1976: A young man called Gordon Sumner sits in a small flat in Newcastle, with no money, no prospects, nothing but an acoustic guitar and a dream. He writes a song about the magic that emanates from a woman – about those small gestures that enchant the everyday. When he later plays the song to his future bandmates, they wave it off: too soft, too gentle for the rough punk sound that London is currently celebrating. The song goes into the drawer. Five years later, when The Police had long since become global stars, they brought it out again. "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" becomes a number one hit in four countries and wins the Ivor Novello Award.

What Gordon Sumner couldn't have known at the time: He would not meet the woman to whom this song was actually dedicated until years later. Trudie Styler came into his life in 1982 – and stayed. Over four decades later, on a Tuscan vineyard south of Florence, this love has long since taken root. "He's my best friend as well as my beloved," says Trudie today. Sting counters with feigned sobs. It's been like that between the two of them for over 400 years, as he jokes from time to time. The fact that this song now adorns a sparkling wine is much more than a profane marketing calculation. The label bears a youthful portrait of Trudie – the face that Sting probably had in mind when he wrote the chorus, even if he didn't know her at the time. The wine itself is pure Sangiovese, cultivated biodynamically on the hills of Figline Valdarno, sparkling with 30 months of bottle fermentation. A delicate salmon pink colour in the glass with a fine, persistent perlage. Aromas of wild strawberries and raspberries emerge with a hint of citrus zest. On the palate, the lively freshness that Trudie loves so much – she drinks white wine and champagne, while Sting goes for "contemplative reds" in the evening. A spumante that captures the lightness of a summer evening on the terrace of Il Palagio, under the old oak tree, with a view of vineyards and olive groves.
