Wine Solidarity. The term was coined by Elio Altare and six of his colleagues from the Langhe themselves in 1997, when they turned an idea into a structure that continues to function to this day. The seven founders – Altare, Giovanni Corino, Federico Grasso, the Revello brothers and Mauro Veglio from La Morra, Gianfranco Alessandria from Monforte d’Alba, and La Morandina from Castiglione Tinella – formed a pact: each would produce their own wine under the shared name L’Insieme, up to 5,000 bottles per year. And each would pay 5 euros per bottle produced into the shared fund. Not per bottle sold – per bottle produced.

So the commitment begins right down in the cellar. Over the years, the fund has supported: missions in poor countries, educational projects, the restoration of cultural artefacts, cultural work and agricultural initiatives. A scientific committee comprising journalists and researchers decides each year which projects will receive funding. The charter is clear: no profit motive. Altare's version of L’Insieme is made from red grapes – local and international varieties; the blend is his own choice, his commentary on the respective vintage. No DOC, no vintage on the label: senza annata. This wine seeks no classification. It seeks only the best quality, because the proceeds matter. Just 800 bottles. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French barriques.

An intense red. The bouquet is broad and rounded, with herbal and vegetal notes, spices and ripe fruit. On the palate, it has great structure and a bold character, yet remains harmonious, with a long, robust finish. A wine that knows exactly what it’s made for. SUPERIORE.DE
