In the gently undulating hills of Contessa Entellina in western Sicily, where Mediterranean winds meet calcareous clay soils, a Chardonnay with an unmistakable island character is produced year after year: La Fuga. The vines grow at medium altitudes between 200 and 600 metres above sea level, benefit from strong temperature differences between day and night and develop an expressive spectrum of aromas – far removed from the opulent style of many international representatives of the variety.

La Fuga shines in the glass in light straw yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet is multi-faceted: white peaches, yellow melon, orange blossom and a hint of vanilla, accompanied by a mineral freshness reminiscent of damp chalk. On the palate, the wine is creamy and at the same time tightly structured, with lively acidity, a smooth texture and a balanced, salty final. Not a loud Chardonnay, but a finely articulated white wine that combines the elegance of the grape variety with the uniqueness of Sicily. La Fuga stands for a "silent escape" – away from stereotypes and towards character and origin. A great accompaniment to fried fish, scallops, Sicilian pasta or risotto with saffron.
