ca' Marcanda to date." Decanter
"Redcurrants, rose petals and ink, plus some fresh herbs. Medium-bodied with fine and taut tannins that give the wine focus and beauty. This wine will develop beautifully. Taste it after 2028, but it's already excellent now." James Suckling
"The Camarcanda 2020 is smooth, elegant and wonderfully expressive. Exquisite flavours and silky tannins give the Camarcanda a lot of finesse. The 2020 is deceptively medium-bodied and has a wonderful finish. Pretty floral and spicy notes open the finish effortlessly. The 2020 is without question the best Camarcanda yet. Bravo." Vinous

“Sassicaia” Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
Sassicaia 2020 is in one word: magical. Even at a young age, it shows an aromatic richness and intensity that inspires us. The optimal climate has favoured its very Mediterranean character, and so here presents a fresh and very direct wine that delights all the senses. Everything is in its place here and the omnipresent fruit gets an extra place on the podium in this vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium purple red, the bottom of the glass is clearly visible. Intense nose with a hint of iodine. Great spiciness that seems more Tuscan than Bordeaux. Long lasting with a very long finish. Embryonic but convincing that it has a bright future ahead of it. Subtle rather than showy. I wouldn't guess it was 14%. I aerated it and left it in a young wine decanter for an hour and it was a delight. It has more appeal than many previous vintages." Jancis Robinson
"The 2020 Sassicaia is a real beauty and shows great purity, elegance and silkiness. On the nose, it is a typical, noble Sassicaia with the typical liaison of Cabernet and Mediterranean spice, reminiscent of the neighbouring maquis forest. There are notes of lavender, but also Mediterranean herbs such as sage, myrrh and rosemary, refined with dark cherries, cassis, wild berries, graphite, tobacco and earth. Also in the mouth with noble restraint, the fine fruit presence is majestically underpinned by earthy and herbaceous notes, even a touch of olive tapenade resonates. Despite the present fruit, it appears fresh thanks to its penetrating acidity, with a silky texture and an elegant, grippy tannin structure. It is a seductive temptation to drink it young, but it will benefit from a few years of ageing. So patience will be rewarded with more complexity." Weinwisser
"The Tenuta San Guido 2020 Bolgheri Sassicaia appeals to those seeking a more lush, opulent and ultimately approachable wine. This vintage is an accurate reflection of coastal Tuscany, as opposed to a more generic 'Tuscan' wine from other parts of this great central Italian region. You can taste the ripeness and soft fruit weight that come from a coastal appellation with particularly bright light and warm Mediterranean breezes. Sassicaia from the cool vintages is notoriously a reticent wine in its early years, needing a long lead time before it settles into an ideal drinking window. That is definitely not the case here. This wine is beautiful and compelling from the start. It shows a beautiful blend of dark fruits, oak spice, balanced freshness, rich texture, soft tannins and a skilfully controlled alcohol level of 14%. The immediate character of the wine is what makes this vintage stand out and I wouldn't get too hung up on over-ambition for cellaring. The wine is a pure pleasure as it is, with overwhelming primary fruit and high intensity in the near and medium term." Wine Advocate
"A very fragrant Sassicaia on the nose with forest floor, citrus and dark fruits. Blackcurrants. Cedarwood and black tea. Some balsamic. Pine needles. Full and very juicy. Very long, structured and complete. Spicy and energetic with a linear line of fresh tannins and acidity. Very Sassicaia throughout. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest is Cabernet Franc. Very attractive now in a youthful and vibrant way but this will be better in three to four years. Try it after 2027." James Suckling
"The 2020 Sassicaia is a bold, rapturous wine. Dark, fleshy and expansive on the palate, the 2020 offers scents of blackberry jam, gravel, spices, new leather, liquorice and crème de cassis. The powerful tannins are almost masked by the sheer intensity of the fruit. The 2020 seems to have an added dimension of textural intensity. An intensity that is very appealing." Vinous
"Complex aromas and flavours of blackcurrants, blackberries, iron, sweet tobacco and Mediterranean herbs are the hallmarks of this elegant, exciting red wine, which already reveals a lot, yet seems restrained, as if there are still many facets to discover. It impresses with harmony, freshness and a long finish." Wine Spectator
"The frost damaged the earlier developing Cabernet Franc at the end of March, resulting in lower production but excellent quality fruit. The spring was mild and the summer generally warm, but a rapid acceleration of ripening in late summer forced the team to start harvesting in the first week of September to avoid over-ripening. This traditional blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc features an intense and balsamic flavour that brings out the character of blackcurrants, dust, leaves and cedar. It is balanced and light on its feet, with super-fresh acidity and a fine-grained, almost imperceptible tannin structure. Ripe and tangy raspberry and blueberry fruit linger on the mid palate, leading to a long, fresh finish with notes of cream and chocolate. This wine will reward ageing into the 2050s, but it will also provide much pleasure in its youth. We recommend storing it in the bottle for at least 10 months before opening it," says Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta." Decanter
"An - after aeration - increasingly promising bouquet of wild berries, with subtle hints of Mediterranean maquis and truffles; perfectly chiselled texture with youthful, tightly meshed tannins, the acidity provides that certain extra, in the persistent multi-faceted finish lots of fruit, but also spice. Timelessly elegant." Vinum
"Ruby red colour, compact and brilliant. The nose has clear notes of blackberries, with slightly wild notes of marjoram, floral nuances of peony and an iodine-balsamic finish. In the mouth crisp red fruits, tannins that combine well with the fresh-salty component, balsamic and liquorice on the finish, excellent drinkability. A wine that will last a long time." Luca Gardini
