The harvested Malvasia grapes stay for a few weeks under good ventilation in shady drying chambers. Without humidity and hot sun, the grapes dry slowly and thus retain their acidity and very moderate alcohol levels. Capofaro is an impressive dessert wine that comes from vines that once belonged to the late winemaker Carlo Hauner, who made Malvasia from the island of Salina famous.

Bright golden yellow. A warm bouquet of orange blossom, candied orange peel and flowers underpinned by bright, salty notes. Very tightly packed and tightly wound, it displays a lush mouthfeel and an enticing sweetness that is nicely offset by a penetrating acidity. The pioneer of Riesling on Italian soil is Aldo Vajra. Already fascinated by the variety as a student, he planted the first vines of the White Riesling variety in the Langa. Very light yellow-green in its youth, it develops into a strong straw yellow. The aromas of the noble Pètracine also take a varied course. Starting with peach and apricot, delicate floral and citrus notes follow in its mid-palate, while minerality comes to the fore as it matures. As early as 1865, the first 1,850 Pinot Noir vines were brought to Italy from Burgundy by Count Vistarino. Since then, the vinification of this demanding grape variety has been continually refined by generations. Today, the Pinot Noir Noirs of the dynasty of winegrowers can even outshine much more expensive Pinot Noirs from Burgundy at international tastings. The grapes of the winery's top crus are cultivated at an altitude of 400 m above sea level. The high temperature fluctuations between day and night ensure a complexity, precision and elegance that is rarely found even in Burgundy.

Brilliant ruby red. In the nose it is delicately fruity with hints of small red berries, coffee and hints of damp forest soil. On the palate a subtle and precise fruit, the tannins are very fine and a long, never-ending mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Rive Alte Sauvignon Blanc Piere is the lighter of the winery's two Sauvignons, but both wines are beautiful in their own way. Piere shows earthy notes of green olive, garden tomato leaves and sage on the palate, rounded off by upbeat and tangy flavours of citrus orange peel and some crushed mineral and white pepper. All the elements are in place and like all Vie di Romans whites, Piere needs time in the glass to find its centre and minerality. And if you have the patience to give it to him, he is great. Confini can justifiably be called one of the best white wines of Friuli. This crescent is an exciting blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Grigio and Riesling, with the strong aromas of Traminer clearly leading the way. "I think it's safe to say that Serena Palazzolo and her husband Christian Patat are at the top of their game, which means that the wines of Ronco del Gnemiz are among the best made in Friuli today. New to the single-varietal portfolio of the top winery is the single-vineyard Sauvignon from the Lo Lozeta vineyard of the same name, which, after years of experimentation, has finally seen the light of day. It is the result of the avant-garde planting system, which, in contrast to the method of cultivation previously practised in Friuli, means not only a higher planting density, but also the intelligent use of clones and biotypes intermarried with French offshoots. It is another uncompromising and consistent step towards complexity and personality, with optimal exploitation and expression of the existing terroir and microclimate.

It is only with this year 2019 that the wine has found the balance and complexity that enabled Christian Patat to present it to the public in a very small edition alongside the famous classics Peri, Sol and Salici. Bottled without added sulphites, this Sangiovese rarity is produced only in the best vintages and is aged for 16 months in cocciopesto, a vessel made from ground brick, fine stone, sand and natural fibre binder. This mixture can then be moulded into vessels that are waterproof but still allow for micro-oxygenation. The real peculiarity of Cocciopesto wine containers lies in the material itself, which is characterised by a high thermal inertia and a certain permeability that makes it ideal for all phases, from vinification to ageing.

The vineyard "Ca' Guicciardi" got its name from the farmhouse that lies in its centre. The single vineyard site is characterised by small, very steep valleys. Remarkable rock faces alternate with terraces supported by some of the highest dry stone walls in the Valtellina. The particular colour of the rock, which tends towards a quartz-like white, greatly enhances the power of the sun and results in higher temperatures and more light here than in other parts of the valley.

Vigna Ca' Guicciardi has an intense, bright ruby red colour, pronounced aromas of ripe red fruits with predominant notes of black cherry, currant, spices, with hints of liquorice, cloves and cinnamon in the background. Soft and full in the mouth, without appearing broad and denying its alpine origins. The project aims to highlight the link between the vines, the wines and their territorial origins. In this way, the Mastroberardino family wants to recreate the style of winemaking of the autochthonous grape varieties of Irpinia (Greco, Fiano and Aglianico) that took place between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1970s of the twentieth century for the Taurasi and between the years 1970 and 1980 for the two white wines from Irpinia. It is the unmistakable style (the stilèma) of a family that has interpreted the natural heritage of its territory over generations and today impressively highlights the genuine character of the terroir, which by no means can be expressed by high concentration and intensity alone.

The 24 months of yeast ageing of this exceptional Fiano create a fascinating balance and complexity of the aroma profile with classic hints of flint, fine saltiness, the scent of fresh almonds, cedar wood and wild herbs. Casòn Rosso is a Rosso produced on the basis of the rare, French Tannat grape, which rounds off the small edition of Lageder wines, which, although experimental, can rightly be described as unique and of a very high standard. Intense, fruity bouquet of plums and blackberries, plus some leather, smoke and green tea. Medium pressure on the palate, with an overwhelming juiciness and freshness, sublime tannins, delicate bitter notes on the finish. The Pigato grape has great ageing and maturation potential, especially in Liguria. U Baccan (Ligurian: the head) comes mostly from vines of the Russeghine vineyard, which are over 50 years old, produce a very low yield, and give it tremendous complexity.

The grapes for this exciting, mash-fermented Trebbiano come from the vineyards that the Dunkleys (former owners of the winery) found when they arrived in Gaiole in Chianti. They are destemmed and fermented in Cocciopesto amphorae. Once fermentation is complete, most of the wine remains on the skins for six months, while a small portion (10-15%) is aged without skins for the same amount of time in new Liters tonneaux.
