Grappa di Fontalloro Riserva 2016
This artisan grappa rarity from Felsina is made from the finest Sangiovese grape marc from the legendary Fontalloro. The fresh, carefully selected vinacce are distilled using traditional steam distillation in a discontinuous copper alambic (pot still) – a centuries-old art that allows the highest concentration while retaining elegance. After careful distillation, the grappa matures for years in oak barrels, using natural decantation without refrigeration or mechanical filtration. This patient ageing process respects the balances that develop during the long resting period in barrels – a sign of true mastery.

The great rise of the Fattoria di Fèlsina began in 1966, when the shipowner Domenico Poggiali from Ravenna acquired the beautiful estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the Chianti Classico region. The new owner immediately began to study the vineyards on the estate's total area of around 400 hectares in detail. He also built underground cellars that could withstand high temperature fluctuations. Poggiali's son-in-law Giuseppe Mazzocolin then achieved the really big breakthrough. The reduction of grape yields in the vineyard, new training systems, a later harvest - combined with a higher ripeness of the grapes - were the most important innovations.
In 1983, the Fattoria di Fèlsina decided to produce wines as close to nature as possible in the future. Even today, a high level of biodiversity in the vineyards is more important to Mazzocolin than the size of the harvest in order to protect the vineyards from pests as much as possible. The estate owner also implemented the suggestions of OenologistFranco Bernabei. He had advised selecting the best, healthiest and hardiest Sangiovese vines in the eleven vineyards of Fèlsina and using them for targeted field selection. This example is proof that the close connection between the grape variety and the terroir is a very important component of Fèlsina's wines.
At least in the Chianti Classico region, Mazzocolin rejects the blending of Sangiovese with international varieties. The winery achieved world fame with the single-varietal crus Vigneto Rancia and the Super Tuscan Fontalloro, both of which premiered in 1983. Fèlsina's products are harmoniously woven into a web of terroir, history and cultural references. They are produced with great expertise and care. Fattoria di Fèlsina is therefore recognised as one of the ten most successful wine producers in Italy in the eternal list of the best at Gambero Rosso. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fèlsina is one of Tuscany's cult labels. The pure-toned wines, which know little of modern, short-lived fashions, shine with elegance and personality." Gambero Rosso
