    Vernatsch is one of the lightest and most delicate red wine varieties in the world – and its historic home is St. Magdalena, right next to Bolzano. The steep slopes there lie at altitudes of between 250 and 350 metres, facing south-southeast, in a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The 50- to 80-year-old vines are rooted in gravelly, well-aerated porphyry soils. Nals Margreid looks back on a long history: the Campi estate was established in 1764; the Nals Winery was founded in 1932; and in 1985 it merged with the Margreid Winery. For the Galea, the grapes are harvested by hand. After destemming, the must ferments in steel tanks with gentle stirring, followed by malolactic fermentation and seven months' ageing in 40-hectolitre wooden barrels.

    A bright ruby red. The bouquet offers notes of strawberries and raspberries, with spicy and subtle hints of almond. On the palate, it is fresh, fruity and well-rounded, with a velvety finish. SUPERIORE.DE
