At Quintarelli, patience is no accident, but a method – and with the magnum format, it is taken to an even higher level. Like Romano Dal Forno, the other great traditionalist of Valpolicella Classico, the Quintarelli family also always releases their magnum bottles a full year later than the standard format. This principle stems from the same conviction that underpins the entire estate: the wine sets the pace, not the calendar. Half of the Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara grapes are pressed immediately after harvest, whilst the other half are air-dried for two months. The blended must is then aged for seven years in large Slavonian oak barrels. In the larger volume of the magnum bottle, the ageing process then proceeds more slowly and in a more controlled manner than in the standard bottle; the additional year before release gives the wine exactly the time this format needs to fully realise its potential.

On the nose, dried roses and violets, crushed stone, cloves and blood orange. On the palate, silky textures interwoven with ripe wild berries and sweet lavender – an almost ethereal lightness, carried by sweet, delicately integrated tannins and perfumed floral notes. It is precisely this extra year that makes a noticeable difference: whilst the standard bottle already seems complete, the magnum gains an additional layer of depth and serenity – the wine has had noticeably more time to find its own balance and will continue to develop further with additional years of bottle ageing.
