The Riecine vineyard in Gaiole in Chianti has a history dating back to the 11th century. Today's vineyards grow between 430 and 600 metres above sea level on stony, alluvial limestone soils over a subsoil of pure limestone - rock that was once washed here from the Monterossi hill by the ancient Massellone river (once called "Clante", the origin of the name "Chianti"). Since 2006, La Gioia has been a pure Sangiovese, a decision that perfectly reflects the philosophy of the estate: absolute concentration on the noblest of all Tuscan grape varieties.

Intense ruby red colour with elegant garnet reflections. Intense notes of blood orange and dark cherries on the nose, merging with the characteristic violet flavours of Sangiovese. This is overlaid with wild herbal aromas, hints of wild rosemary and thyme, while subtle spicy nuances of black pepper and a hint of roasted wood lend the fragrance additional sophistication. On the palate, the full splendour of this exceptional terroir unfolds: full-bodied and powerful, but never heavy, with a silky texture and velvety tannins of the highest quality. The freshness and vivacity that are so characteristic of the Gaiole vineyards permeate the entire wine and lend it an elegant lightness despite its concentration. Layers of red and dark fruits, mineral notes and a fine herbal spiciness develop on the palate and lead to an endlessly long final with hints of cocoa, tobacco and a delicate note of orange zest.
