Pinot Bianco reveals its aristocratic side at the high altitude of the "Zuc di Volpe". The privileged single vineyard site near Togliano offers ideal conditions for this elegant grape variety: cool nights, calcareous soils and excellent aeration, which allows for slow, balanced ripening. The 2021 vintage was characterised by moderate temperatures and a stable late summer, which led to perfect physiological ripeness and excellent freshness. The ageing in stainless steel tanks with extended maturation on the fine lees preserves the clear fruit while adding depth and structure. The nose reveals aromas of white peach, pear and a hint of camomile, underpinned by a fine nutty note. Finely crafted and precise on the palate, with a creamy texture, firm minerality and a long, balanced finish.

Roberto Giannelli was a real estate agent. A Florentine who had little to do with Brunello – until someone offered him an estate for sale in the east of Montalcino in 2003. He drove there, saw the vineyards, the old walls, the view over the hills. And bought it. This is how the best wine stories sometimes begin: not with a plan, but with a feeling. Today, San Filippo is one of the most reliable houses in the entire Brunello region – organic since 2013, with the Le Lucère-Brunello, which James Suckling once gave a full 100 points.

Light garnet colour with a ruby red core. Red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate on the nose, along with violet, rose petal, a hint of blood orange and fine spice nuances on a cool, stony-mineral foundation. Silky and taut at the same time on the palate: the fruit is crystal clear, carried by lively, straight acidity and fine-grained, grippy tannins. The wood ageing remains discreetly in the background as a textural finesse, the final is long, cool and salty-mineral. With his flagship Poggio al Lupo from the Magliano winery of the same name, Antonio Moretti has created an extremely varietal Cabernet Sauvignon. Its full bouquet of red fruits and spices is already delicious. On the palate, there is a lot of pressure and an equally generous variety of aromas of blackberries, dried cherries and young leather. Enveloped by a finely woven tannin, this typical Maremma wine goes gently and long into a very attractive finish. SUPERIORE.DE

The grapes come exclusively from the legendary Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, whose limestone and clay soils give the Dolcetto a rare depth. Medium ruby red colour with a violet core. Dark cherry, ripe blackberry and a hint of blueberry on the nose, with fine notes of violets, liquorice and a hint of almonds. Noticeable structure on the palate, ripe, well-integrated acidity and fine-grained tannins that give the wine length and contour. A classic of the region with a growing reputation: Donna Lisa comes from the best Negroamaro parcels around Salice Salentino. The 2017 vintage was warm and demanding, but it produced robust harvestwith concentration and depth. Matured in barriques and then in the bottle, finely balancing structure and elegance. Deep ruby red in the glass with a garnet-red rim. The bouquet is ripe, complex and spicy: black cherries, dates, dried plums, mocha, liquorice and a hint of vanilla. Dense and round on the palate, with supple tannins, well-integrated freshness and a long, balsamic final. A serious Riserva with charisma and regional soul - powerful, mature but not tired. Deep ruby red colour, as expected from a good traditionally and organically produced wine. A wonderful, elegant and open-hearted aroma spectrum between sour cherry and nutmeg. Clear and savoury on the palate, beautifully balanced and with plenty of youthful freshness and minerality on the long finish. This medium-bodied Riserva is already drinking well today, but also has enough energy to develop positively in the bottle for at least a handful of years. SUPERIORE.DE

Mimmo is a triumvirate of the wonderful autochthonous grape varieties Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Croatina from vines up to 100 years old on Montalbano and Santuario porphyry soils at an altitude of 500 metres. The Nebbiolo parcels come from the same vineyards as the cult wine Boca and are harvested and processed according to the same quality principles. The division between Boca and Mimmo is made by tasting after two years of ageing in large wooden barrels.

Le Difese is the freshest and most accessible of the three wines from Tenuta San Guido. For us, it is one of the most beautiful price-quality wonders of Tuscany. Magnificent, sweetly perfumed fruit aromas in the opulent bouquet, equally generous and broad in the long-lasting flavour of dark cherries, wild strawberries and tangy rosehips. Furggl is a field name that burns itself into the memory. In the municipality of Auer, in the heart of the South Tyrolean lowlands, this single vineyard is situated on alluvial soils of limestone and porphyry gravel, interspersed with sand and clay. A terroir that offers the late-ripening Lagrein exactly what it needs: Warmth, depth and the soil moisture that ensures an even supply even in dry years. The vines, grafted onto low-growing rootstock and trained using the Guyot system, produce concentrated yields of just 45 hectolitres per hectare. After manual harvesting at the beginning of October, the destemmed grapes undergo a one-day cold maceration before fermentation at 28–30 °C for ten days. Regular pumping over and gentle submersion keep the must in contact with the skins – this allows colour and fruit flavours to migrate into the heart of the wine. After two gentle racking, the long maturation process begins: 12 months in French barriques, followed by 6 months in stainless steel, then a further 6 months in the bottle. Only after 24 months of total maturation does this wine reach the customer – ready to drink, but with potential for a decade or more.

In the dizzying heights of Lamole, one of the highest appellations in Chianti Classico, the Sangiovese grapes for this exceptional Riserva grow at 470 to 655 metres. The historic terraces of local Macigno del Chianti – the characteristic sandstone that stores the sun's heat during the day and releases it again at night – create a unique microclimate for this organically certified wine. Lareale combines grapes from two of Lamole's best vineyards: "Il Prato" and "Le Masse". 95 per cent Sangiovese, supplemented by five per cent Canaiolo Nero, produce a Chianti Classico of remarkable elegance and oysteriness after optical berry selection and two weeks of maceration. Maturation in oak barrels for over two years gives the wine additional complexity and structure.

Light ruby colour. Rich bouquet of red cherry, strawberry, chocolate and violet. Generous and lively on the palate of rhubarb, strawberry cake and sour cherry, the fruit is beautifully concentrated and full. The nobly knitted tannin structure leads this multi-layered and very serious Sangiovese into a charming, mineral finish. Pale straw yellow in the glass with a shiny lustre and lively, fine perlage. The nose offers delicate aromas of white peach, delicate apple foam and a hint of fruit blossom. On the palate, it is clear, dry and minerally fresh - characterised by tangy fruit and stimulating acidity, with the varietal purity of Verdicchio, which is also a perfect grape variety for high-quality sparkling wines. As a Pas Dosé sparkling wine, it presents itself in a consistently mineral style without any creaminess or dosage weight - an impressive, modern, purist expression of the grape variety and one of the best and most precise sparkling wines of the terroir every year. "Oudeis" has its origins in the Greek name "Odysseus" and means "nobody". And indeed, no one but the outstanding terroir of the Alta Langa is responsible for the complexity of Enrico Serafino's sparkling wines.

A great Trebbiano with high standards: this Superiore from the traditional Castello di Semivicoli winery combines freshness with a fine texture and surprising depth. The 2020 vintage shines with its ideal ripening process: cool nights, warm days - excellent conditions for structure and aromatic clarity. After organic manual harvesting, the wine fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, followed by several months of ageing on the fine lees to better integrate the flavours. No ageing in wood!

The pioneer of Riesling on Italian soil is Aldo Vajra. Already fascinated by the variety as a student, he planted the first vines of the White Riesling variety in the Langa. Very light yellow-green in colour when young, developing into a strong straw yellow. The flavours of the noble Pètracine also take a varied course. Starting with peach and apricot, delicate floral and citrus notes follow in the middle, while minerality takes centre stage as the wine matures. The new red from Zisola is a 100% Syrah in radiant ruby violet. Spicy bouquet with notes of black cherry, cassis, undergrowth and foliage. Juicy, engaging and balsamic on the palate, with prominent tannins and interesting acidity. Subtle hints of cocoa and smoked bacon on the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

This Barbera comes from old vines from the lower plots of the top vineyards Mosconi (approx. 55 years old vines) and Gabutti and Ravera (each approx. 15 years old) in Monforte and Serralunga d'Alba. The terroir mix of calcareous clay soils forms a sample of lively minerality and elegant balance. The bouquet is aromatically rich and clear at the same time: fresh mulberry, sweet plum, violet and hints of sweet herbs spread across the palate. The pure fruit is refined by subtly integrated wood notes – matured for around 12 months in used barriques – as stipulated by the "Superiore" rules.

With Kyè, Vajra has not only recognised the potential of the Freisa grape, but redefined it. The freshness of the grape variety is somewhat reminiscent of Barbera and has a similar structure to the Nebbiolo grape. An explosive wine with dark fruits, violets, minerals, menthol and spices. Insanely beautiful and multi-dimensional, the fruit remains primary and the tannins are firm. Elegance all along the line and at the same time completely Freisa, only without the old-fashioned rusticity of this indigenous variety. SUPERIORE.DE

Beautiful Malvasia with a lot of varietal expression and an impressive potpourri of flavours. Jasmine, pear and white peach develop in the glass, with hints of passion fruit, spices and lime on the palate. Soft texture, very good structure and a complexity that opens up new facets with every sip. The finish is deep and long and, as always, the long yeast ageing time ensures promising ageing potential.
