Tenuta Castiglioni has belonged to the Frescobaldi family since the 11th century, making it one of the family's oldest estates in Tuscany. Drawing on this long history, the Giramonte is a modern, internationally inspired cuvée that demonstrates just how far the estate has come since its beginnings. At an altitude of 200 metres, in south-west-facing clay and loam soils, a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese is grown here; it bears the name Giramonte and represents the modern side of an estate whose roots are far older than its grape varieties.
Selected by hand, the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with gentle pumping over during the early stages. Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in new French barriques over several months, before the wine is bottled for further maturation.
A deep ruby red with violet highlights. Juicy red and black berries, plum and sweet spices mingle with toasty notes, cocoa and roasted hazelnut. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with dense, silky tannins and a very long finish. A wine that embodies the family's heritage whilst demonstrating just how far it has come since then.
