Prologue: Querciabella, based on the Ruffoli hill near Greve in Chianti Classico, has been one of the most respected biodynamic wine producers in Tuscany for many years. Querciabella combines sustainable agriculture with the highest level of wine enjoyment. Manfred Ing, who was born and raised in South Africa, works alongside owner Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni in the vineyard and cellar. The quality-obsessed makers even refrain from using blue copper and sulphur, which is permitted in organic viticulture.
And now curtain up for "Ardalico": Named after a character from the epic novel Orlando Furioso, the new entry-level Chianti Classico from one of the most important wineries in the appellation impresses with an invigorating balance of fresh sour cherry and cherry flavours, ripe red berry fruit with fig notes, delicate smokiness, harmonious herbal and floral accents and a beautiful tannin core.
Giorgio Fraciacomo, Export Director at Querciabella for 14 years, introduces us to the new wine in a short, humorous video message today. Giorgio was born in Trieste and spent over two decades in Sydney, where his passion for wine was awakened at a young age through family influences. At university, he became involved as president of the Sydney University Wine Appreciation Society, laying the foundations for his later career. After working as a professional sommelier, wine salesman and exporter for renowned wineries in Piedmont and Veneto, he came across Querciabella - a winery that shares his values of sustainability, quality and ethical cultivation - as part of his WSET diploma thesis on biodynamic wines.
