Barbaresco DOCG 2020
The grapes for Batasiolo's Barbaresco come from the gently rolling hills around the village of the same name, where Nebbiolo has found its unmistakable expression for centuries. The year 2020 brought moderate temperatures and a balanced interplay of sun and rain – ideal conditions to maintain the balance between finesse and structure. In the glass, it glows a clear garnet red with a brick-coloured rim – an indication of its youth and the journey that still lies ahead. The nose opens with ripe cherry, dried raspberry and a hint of rose petals, framed by tobacco, sweet spices and a hint of undergrowth. Taut yet supple on the palate, with fine-grained tannins that give the wine backbone and a fresh, precise acidity that carries its inner tension. Ageing in large wooden barrels allows the fruit to shine, while subtle balsamic and earthy notes develop. The finish is long, clear and elegant, carried by a subtle mineral vein. A Barbaresco that epitomises the classic school of Piedmont – noble, long-lasting and with a depth that will continue to develop for several years. Very good value. SUPERIORE.DE

A Barbaresco of exceptional complexity. Rich in tannins and structured thanks to the chalky composition of the soil, it nevertheless retains a characteristic freshness and minerality that makes it a favourite with connoisseurs. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, crushed rock, rose petals and lavender. As always, Montefico is taut and angular in style. Its sense of transparency is simply beguiling. Sage, mint and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the nuances that linger. Montefico is a Barbaresco for lovers of tauter red wines, which it will delight. Barbaresco DOCG 2020
A Barbaresco from our own vineyards in Treiso and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. Each parcel is harvested separately and fermented in stainless steel; gentle remontage, selective délestage, followed by calm malolactic fermentation. For the maturation phase, the winery uses large Slavonian barrels, supplemented by a smaller proportion of French oak – not to provide flavour, but to fine-tune the texture and balance. Thanks to stable summer weather and cool nights in autumn, 2020 produced fully ripe, healthy harvestwith a well-proportioned acidity line.

Do you know the small vineyard Basarin near Neive? A bright ruby garnet awaits you and a wine from a particularly beautiful vintage: on the nose, a cornucopia of aromas of wild sour cherry, herbs, some liquorice and tobacco. Firm and very clearly structured on the palate, muscular and yet with an elegance that never loses control due to its power. Basarin is a highly energetic and precise Nebbiolo that reveals its complexity only with some patience and aeration. The neighbouring terroir Neive shows itself with distinguished elegance and marries harmoniously with the volume and weight typical of the site - and in a depth that only vines over 50 years old can produce. ![Barbaresco "Currá" DOCG 2020]()
Barbaresco “Currá" DOCG 2020
Currá: 2.8 hectares in the municipality of Neive, exposed to the south-south-west, where 55 to 75-year-old Nebbiolo vines sink their roots deep into pure limestone soil. This cru has always been synonymous with Barbareschi wines of exceptional structure and long ageing potential, wines that open up more slowly than their siblings and defy time with powerful, persistent tannins. The average yield is a modest 40 hectolitres per hectare – a deliberate self-restriction that guarantees concentration and expression in every berry. Currá combines the tannic power of a classic Barbaresco with the charming elegance that Neive brings to its wines, creating a wine of remarkable complexity. Andrea Sottimano treats the grapes from this vineyard with the same respectful care as all his cru wines: After meticulous hand-picking and selection, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts. Maceration lasts up to three months, during which the cap of marc is regularly punctured in open stainless steel vats – this intensive extraction gives the Currá its characteristic tannin-emphasised structure. After transfer to wood, malolactic fermentation takes place slowly and naturally in barriques from the Burgundy cooperage François Frères, with around 15 per cent new wood being used. The wine matures in the barrel for 24 months before being bottled unfiltered and unfined and then left to rest in the bottle for another year to reach its full expressive potential.

![Barbaresco Roncaglie DOCG 2020]()
Barbaresco Roncaglie DOCG 2020
First bottled in 1967, Roncaglie (formerly Barbaresco Masseria) comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. Since the 2018 vintage, it now comes from a small parcel that used to belong to the Socré Barbaresco winery and is now deliberately released a year later to ensure greater harmony and balance. Floral and spicy notes merge with a core of rich, generous fruit in a generous Barbaresco based on pure resonance. Barbaresco Roncaglie is vinified and matured in the same way as Vietti's single-vineyard Barolos. This means long fermentation, six months in French oak and more than two years in barrique. This, together with the broad shoulders of Neive, results in a noble Nebbiolo with clear hints of Barolo and impressive depth. SUPERIORE.DE

The result is very healthy, aromatically ripe grapes with clear fruit and balanced acidity – charming on the palate, yet precise and persistent. The character of the 2020 vintage
Barbaresco 2020 shows an open, finely balanced and accessible side of Nebbiolo. The wines possess maturity, but are not overpowering. They are appealing, but not arbitrary. This is precisely where their quality lies.
2020 produces wines that are already a pleasure to drink in their youth without sacrificing structure. The fruit is present, the tannins often appear very cultivated and the balance between ripeness and freshness is remarkably natural. It is a vintage that does not play off pleasure against seriousness, but brings the two together.
Critics' comments on Barbaresco 2020

DECANTER | Round, accessible and balanced
Aldo Fiordelli from Decanter particularly emphasises the round, accessible and balanced style of the vintage. After tasting numerous wines, he describes 2020 as a vintage with impressive grape ripeness, often very refined tannins as well as volume, fullness and balance in the best examples.
This categorisation is important because it positively evaluates the early responsiveness of the vintage. Barbaresco 2020 is rounder and accessible earlier without losing any of its sophistication. When Nebbiolo combines volume, fullness and balance so naturally, the result is a style that should delight many connoisseurs.
Climate, vegetation and harvest
In terms of climate, 2020 shows why a vintage with a balanced basic system can produce convincing results. Rain in late spring ensured good water reserves in the vineyards and helped to compensate for the hot and dry summer. Despite a certain amount of pressure from disease, the overall assessment of the producers remained very positive.
Hot days and cool nights preserved acidity and flavours. The result is wines with ripe fruit, fine structure and often a very attractive texture.
Balance, style and drinking window
Barbaresco 2020 is a vintage that brings a lot of joy early on. The best wines:
- appear harmonious and open
- show very ripe, often finely crafted tannins
- possess volume and fullness without heaviness
- combine early drinking pleasure with serious structure
- have good prospects for further development
Anyone who appreciates Nebbiolo not only as a long-term wine but also in its more delicate, early-drinking form will find much to enjoy in the 2020 vintage.
