With this single-vineyard Sangiovese, the Mazzei family pursues no less a goal than to make the best wine in the Chianti Classico appellation. Ipsus ferments very traditionally for three weeks on the skins and matures 50% in new tonneaux and 50% in stainless steel as well as eight months in cement barrels. On the palate, the 2019 vintage is denser than many other Chianti Classico and it is very grippy in the process, with its pure, blood orange-infused, lush red fruits on the characterful finish. After many years of identifying the best Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot parcels within the boundaries of their Bolgheri estate with the support of the famous OenologistMichel Rolland, the Antinori family discovered in the early 2000s that in the midst of this microclimate and terroir there was an even more special small vineyard whose results once again surpassed those of the larger area. It was immediately clear to all involved that this unique character had to be vinified and highlighted separately - this was the birth of today's cult wine Lodovico.

Of all his wines, the flagship Tenuta di Trinoro offers the deepest insight into Andrea Franchetti's viticulture. Andrea changes the proprietary blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from limestone and clay soils every year depending on the quality and quantity of the harvest. The grapes are always the best of the vintage. Franchetti's own style is recognisable in each of his wines and with each vintage. The 2020 vintage was the first to be given an additional year of bottle ageing before being released for sale.

This dark, full and concentrated red wine already shows a good deal of its potential on the nose and the ripe, fruit-driven appeal that has characterised it for years and helped it achieve world fame. On the palate, the flavours range from deep, dark fruit to spices, mahogany and grilled herbs. The texture is tapered, well-proportioned and ethereal. This is the first vintage in which 100% of malolactic fermentation took place in cask rather than in French oak barrique. It is also the finest vintage of the Villero I have ever tasted, and I say that with my often stated view that, at least in the past, the Riserva has never been the best wine in the Vietti range. In 1991, Turriga was one of the first bottled wines ever exported from the island. Turriga has a 100% Sardinian soul - the famous blend of the four autochthonous grape varieties Cannonau, Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera was once created by the famous OenologistGiacomo Tachis and is continued today by his "heir" Mariano Murru, technical director and Oenologist Argiolas. The DNA of this exceptional wine sounds as simple as it is perfect: the Cannonau base gives structure, the Carignano the roundness and fullness, the Bovale the richness of the fruit and the Malvasia provides the well-balanced portion of tannins.

Mariano goes into raptures and describes his top wine as follows: "It has a deep ruby colour and an enveloping taste of almost spherical softness, with tannins of great finesse that support and accompany the drink. The lively fruit is supported by a balanced acidity and spice that refreshes the palate and prolongs an indescribable finish of rare elegance."
