Brunello is not a wine for the impatient. Four years of aging are required, and five for the Riserva. No other dry wine in Italy requires so much time before it even comes onto the market. So when a Brunello appears, it has already passed its most important test: patience.
Now this special phase in the Brunello lover's calendar begins again. The first Brunello Annata 2021 and Riserva 2020 have arrived and impressively demonstrate why Montalcino is one of the great wine regions of the world.
The 2021 vintage bears the hallmarks of a classic Brunello year. Late frost reduced yields in many places, but a warm, balanced summer and cool nights in September provided ideal conditions for Sangiovese. The wines display bright fruit, precise structure, and finely polished tannins. Elegance and energy are at the forefront. Many are already fascinatingly accessible, but at the same time have the potential for long aging.
The 2020 Riserva tells a different, equally exciting story. A warm year that found balance thanks to timely rainfall and cool nights. The wines are aromatically deep, supple, and harmonious. Less monumental than some legendary Riserva vintages, but with an elegance that immediately inspires enthusiasm.
Two vintages, two characters, yet the same core: Montalcino once again confirms its exceptional position in Italian viticulture. The first bottlings from houses such as Il Marroneto, Poggio di Sotto, Uccelliera, Talenti, San Filippo, and Le Potazzine have already arrived and offer a promising preview.
And this is just the beginning. In the coming weeks, numerous other Brunello 2021 and Riserva 2020 wines from the best vineyards around Montalcino will follow.
Discover now: The first Brunello 2021 and Riserva 2020 wines are already available in the shop. And because Montalcino has even more to offer, this selection will continue to grow. Enjoy! SUPERIORE.DE
