    The Counts Bracci left their name and coat of arms to this estate: an armoured arm raising a sword. La Braccesca – the word alludes to braccia, the arm. When the Marchesi Antinori took over the estate in 1990, they brought it into the present without alienating it from its history. The first Vino Nobile from this estate was released in the same year – since then, La Braccesca has been one of the reliable addresses in the appellation. The Nobile di Montepulciano is made from Prugnolo Gentile – the local Sangiovese clone of Montepulciano – complemented by a small proportion of Merlot, which rounds off the wine without dominating it.

    The grapes come from the three historic subzones of the estate: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano, all recognised top DOCG sites on the hills around Montepulciano. Hand-picked from the end of September to the beginning of October. Around 15 days of maceration, then 12 months in large oak barrels. Then a further 12 months in the bottle – only then is the wine released onto the market. The 2022 vintage started promisingly: mild winter, good conditions for green manure and soil work. The dry summer brought concentration, while a hailstorm at the end of June reduced yields in some plots – without affecting the quality of the fruit. What remained on the vines ripened under favourable conditions until the harvest.

    Bright ruby red in the glass. The nose is complex and expressive: ripe cherry, blackcurrant, spices, tobacco, a hint of violets. Full-bodied and balanced on the palate, with an elegant tannin structure, good minerality and lively Sangiovese acidity that carries the wine through to the long, savoury finish.
