Viticulture since 26 generations - Marchesi Antinori is a dynasty rich in tradition in Italy. Founded by Giovanni di Pierro Antinori in the Middle Ages, this very successful Florentine trading house has shaped the country's viticulture like no other. The family's spirit of innovation led to the creation of numerous vineyards in Tuscany and Umbria, as well as other noteworthy projects of impressive dimensions at home and abroad. But despite many activities in other cultivation zones, Chianti remains the trademark of the famous winery. This is the Chianti Classico Riserva "Marchesi Antinori" one of the most important wines of the noble family and always one of the best wines in the region. And the "Villa Antinori" embodies the whole Tuscan joie de vivre.
New interpretations of Chianti were always under the sign of Antinori's successful further development of Tuscan wine. It was also thanks to the curiosity of the family that the famous cult wines Tignanello and Solaia were created in the 1970s. The current Spiritus Rector and coordinator, Piero Antinori, rebelled against Italian wine law by creating the Tignanello, the completely new genus of the Supertoscans, and for the first time abandoned white grape varieties. For this the brilliant and prudent entrepreneur used Cabernet additives and expanded Sangiovese in barriques for the first time. Solaia, which grows in a small individual vineyard of the Santa Christina winery, is still one of Italy's most coveted and expensive noble wines. Every year, both icons are contenders for the best fine wines in the country.
The success of the Antinori family and their wines seems to know no bounds. In the course of history, numerous experiments on the estates have also contributed to this: For example, research was conducted on clones of international and local grape varieties, the location of the vineyards, but also on the age and volume of the barrels. But the Marchese does not want to rest on the laurels of the past. In his opinion, the enormous potential of the vineyards in terms of their own Tuscan taste is still not fully exploited. "Without Antinori, Italian wine would not have its prestige today, there is nothing to shake about it. In the mid-1980s, the clear concepts in sales and production triggered an ecological renaissance in Italy and finally consolidated the leading role of the house, which despite its industrial dimension has retained its family character."Gambero Rosso 2012
