The historic Guerrieri Rizzardi winery is the result of the merger of two noble Veronese families: the Counts Guerrieri, owners of a centuries-old estate with vineyards and cellars in Bardolino and the Counts Rizzardi, who bought back their vineyards in Negrar in the Valpolicella area in the middle of the 17th century and then had the historic cellar of Pojega built. The first Rizzardi bottles were produced in 1678. In 1970, Guerrieri Rizzardi acquired an estate in Costeggiolo, Soave. Nowadays the Guerrieri Rizzardi is the only wine producer in Veneto to have the best locations in the three well-known Veronese Classico wine regions. The traditional winery, which has recently been able to increase its high-quality standards at an ever-faster pace, also owns a small estate with vineyards in Dolcè in Valdadige. The first label, Guerrieri Rizzardi, dates back to 1914. Today the company is owned by the Rizzardi family.
The grapes used for the wines of the Rizzardi wines in Valpolicella, Bardolino and Soave come exclusively from their own vineyards, cultivated with great care and vigilance and planted with local grape varieties but also international grapes where suited. The yield per hectare is significantly lower than the maximum quantity laid down by law for the respective cultivation area. Only natural compost is used to fertilise the vines.
As the very old cellar in the centre of Bardolino near Lake Garda had become too small, a new cellar for Lake Garda wines was inaugurated in 2011 on a hill above the town. It meets all the requirements of modern production and logistics as well as being solar powered. On the one hand, the processing of the grapes is less complicated there. On the other hand, individual processes can be controlled even more carefully than before at the second location. The Negrar site remains the centre for the production of Valpolicella. The wines of Soave are vinified in the Costeggiole cellar. In the old and new cellars, under the supervision of oenologist Giuseppe Rizzardi, elegant wines with a strong character and a high identity of origin are created.
Guerrieri Rizzardi has received many awards from renowned wine critics. Since 2015 the winery has been a member of the "Amarone Families" – a group of 13 producers dedicated to protect the integrity of Amarone, one of Italy's best-known red wines, as a precious, exclusive brand and to promote its image and sales on the international markets.
