Il Poggione Winery has mastered all the wine crises thanks to its excellent quality wines and an effective distribution structure without any wounds. It has also contributed significantly to the worldwide recognition and recognition of Brunello. The traditional winery was one of the first to make this excellent wine available to a larger circle of buyers through a moderate price policy. It was above all the well-known and now deceased winemaker Dr. Pier Luigi Talenti who, with great skill, helped Tenuta Il Poggione to its present top position.
The origins of the winery in the hamlet of Sant'Angelo near Colle, one of the oldest producers in Tuscany, date back to 1630. It was acquired in 1890 by the Florentine Lavinio Franceschi family. Today, more than 120 years later, the winery is managed by the heirs Leopoldo and Livia Franceschi. In their work, both can draw on a wealth of family oenological experience. The director is the dynamic Fabrizio Bindocci, since 2012 also president of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino.
In addition to 123 hectares of vines, olives and cereals also thrive in the wooded farm. The graceful historic vineyards show very well the development of the vine culture of many decades. The grapes thrive at different altitudes. The medium-heavy soils have considerable skeletal components and are of very high quality. The areas reserved for Brunello and planted with Sangiovese reach heights between 150 and 400 metres.
The wines of Tenuta Il Poggione mature in a magnificent cellar complex newly created in 2004, partly in oak barrels at depths of up to five metres. The Franceschi family also demonstrates its close connection with Montalcino's tradition in the vinification process. The modern preparation plants meet the highest demands. An important part of the new cellar is also a high-performance oil mill. SUPERIORE.DE
