“Berardenga” Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG 2024
Felsina's entry-level wine, made from 100% Sangiovese from the border between Chianti Classico and the Colli Senesi. The estate, acquired by Domenico Poggiali in 1966, is situated in Castelnuovo Berardenga on diverse soils comprising sandstone, marl and limestone. Following temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is aged for twelve months in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels. Ruby red with violet hues in the glass. On the nose, fruity aromas of wild berries and blackcurrant, complemented by pleasant spicy notes. On the palate, it is round and supple, with well-structured tannins and a delicate final of red fruits and vanilla. A classic Chianti from the Colli Senesi, perfect for everyday enjoyment with meat dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

Fuori Misura – beyond all measure. The name is no mere flourish. It is a description. This Rosato is not made in the same way as other rosés. It is not a by-product, nor the result of a separate decision. It is a saignée – a bleeding – from the very same fermentation vats in which the Chianti Classico, the Riserva Le Baròncole and the Percarlo are being produced at the same time. The must is drawn off 12 to 24 hours after crushing. To this are added 10% freshly pressed grapes, which macerate for up to 12 days. Sangiovese, Canaiolo – the very soul of the estate, seen in a different light.

Volpaia – the foxhole. High above Radda in Chianti, at 450 to 650 metres above sea level, the vineyards of Castello di Volpaia are located on the highest slopes of the appellation. The medieval borgo, first mentioned in a document in 1172, has belonged to the Mascheroni-Stianti family since 1966, who consistently farm organically here. The altitude shapes the character: sandstone soils, cool nights and long ripening periods give the Sangiovese (supplemented by 10% Merlot) a freshness and elegance that would be hard to achieve in warmer locations. Chianti Classico DOCG 2024 (BIO)
San Giusto a Rentennano – the name is of Etruscan origin and embodies centuries of history. This medieval estate lies in the southernmost corner of Chianti Classico, where the region meets the upper reaches of the Arbia and the hills become more remote, quieter and rougher. A Cistercian monastery – San Giusto alle Monache – once stood here. In 1204, the Florentines fortified the area as a border outpost against Siena. The underground vaults from that period now serve as the storage cellars for Martini di Cigala. The family has owned the estate since 1914. Luca, Francesco and Elisabetta now run it guided by the conviction that has defined the estate since the early 1980s: Sangiovese needs no shortcuts. It needs low yields, fully ripe harvestand time. Organically farmed since 2006, with green pruning in July and August reducing yields by 30 to 50 per cent. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, harvested by hand.

“Collezione Fabrizio Bianchi” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2024
The vines, which are over 50 years old, lie outside the Chianti Classico appellation and were planted by Fabrizio Bianchi back in the 1970s as a sort of "labour of love". Inspired by the great white wines of Burgundy, it was initially fermented exclusively in wooden barrels. Since 2000, however, the proportion of grapes fermented in oak has steadily decreased, so that today almost 70% of the grapes are fermented in stainless-steel tanks, lending the wine freshness and elegance. Delicate fruit, with barely perceptible oak. Fresh and medium-bodied on the palate, its Burgundian character and its lovely structure and length only gradually come to the fore. A refined and fruit-driven Chardonnay that wonderfully embodies both its grape variety and the terroir, whilst never appearing heavy or overbearing. SUPERIORE.DE

“Vallenuova” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2023 (BIO)
One name is making a name for itself: Vallenuova, previously the estate's entry-level Chianti, will become a Riserva with the 2023 vintage. The vineyard, which surrounds the estate like a natural amphitheatre, bears the name of the locality – still today Tolaini's official address in Castelnuovo Berardenga. What is changing is the ageing period: instead of ten months, the Riserva now matures for considerably longer in a trio of Tuscan, Slavonian and Austrian oak before spending a further few months in the bottle. The base is now also clearly defined: 100% Sangiovese from silty-clay soils with limestone and stones. Double selection – by hand in the vineyard, visually in the cellar – 20 days' maceration, temperature-controlled fermentation.

“Filetta di Lamole” Chianti Classico DOCG 2022 (BIO)
Lamole. Giovanni Manetti has long regarded this zone as one of the most distinctive in Chianti Classico. At an altitude of 620 metres, far from the heart of the region, a few plots of old Sangiovese vines survived the wave of deforestation in the 1970s. Giovanni took cuttings from these Alberello vines from the 1920s to grow his own vines in Panzano: the foundation for Fontodi's quality. This wine is made from seven hectares of Macigno sandstone, whose loose, permeable structure ensures elegance and finesse. Cool nights, long growing season, south-south-west exposure. The sandy soils give the Sangiovese a lightness that is clearly different from the powerful wines from Panzano. Vinification in concrete, certified organic.

Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2022
When a winery uses the same label for its Riserva for over sixty years, it is not a lack of imagination – it is a philosophy. Castello di Monsanto's Riserva is considered one of Italy's oldest labels still in continuous production. The label was around even before Chianti Classico became an appellation. It has survived decades and changing fashions – and it encapsulates what Monsanto stands for: Sangiovese as a conviction. The estate is situated in San Donato in Poggio, the westernmost sub-region of Chianti Classico, at an altitude of 280 to 320 metres. Galestro – a slate-rich soil, sparse and highly mineral – is the soil in which the Sangiovese vines from four vineyards take root.

Wine has been produced here since 1051 – initially by monks, and since 1846 by the Stucchi Prinetti family, now in its seventh generation. Badia a Coltibuono, the "Abbey of the Good Harvest", was the first leading winery in Chianti to switch entirely to organic cultivation. The Riserva is made from massalblend of Sangiovese and historic complementary varieties such as Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo, grown on the highest hills near Gaiole. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, three weeks' contact with the skins, followed by 24 months in French and Austrian oak barrels. Since 1995, Le Cupole has been the accessible gateway to the world of the legendary Tenuta di Trinoro, yet at this visionary winery, "accessible" never means compromise. In the Val d'Orcia, where southern Tuscany reveals its wild and unspoilt side, near Sarteano on the border with Umbria and Lazio, the eccentric scion of the Cinzano empire and nephew of the American painter Cy Twombly created a wine paradise at an altitude of 500 to 700 metres, an idea that was initially considered madness. Le Cupole is made from the same Bordeaux blend as the great Tenuta di Trinoro – Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot – but comes from younger vines on deeper, less extreme soils. Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC 2018 dolce
The name embodies three thousand years of history: the Etruscans called this land "Fèlsina", long before it came to be known as Tuscany. When the shipowner Domenico Poggiali acquired the estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in 1966, it was known primarily for its olive oil – there were just two and a half hectares of vines on the 400-hectare estate. The Vin Santo embodies the estate’s philosophy: respect for tradition, but no fear of the unconventional. Unlike most producers, Felsina does not use only Trebbiano and Malvasia, but adds a proportion of Sangiovese – the grape variety that has made the estate world-famous with Rancia and Fontalloro. The Sangiovese lends the sweet wine structure and colour, a hint of tannin and that elegance which characterises Felsina's wines.

“Le Baròncole” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2023 (BIO)
Le Baròncole – the little manors. The name refers to the feudal division of this land in the Middle Ages, to landowners who were small enough to be forgotten, but large enough to leave their mark on the landscape. Today, Le Baròncole is the name of the finest Chianti Classico from San Giusto a Rentennano – a Riserva produced only in years when the terroir warrants it. The estate overlooks the upper Arbia Valley at an altitude of 270 metres. The soils are diverse – sand, clay, limestone and mineral-rich deposits – and characterised by a microclimate that experiences marked temperature fluctuations between day and night. In such locations, Sangiovese ripens differently to elsewhere: more slowly, with greater tension, and with a freshness not found in the Maremma or the lower Chianti region. 97% Sangiovese, 3% Canaiolo, hand-harvested in September when the Martini di Cigalas grapes are at their best. Aged for 16 to 20 months in large oak casks and French barriques, depending on the vintage, followed by a further six months' bottle ageing.

![Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2023]()
Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2023
In 1975 – two years after Riecine's first Chianti Classico – John Dunkley decided that some vintages and some grapes deserved more than the usual treatment. The Riserva was born. Since then, it has only been produced when the selection allows: the finest vineyards, the oldest vines, and two stages of selection – in the vineyard and on the sorting table – before the grapes enter the cellar. The vines used for the Riserva are between 25 and 45 years old. After selection, the must is transferred to unglazed Nomblot concrete vats. There, the must is initially kept cool with dry ice for four to five days before spontaneous fermentation begins – slowly, in a natural way. After fermentation, the wine spends a further ten days on the skins, with the cap submerged. Then comes the centrepiece: the entire Riserva production is decanted into a single large oak cask from Grenier. Untoasted – no toasty aromas, no vanilla, no foreign character. Just the neutral, 'breathing' structure of the wood. 22 months. Then back into concrete tanks for natural stabilisation and clarification. Finally, three months in bottle.

“Levigne” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2022 (BIO)
The grapes for Istine's iconic Riserva come exclusively from the estate's own vineyards: Istine (Radda), Casanova dell'Aia (Radda) and Cavarchione (Gaiole). Only 4,000 bottles of this breathtaking wine, which is aged for 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, are bottled each year. A rich, luminous ruby red with a sparkling core. The bouquet displays its complexity with aristocratic restraint. A compact and fresh, fruity nose of ripe cherries and ripe raspberries, with Amarena cherries and hints of tobacco in the background. Medium-bodied on the palate, yet with infinite, captivating depth just waiting to be discovered. It then spreads beautifully across the palate, appearing almost juicy and fruit-driven, and continues to open up towards its terrific finalwith crisp cherries and a subtle hint of salt. Purists will love its linear and unmistakable Sangiovese character. SUPERIORE.DE

26 generations, since 1385 – no other house in the world of wine can boast such an unbroken history. And yet the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva label is not a museum piece, but a living testament: since the 2011 vintage, made exclusively from the vineyards of Tenuta Tignanello, the estate situated between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, which has shaped 20th-century Tuscan wine history more than any other patch of land in Chianti Classico. 319 hectares, of which 165 hectares are under vine – predominantly Sangiovese, supplemented by small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

!["ELLE" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Lamole DOCG 2022]()
“ELLE” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Lamole DOCG 2022
In the dizzying heights of Lamole, where Chianti Classico reaches its natural limits, Angela Fronti is writing a new chapter in her Sangiovese saga. Elle – the letter that stands for Lamole, but also for "Lei", the feminine elegance that permeates this exceptional wine. Spanning just 0.45 hectares, scattered across the steep terraces at an altitude of 540 metres, the old vines take root in that distinctive Macigno del Chianti – a compact, non-calcareous sandstone that makes Lamole a unique entity within the Gallo Nero territory. The Fronti family, proud members of the FIVI (Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti), embody their philosophy of absolute independence here: from their own vineyard right through to their own bottle. In Lamole, designated a magical UGA since 2017, they defy the extremes of the high altitude with a precision made possible only by decades of experience in viticulture.

Chianti Classico DOCG 2024 (BIO) · MAGNUM
San Giusto a Rentennano – the name is of Etruscan origin, and it embodies the passage of centuries. This medieval estate lies in the southernmost corner of Chianti Classico, where the region meets the upper reaches of the Arbia and the hills become more remote, quieter and rougher. A Cistercian monastery – San Giusto alle Monache – once stood here. In 1204, the Florentines fortified the site as a border outpost against Siena. The underground vaults dating from that period now serve as the cellars of Martini di Cigala. The family has owned the estate since 1914. Luca, Francesco and Elisabetta now run it guided by the conviction that has defined the estate since the early 1980s: Sangiovese needs no shortcuts. It requires low yields, fully ripe harvestand time. Organically farmed since 2006, with green pruning in July and August reducing yields by 30 to 50 per cent. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, harvested by hand.

Antonio Galloni sees Chianti Classico on the rise: his new 2026 Vinous report shows how differently weather, site and producer style have shaped the 2022 to 2024 vintages – and how many compelling wines have emerged. 2024 surprises with freshness and classic expression, while 2023 and 2022 deliver numerous strong individual results. Galloni is already offering a promising first look at 2025 – but for Chianti Classico, that vintage is still one for the future. Discover the wines tasted by Vinous from renowned producers in our portfolio – from Chianti Classico to Tuscany's great IGT wines.
After three challenging vintages, Antonio Galloni sees Chianti Classico on the rise again. In his Vinous report "Chianti Classico: Looking Up", published on August 27, 2026, the main focus is on the currently relevant 2024, 2023 and 2022 vintages. At the same time, Galloni offers an initial and decidedly positive outlook on 2025. More important than any verdict on an individual vintage, however, is his long-term conclusion: quality in the region is rising – not only among the top wines, but increasingly among more accessible bottlings as well.
Chianti Classico on the rise
Chianti Classico has been through a turbulent run of vintages. Heat and drought, hail, exceptionally heavy rainfall and downy mildew have presented growers with very different challenges since 2022. All the more interesting, then, that Galloni does not stop at a simple assessment of the vintages.
His attention is focused more strongly on the development of the region as a whole: greater precision, clearer expression of origin and rising quality across different price levels. The difficult conditions of recent years in particular show just how substantial the differences between individual sites and producers can be.
Three current vintages – and a look ahead to 2025
Chianti Classico does not follow the simple release rhythm of one single current vintage. Chianti Classico Annata, Riserva, Gran Selezione and other wines from different harvests can reach the market at the same time. Galloni's current report therefore covers Chianti Classico 2024, Riserva and Gran Selezione from 2023, wines from 2022, as well as other current releases from earlier vintages. It also includes first tasting impressions from 2025.
2024 – Classic proportions, fine contours
2024 is developing more interestingly than the challenging conditions towards the end of the growing season initially suggested. The most successful wines show freshness, aromatic clarity and often a more restrained profile than in warmer years.
At the same time, the vintage makes clear how strongly site, microclimate and the decisions made by each individual estate influence the result. In the most convincing 2024s in particular, Galloni finds that combination of precision, freshness and classic Sangiovese character that makes Chianti Classico so compelling.
2023 – A year for strong producer signatures
2023 demanded particularly close attention from growers. Persistent rain and warm temperatures substantially increased downy-mildew pressure, yields fell in many places and some wines were not bottled at all.
The results are correspondingly varied. Alongside lighter interpretations, remarkably deep and precise wines were produced. 2023 therefore demonstrates particularly clearly how much difference meticulous work in the vineyard, careful selection and precise decisions in the cellar can make.
2022 – Diversity with depth
2022 cannot be summed up with a simple vintage verdict either. A predominantly hot and dry growing season was interrupted in mid-August by a severe hailstorm that hit some parts of Chianti Classico hard, while other sites were far less affected.
Despite these difficult conditions, excellent wines were produced. Some of the 2022s rank among the particularly convincing results in Galloni's tastings. A good example of why the general conditions of a vintage alone still say little about the quality of an individual bottle.
2025 – A promising outlook
After the turbulent growing seasons of previous years, 2025 brought considerably more balanced conditions. Galloni's first tasting impressions are correspondingly positive: he sees promising signs of freshness, ripeness, aromatic clarity and substance.
For buyers of Chianti Classico, however, 2025 remains a preview for now. As of September 2026, the vintage has not yet been released and is therefore not yet represented in our Chianti Classico range. It will be all the more interesting to see how these early impressions are confirmed once the first wines are officially released onto the market.
The producer as a compass
One of the most useful conclusions from the report emerges from the very different conditions of recent years: with Chianti Classico, it is worth looking at producer and origin at least as closely as at the vintage.
Even within a single harvest year, weather patterns and microclimates can vary considerably from place to place. Added to this are decisions in the vineyard, at harvest, during selection and in the cellar. A meticulous producer can therefore create exceptional wines even under difficult conditions.
For wine lovers, this means that a challenging vintage is no reason to dismiss a bottle outright – just as a highly praised year does not automatically guarantee a great wine. Producer, site and the specific bottling remain decisive.
Quality across the board
Producers from our portfolio featured in the current report include Castello di Monsanto, Castellare, Badia a Coltibuono, Tolaini, Riecine, San Giusto a Rentennano, San Felice, Tenuta di Carleone, Fèlsina, Gagliole, Isole e Olena, Podere Il Carnasciale, Querciabella, Tenuta di Trinoro, Tenuta Tignanello and Montevertine.
The spectrum extends far beyond classic Chianti Classico. Alongside Annata, Riserva and Gran Selezione are well-known wines such as Il Poggio, Le Baròncole, VinSanGiusto, Pugnitello, Batàr, Tignanello, Botte Grande and Le Pergole Torte. Together they create a broad picture of the current quality development in Chianti Classico and its immediate surroundings.
Particularly interesting is Galloni's observation that progress is not limited to the most famous or expensive wines. Among more accessible bottlings too, he increasingly finds quality, individuality and a clear expression of origin. This is precisely one of the strongest messages of his report: development is taking place across the board.
The Vinous selection at SUPERIORE.DE
"Chianti Classico: Looking Up" is therefore more than a snapshot of individual vintages. The currently available 2024s show freshness and classic expression, while 2023 and 2022 demonstrate impressively how important producer, site and precise work are to the final result in the glass. 2025, meanwhile, already offers a promising glimpse of what may come next.
