“Insolia” Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT 2025
Sicily at altitude. The Insolia vines of Cusumano grow in the hills near Salemi and Monreale – with south-easterly exposure, slow ripening and pure mountain air. No drama, no feat of strength: the high altitude does the work. Hand-picked at the beginning of September, twelve hours of cold maceration at 8°C, gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation at 18–20°C, four months on the fine lees in steel. Straw yellow colour, hawthorn, citrus peel, a hint of exotic fruit – fresh, delicate, with pleasant acidity and a light salty-mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

In 1984, Count Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita wanted to celebrate his golden wedding anniversary with his wife Franca by creating a wine that told the family story and the history of the Tenuta at the same time. The uniqueness of the grape composition shows his romantic spirit: Inzolia and Sauvignon from the Tasca selection, the selection of a vineyard in Regaleali that dates back to the end of the First World War. The use of selected yeasts from the estate's own vineyards links this wine even more inextricably with the terroir from which it comes. Fresh in its youth, the wine is unexpectedly ageable and balances its tertiary aromas with the intensity of the fruit.

When you know the crazy obsession with which Bibi Graetz pursues viticulture on the island of Giglio, you no longer have to wonder about the terrificand highly personalised results that Bibi has been bottling for years. This was preceded by several years of experimentation, research and a lot of hard work until the best of the over 100-year-old Ansonica vines in the rocky Serrone vineyard were finally identified. harvest is carried out exclusively by hand and each grape is meticulously selected according to quality and ripeness, which then finds its way to the wine cellar on the island. After destemming and gentle pressing under dry ice, the grapes are left to macerate for 48 hours at a low temperature before being transferred unfiltered to 225-litre barriques for fermentation, where the wine then matures for a further 12 months.

Ansonica: Pure Mediterranean freshness!
Ansonica is one of the oldest white grape varieties in southern Italy. Its roots go back a long way and it is thought to have spread along the coastal paths of the Mediterranean. In Tuscany, the grape variety is particularly traditional on the island of Giglio, where it has been cultivated for centuries on terraced vineyards that slope steeply into the sea. In Sicily, on the other hand, Ansonica, usually known there as Inzolia, is an integral part of the regional wine culture. It is characterised by a balance of Mediterranean richness and salty freshness that reflects its proximity to the sea.
Genuine. Multi-layered. Unadulterated.
The grape variety has different names depending on the region: Inzolia or Insolia in Sicily, Ansonica in Tuscany. These synonyms not only stand for different names, but also for independent styles. While the Inzolia in Sicily is often vinified as part of cuvées, for example for Marsala, the Ansonica from Giglio often shows a clearer, more mineral signature. In both cases, the aroma profile is characterised by a fine herbal spiciness, accompanied by citrus notes and a nutty undertone. Ansonica can be vinified fresh and light-footed, with floral accents and delicate fruit, but it can also develop depth and structure when matured on the fine lees or in wood.
A wine that makes dishes shine
Ansonica is predestined for Mediterranean cuisine. Its salty freshness makes it the ideal partner for fish dishes, seafood and pasta with light sauces. It also unfolds its qualities with poultry, goat's cheese or stir-fried vegetables. The recommended drinking temperature is 10 to 12 degrees Celsius to allow both the freshness and aromatic depth to unfold. Ansonica is particularly beautiful at outdoor summer parties or as an elegant accompaniment to a fish menu by the sea. On Giglio, people like to tell the story that the vineyard seems to run right into the sea and that you can taste the salty wind in your glass. A winemaker once put it in a nutshell: "Ansonica is not just a wine, it is a piece of the island." There could hardly be a more apt description of how strongly this grape variety is linked to its landscape.
