A rosato with an island identity – clear, fresh and imbued with Mediterranean vigour. Tre Torri is made from 100% Carignano grapes, cultivated in the limestone and clay-rich vineyards of the lower Sulcis. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo extraction with a few hours of maceration at low temperature before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. This reduced vinification preserves freshness and terroir without distraction. A seductive cherry pink colour with a ruby red hue in the glass. The nose opens with delicate fruitiness: redcurrant, strawberry and red cherry, delicately surrounded by rose petals and a slightly spicy herbal note. Fresh, juicy and charming on the palate – with clear fruit and crisp acidity, which gives the wine a lively tension. The gentle finish is elegant, almost salty and delicate. SUPERIORE.DE

Named after an iron-rich cave in the region, this wine symbolises what characterises the Sulcis in southern Sardinia: rough, warm, mineral and yet full of charm – and yet full of charm. The Carignano grapes come from old vines rooted in the calcareous, clayey-sandy soils around Santadi. The Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights promotes ripeness and freshness in equal measure. After temperature-controlled fermentation and completed malolactic fermentation, the wine matures traditionally in cement tanks.

The name sounds familiar, but Araja opens a new chapter in Sardinian red wine culture: a fruity, focussed expression of Sulcis. The cuvée consists of 85% Carignano and 15% Sangiovese (!) and is produced on the red, sandy soils around the coastal area of Porto Pino. Here, the salty sea air characterises the grapes, while the chalky terraces provide structure. After careful fermentation, the wine matures in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve its expressiveness.

Rocca Rubia is an archetypal Carignano del Sulcis – powerful, Mediterranean and at the same time of astonishing elegance. The grapes come from old, partly ungrafted vines in the sandy, coastal vineyards of the lower Sulcis region in south-west Sardinia. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and the wine was matured for around 10 months in French oak barriques with a successful balance of wood character and fruit expression.

Smooth extraction, controlled fermentation and around one year of ageing in French barriques – this creates a dense texture without losing its freshness. Deep ruby colour with a violet sheen in the glass. The nose opens with intense, ripe aromas: blackcurrant, ripe plum and fine jam notes, accompanied by balsamic herbs, liquorice and a hint of aromatic spice. The wine remains warm and juicy on the palate, with velvety tannins and a harmonious flow. The fruit is dense, the acidity provides balance – and the mineral note carries the long, spicy finish into the memory. Is Solinas is powerful, but never loud. The name Shardana refers to a mysterious, seafaring people of the Bronze Age, described by historians as part of the legendary Sea Peoples. Many assume that the Shardana originated from Sardinia – or at least settled here – before they became famous in the Mediterranean as fearless warriors and skilful navigators. Their symbols – horned helmets, round shields, depictions of ships – can still be found today in nuraghi and ancient inscriptions. With the name Shardana, Cantina Santadi builds a bridge from the past to the present. The wine symbolises the island's ancient, proud identity: unshakeable, powerful, full of character. It is no coincidence that the Carignano – a grape variety with deep roots in the south of the island – takes centre stage here. Like the Shardana itself, this wine defies time and fashion, remains true to itself and tells a story of origin, resistance and pride.

Carignano, the Sardinian elemental force
Carignano is the red DNA of south-west Sardinia. Its first written mention dates back to the 14th century, but archaeological finds point to an even older origin. Aragonese sailors probably brought the vine to the island in the Middle Ages, where it took root in the windy coastal areas and adapted perfectly to the dry climate. For a long time, Carignano was considered an uncomplicated country wine. It is only since the 1980s that a new generation of winegrowers has shown the quality of old bush vines and strict selection.
Terroir between sea and sand
Its stronghold is the Sulcis in the far south-west. Vines up to eighty years old grow there in sandy soil, protected from phylloxera and caressed by salty Mediterranean breezes. These unique conditions give the wine an unmistakable minerality and astonishing elegance. Smaller islands such as Sant'Antioco and San Pietro contribute cooler flavours, while isolated plots in Ogliastra produce more rustic, powerful versions. On the mainland, Carignano can only be found sporadically in Liguria and in some blends from Puglia, but no region reaches the depth of the Sardinian original.
Style, synonyms, masterpieces
In the glass, Carignano is deep ruby red in colour with violet hues. The nose reveals ripe blackberries, black cherry, myrtle, liquorice and often a hint of roasted rosemary. On the palate, the tannins are silky, the acidity is moderate and the texture velvety, making the wine surprisingly accessible despite its power. Internationally, Carignano is known as Carignan, Carignane, Mazuelo or Garnacha Tinta; in Sardinia, the old term Bovale Grande is still sometimes used. The leading producers include Santadi with the much-praised "Terre Brune" and Antonio Argiolas. Today, all producers work with lower yields in order to give the Carignano its impressive depth and finesse.
Perfect for Mediterranean cuisine
Carignano loves dishes with a strong flavour. Grilled lamb with herbs, wild boar, pecorino sardo, braised aubergines or fregola with bottarga emphasise its Mediterranean flavour. The ideal serving temperature is sixteen to eighteen degrees Celsius. Young wines benefit from brief aeration, while mature Riserva bottlings develop their full bouquet after an hour in the Decanter. Antonello Pilloni, President of Cantina Santadi, describes Carignano as follows: "The Carignano thrives on wind and salt. It shows stoic strength in the vineyard and poetic depth in the glass."
