“Rocca Rubia” Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Riserva DOC 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Pronounced aroma of berries and spices. Dense on the palate with a fascinating balance between tannin and full-bodiedness. A complex red with a long, smooth finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with light dark garnet. Clear and open nose, full of blueberries, spicy macchia notes, some earthy tones in the background. Rich attack and course, opens with pithy, firm tannin, lots of zwetscke, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"The 2018 Carignano del Sulcis Rocca Rubia impresses more for purity than power, presenting a display of sweet florals, crushed stone, bright cherry and hints of flowery undergrowth. It's silky in texture, lifted by vibrant acidity, with tart wild berry fruits and saline-minerals giving way to violet tones toward the close. A subtle coating of tannin lingers, framing the experience nicely, as this tapers off with a bitter twang and hints of licorice. The Rocca Rubia is very pretty and lightly structured, showing the difficulties of the vintage while maintaining admirable balance." Vinous

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2018 (BIO) · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Salcheto's garnet-red sparkling Vino Nobile delights us with fragrant dried plum and a hint of cinnamon and clove. On the palate, much present fruit, fine, sweet melting in the long finish. An authentic and pleasantly elegant organic wine from the heart of the Montepulciano region. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliantly shining garnet red. At first smell, rich spicy notes of rosemary, black olives and cedar, then ripe blueberry and cassis. Fills the mouth completely, presents itself in a stoffig woven tannin dress, with good structure, compact, pithy, with some persistence in the finish." Falstaff

"A core of black cherry, plum and blueberry fruit is augmented by earth, tobacco and rosemary in this chunky red, which is balanced, with a light granular quality to the tannins. The herb elements linger, along with the fruit." Wine Spectator

"Salchetto's launching pad Vino Nobile is crafted from the estate's organically farmed 15 hectares and is the choicest selection of grapes. Appealing from the get-go, this 100% Sangiovese smells of summer's bounty with cherry, plum, blackberry and strawberry. Hints of flint, iron and garden herbs provide nuance. The palate is fruit-laden but not heavy, and there is lovely freshness. Dry, linear tannins are sandy in texture and speak to the wine's serious side." Decanter

“La Massa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Sparkling, rich ruby. Intense scent of raspberries and cassis, herbal spicy notes. Smooth, dense, fresh and juicy berry fruit on the palate. Long, voluminous and elegant - and not only because of the price a clear buy! SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark ruby with a hint of garnet and brightening rim. Minimally reductive on the nose, then a little bacon-smoky, finally rich leather and dark berry fruit. On the palate polished and with rich fruit, currently still seems very young." Falstaff

"A blend of mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Alicante Bouschet, the Fattoria la Massa 2018 La Massa is a textured and softly pliable wine that shows gorgeous color saturation and a panoramic bouquet with black fruit, dried cherry, plum, spice and sweet tobacco. This vintage offered moments of heat and moments of coolness, and the whole approach is balanced quite nicely in this bottle. I give it a solid 10-year drinking window, and you get great value." Robert Parker

"Notes of blueberries, blackberries, porcini and nutmeg. It's full-bodied with fine tannins. Balanced with a fleshy texture. Round and velvety. Long, flavorful finish. Fine and fresh at the end." James Suckling

"The 2018 La Massa is dark, fleshy and super-expressive. Blackberry jam, cloves, chocolate and crème de cassis all come alive in this wonderfully deep, voluptuous red blend of 50% Sangiovese, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and Alicante Bouschet." Vinous

    • Chardonnay Sicilia Menfi DOC 2019
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Chardonnay Sicilia Menfi DOC 2019 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Planetas Chardonnay exudes a large and rich bouquet with aromas of apricot, apple, lemon, honey and lime. On the palate, these same intense flavours, delicate melting paired with fruity freshness and beautiful length. A Sicilian white wine at the highest level. SUPERIORE.DE

"The sweetly scented 2019 Chardonnay opens up with an alluring bouquet of dusty yellow florals, dried apricot, sage and hints of almond. It boasts oily, glycerol-like textures, lifted by stimulating acids, citrus-tinged orchard fruits and minerals. This is rich and savory with power in reserve, tapering off a bit tropical yet in perfect balance. A salty flourish keeps you coming back to the glass for more." Vinous

"Well-spiced and round, this bright, medium- to full-bodied white is rich and creamy, enlivened by orange peel acidity. Shows a lovely range of glazed apple, poached apricot and grilled nut flavors that glide across and linger on the palate." Wine Spectator

“Crognolo” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Dark fruits form the backbone of its aromatic body, to which a moderately dosed floral and balsamic perfume lends additional charm and freshness. The dense flavour is coherent, exuding its spiciness in a relaxed manner while revealing a fine tannic grid. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright rich ruby with violet. Spicy-scented nose, of sugared violets, ripe Amarena cherry and lush plums, subtle pepper spice. On the palate with a slight melt and some juiciness, medium-bodied, also spicy, minimal aftertaste in the finish." Falstaff

"A beam of bright cherry permeates this round, supple red. Raspberry, earth, iron and tobacco notes play supporting roles, while dusty tannins prevail on the finish." Wine Spectator

"This is a nicely balanced wine that offers the tangy freshness and acidity of the first grape ironed out and softened by that smaller percentage of the second. The wine is redolent of cherry, blackberry and plum. Its primary intensity is bright and cheerful. The finish shows pretty thickness, extraction and nicely integrated tannins." Robert Parker

"The 2019 vintage of Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is characterised by a great balance and expressiveness. Juicy black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and chocolate are all kicked up a few notches. Strong, bright ruby red. This one-hundred-percent Nero d'Avola is a captivating wine with its rich, fruity-spicy aroma of blackcurrants, cherries, undergrowth, liquorice and dark chocolate. The soft but firm, warm taste of ripe berry fruit, fine spice and the noble tannin inspire us very much. SUPERIORE.DE

"Elegantly shining ruby red. On the nose of blood oranges, rose hips, sealing wax and wild strawberries. Precise, fresh and clear on the palate, spans the tongue with plenty of juice and fruit, balanced on the finish with a slight saltiness." Falstaff

"A finely knit red, with silky tannins defining the flavors of pureed raspberry, crushed black cherry, pretty dried thyme and licorice notes, showing a subtle, minerally tang of iron. Medium- to full-bodied and elegant, with a lingering finish of spice box and graphite." Wine Spectator

"The 2017 Nero d'Avola Santa Cecilia explodes from the glass with masses of crushed stone, blackberries, cherries, wild herbs and hints of brown sugar. This is silky in texture with depths of sapid dark fruits complemented by sweet spice and pretty violet florals that form toward the close. The power of the warm southern coast comes through as the 2017 traverses richness with a beautiful acid-driven lift. It tapers off long to mineral-tinged wild berries framed by subtle tannins." Cupole 2019 shows dark fruit intensity and an impressive aromatic spectrum with cherries, blackberries and plums. In the mouth, a hint of sweetness, a finely accentuated texture with a phenolic density and structure that gives it volume and excellent ageing potential. Added to this is a value that is unparalleled in Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE

"Appealing aromas of black cherry, raspberry jam and plum pick up accent notes of earth and bitter almond in this solid red, which is balanced and shows fine length on the finish." Wine Spectator

"This is a terrific value proposition. The 2019 Le Cupole is a blend of 47% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. The first vintage was made in 1995, and although these four varieties have been used in the blend since the beginning, the various percentages change according to vintage conditions. This long 2019 growing season was a little more challenging for the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The wine delivers plenty of rich concentration and ripeness, but there is also a pureness to the fruit that happily underscores its cheerful and informal personality." Robert Parker

    • "Piodilei" Chardonnay Langhe DOC 2018
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

“Piodilei” Chardonnay Langhe DOC 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Piodilei has been the winery's white flagship since 1985. The grapes come from the single vineyard Il Bricco, which also produces the grapes for the award-winning Barbaresco Crus. Pio's goal from the beginning has been to create a wine with this white that has the same complexity and almost the same storage potential as the great red wines of this region. Sparkling straw yellow. Complex bouquet of herbal spice, delicate butterscotch notes, flint, pear and sweet yellow fruit. Impressive freshness in the glass with a finely integrated oak spice and notes of pineapple and chestnut. A fresh, complex and serious white that has no equal in the region. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Langhe Chardonnay Piodilei supports an elaborate structure and broad shoulders. This wine underlines the creaminess in Chardonnay, it is broad and rich, with a layered bouquet that opens to peach, exotic fruit and lemon mousse. That abundant fruit is framed and brought into focus by the wine's pretty mineral contouring." Robert Parker

"A chardonnay with sliced apples, cedar and spice. Some smoked wood, too, adding to the complexity. Subtle, tight and structured. Think serious Chablis, but from Langhe!" James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Caparzo is one of two estates in Montalcino (the other is called Altesino, by the way) owned by the utterly charming Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini. Caparzo's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a very classic interpretation that delivers the perfect stuff without distracting frills. The wine opens with aromas of red and purple fruits, with dried herbs, potting soil, cedar and light spices showing in the background. The fruit comes from a site with heavier clay soils, one gets a good impression of this additional density and richness here. The 2016 vintage, which is simply perfect in terms of climate, offers everything you look for in an exemplary and generous Brunello. This is pure pleasure, the style of the wines simply makes you want more ... SUPERIORE.DE

"Expressive yet finely contoured with very clear notes of cherry, red plums as well as lovely floral hints and a fine marzipan note. Polished on the palate with fine tannin, sweet berries and lovely varietal expression. Excellent wine value available for under €30." Weinwisser

"Dark ruby red. In the nose slightly flowery, after violets, then citrus accentuated on oranges and lemons, but develops in the glass and opens up after some time on red berry nuances paired with noble spice. Shows fine polish on the palate, elegant cranberry fruit, has many layers and great pressure, seems very balanced, gripping tannin in the finish." Falstaff

"Prior to acquiring the Altesino estate, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased Caparzo in 1998. The property includes 28 hectares designated for Brunello and this estate bottling amalgamates vineyards from four distinct areas with different exposures and soils. The 2016 is charming with a delicate lightness and lively brightness. Violet, rosemary and liquorice aromas lead to cool mint and brambly notes on the palate. Easy flowing and seamless with smooth tannins and a dusty cherry finish." Decanter

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows mineral-laced black cherries with earth tones and hints of tanned leather. It's soft in texture with a polished display of ripe berries and savory spice, as zesty acids create a juicy expression while slow-mounting tannins collect upon the senses. This turns dry and structured toward the finale, yet with the balance for a long and steady evolution in the cellar. This is really very nice." Vinous

"Plum, ripe-berry and floral aromas with hints of sandalwood and fresh mushrooms. It's full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins and a fresh, crushed-stone finish. A little timid now." James Suckling

"Ripe, sweet cherry and raspberry fruit are accented by floral, mineral and wild herbs in this alluring red. A backbone of dense, dusty tannins provides support, and the ripe fruit returns on the savory finish. Excellent length." Wine Spectator

“Bradisismo” Rosso Veneto IGT 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

1997 saw the birth of Bradisismo, named after the geological event that led to the formation of the Colli Berici. It is a successful symbiosis of the intense, concentrated aroma of ripe cherries of Cabernet Sauvignon and the lively, spicy notes of Carmenere. With its bouquet of small dark berries, spices, pepper and chocolate, it is a wonderfully affordable alternative to the big Bordeaux blends or Supertuscans. Strong, powerful red with good proportions. Dense aromas of ripe plums, blackberries and dried cherries define its compelling personality. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep black/purple. Cedar oak, baked stones, ripe black fruit and flint. Rich black fruit holds the firm, slightly grainy tannins. Spicy mid palate and finish. Distinctive and food-friendly." Jancis Robinson

"A pronounced nose that beguiles you with its notes of cherry compote, darkly spiced licorice, tar, light vanilla and blackcurrants. Trim and foursquare on the palate, due to the firmness and vivacity of the tannins, but generous and endearing. Medium to full body and a velvety finish." James Suckling

    • "Titolo" Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2018
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Elena Fucci's exceptional wine Titolo is already built for the long haul in the "basic variant". It will continue its steady development for at least the next 20 years, so it is a joy to drink at a mature age, especially in magnum format. Dark ruby red, on the nose aromas of ripe red fruits and a fine wood spice. Put together with enormous precision, the wine offers a balanced intensity and a nice level of fruit purity that speaks both for the Aglianico grape and the extreme territory that produces it. Titolo convinces with its fine texture and elegantly integrated tannins. This is a masterful Aglianico performance, just the way we love it. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, dark ruby garnet. Fragrant nose of dried rose, ripe strawberries, a hint of vanilla, honey in the aftertaste, inviting bouquet. Opens softly on the palate with polished tannin, clear red fruit, stretches finely and elegantly over the tongue, compact tannin presses gently on the palate in the finish." Falstaff

"There's no mistaking the masses of pure, mineral-laden, musky Aglianico del Vulture fruit that wafts up from the 2018 Titolo. It's dark, with violet florals and smoke smoldering in the glass. The silky and pliant textures within wash a polished wave of mineral-tinged black fruits and savory exotic spices across the palate with ease, propelled by zesty acidity. Grippy tannins emerge, yet the mouth waters as a salty flourish lingers, along with hints of licorice and lavender. The 2018 won't be the longest-lived vintage of Titolo, but this beauty will excel easily through medium-term cellaring." Vinous

"Plush aromas of violet, juniper, cherry and bramble berry burst on the nose. Medium in weight, there's a driven, ample feel to the juicy red-cherry and blackberry flavors, with bits of tar and pressed rose arising on the midpalate. Yet, throughout the whole experience, bouncy berry fruit and zesty crushed mineral tones remain constant." Wine Enthusiast

“Korem” Bovale Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2017 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Only 5 copies and exclusive to us: hand-signed by winemaker Valentina Argiolas!

With the 2017 vintage, Korem celebrates its 20th anniversary. It is a wine that perfectly interprets the Argiolas family philosophy: Innovation with deep respect for Sardinian tradition. A wine born from the desire to enhance and perfect the Bovale vine. Bovale is a low-yielding grape variety, as it requires well-ventilated soils with excellent exposure. It is refined in Korem by the addition of Carignano and Cannonau, two other traditional Sardinian grape varieties.

Korem shines in deep ruby red from the glass. Intense berry aromas on the nose, velvety, full-bodied, warm and round on the palate. A top wine that impressively reflects the great potential of the family winery. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Korem is a sweetly scented and perfumed effort presenting notes of crushed black cherries and spicy oak front and center. Its textures are velvety and rich in feel, with polished black fruits offset by hints of bitter espresso bean and tobacco. A fine coating of tannin lingers through the youthfully structured finale, along with hints of plum, licorice and lavender." Vinous

"A juicy, plummy red with clove, ash and smoked-meat character. It's full and layered with lots of fruit and richness. Round tannins. Some walnut undertones." James Suckling

“Poggio Rosso” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Poggio Rosso Gran Selezione from the top year 2016 is a paragon of intensity and a fullness of fruit that layers beautifully. Very beautiful interpretation of the Sangiovese grape with a dense core and lots of padding around it. Rich ruby garnet, very fine texture and structure on the palate that only fully reveals itself with the necessary time in the glass. It is tense and powerful in its youthful years, the acidity and also the well-built tannin are programmed to develop, for only in a few years will it fully reveal its full elegance and greatness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby red. In the nose of ripe forest fruits underlined by delicate leather spice. On the palate gripping with wide-meshed tannin, delicate dryness, but has plenty of salt, seems mineral, can and should still mature." Falstaff

"From a parcel originally planted in the 1970s with selected Sangiovese clones. Appropriately developing in its aroma profile, this doles out tobacco, bay leaf, leather, dried thyme and a suggestion of chestnut. The palate is bright with sour cherry, tart redcurrant, and a kick of tangy acidity. The tannins are compact and dense - still quite chewy, this could do with another year or so in the cellar." Decanter

"This bright red features cherry, raspberry, floral and spice aromas and flavors allied to a silky texture. Iron, sanguine and toasty accents add complexity. Firm and built to age, with a terrific finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso is a powerful, bold wine that captures all the natural intensity of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, espresso, lavender and French oak are all amped up. Exuberant and generous in the glass, with superb richness, the 2016 has so much to offer. The style is extroverted - there is no doubting that - but all the elements are impeccably balanced." Vinous

"The San Felice 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso shows a saturated appearance with dark garnet and ruby colors. Following that beautiful appearance in the glass, the wine opens to cassis, wild cherry, spice and toasted wood. The oak element is an important component of the mouthfeel that shows solid, mid-weight heft and long, polished tannins that would be a nice accompaniment to a filet mignon." Robert Parker

"A beautiful, soft-textured Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, showing currant, berry and black-cherry aromas with some floral and lavender undertones. It's full-bodied, yet balanced and refined. Super quality." James Suckling

Pure variety Merlot, which offers a very spicy nose, multi-layered red fruit aromas, a powerful and dense body. Big, firm, smooth and with potential for quite a few years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Shows notes of tobacco and liquorice on the nose, lots of blackberry. Lots of juicy fruit on the palate, fine-meshed tannin, plenty of crisp acidity." Falstaff

"Full and juicy with lots of ripe fruit and spices. Firm and silky tannins. A little tight now but shows potential." James Suckling

"The Barone Ricasoli 2016 Casalferro puts a purely Tuscan fingerprint on the Merlot grape. From a classic vintage that was especially favorable for an early-ripening variety such as this, the wine is beautifully tonic and tightly wound initially, although it cedes and expands quite elegantly onto the palate. The bouquet opens gracefully to dark cherry, blackberry, spice, leather and tar. These elements are balanced and weighed against each other with just the right intensity." Robert Parker

“Marchese Antinori” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Since the 2011 vintage, the Riserva Marchese Antinori has been produced one hundred percent from grapes from Tenuta Tignanello. This reduced the production volume and set in motion a further leap in quality. Sparkling ruby, dark wild cherries, graphite, violets and spices in the bouquet. Flowing and round on the palate, very juicy, the French oak adds volume and richness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark ruby. After rich cherries, precious woods and black pepper in the nose, reminiscent of blackberry jelly in the finish, some rose petal, fine-smelling. Presents itself balanced and with a nice fan on the palate, crisp acidity supports the clear fruit, with a salty core, punchy finish." Falstaff

"This is very lively and energetic with fine tannins and a long, focused finish. Aromatic and bright with berries, plums and flowers. Medium body. with savory acidity and a long finish." James Suckling

"This wine is made exclusively with fruit from the gorgeous Tenuta Tignanello in San Casciano Val di Pesa (home to its namesake wine Tignanello, and Solaia) and sees mostly Sangiovese blended with a smaller part Cabernet Sauvignon and other complementary grapes. The Marchesi Antinori 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori vaunts a smooth and silky personality with ample berry definition and brightness. The previous 2017 vintage revealed more black and purple fruits because of the scorching hot and dry summer that year, but this wine from the cooler 2018 growing season focuses on red raspberry and cherry instead. That fruit is framed by light spice (from Hungarian and French oak) and licorice." Robert Parker

"Cherry, black currant and raspberry flavors are at the heart of this red, flanked by vanilla, toasty oak, mineral and tobacco elements. There is a beam of ripe fruit and dusty tannins right through the long finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori offers a beguiling mix of Sangiovese energy and Cabernet Sauvignon savoriness. Translucent and energetic, the 2018 has much to offer. I would prefer to see a bit more Sangiovese character, but the Marchese is designed to be a sort of mini-Tignanello and it leans towards the more savory end of the spectrum because of the presence of Cabernet Sauvignon." The Brunello di Montalcino 2016 is a stunning creation from an iconic vintage. It was the ideal year for Sangiovese to show its complete and true magic. The current release shows amazing complexity with a bouquet that opens gently and subtly to reveal dark cherries, spices, balsamic herb and dried violets. On the palate, the impressions are reflected in an ideally precise and well-proportioned way, accompanied by an inner softness and finesse that completely delighted us. SUPERIORE.DE

"A broad bouquet with ripe red and dark fruits, wild strawberries, cassis and red currants. Behind this, the wood barrel ageing also shows with fine cedar, cloves and dark spices as well as herbs. Rich, almost fleshy palate, with a coarse-meshed tannin network, but of the best quality. Very persistent and substantial on the final." Weinwisser

"Rich, sparkling ruby-garnet. Impressive and present nose, full of ripe plums, cherries and also blackberries, in the background some leather and liquorice. Juicy and firm on the palate, opens with grippy, gripping tannin, profound, has firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"Lustrous ruby. Savoury, meaty and brooding. Still quite closed. With aeration stony minerally notes emerge. Bags of sour-cherry and raspberry fruit in perfect balance with the finely chiselled tannins. Mouth-watering, long and focused." Jancis Robinson

"Camphor, new leather, underbrush and blue-flower aromas mingle together in the glass along with a whiff of toasted nut. On the firmly structured palate, assertive, close-grained tannins and an acidic backbone accompany dried cherry, licorice and tobacco." Wine Enthusiast

"A red with blackberry, cherry, some walnut and chocolate, as well as mahogany. Tea, too. It's full-bodied and firm-tannined with beautiful length and depth. Linear and very fine." James Suckling

"Among Montalcino's largest estates, Il Poggione continues to impress in 2016 under father and son winemaking duo, Fabrizio and Alessandro Bindocci. The wine wears its warm, southwestern origins assuredly on its sleeve, exhibiting dark bramble fruit intertwined with baked thyme and rosemary, fragrant wet earth and leather. It is weighty but not weighed down, and sports the grip and zip of the vintage, the lingering finish full of tobacco and spice." Decanter

"The Il Poggione 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a medium dark appearance with pretty Sangiovese shine and a little ruby sparkle. This vintage shows a slightly untamed or wild side with a dense and heavier fruit profile. The focus here is on blackberry, dried cherry, tobacco and even a touch of smoky tobacco or horse saddle. The wine shows the firm grip and tannic backbone that is a common trait in this vintage, especially with the vineyards on this southern, sunlit side of the appellation. I also get a considerable flash of acidity on the close, almost too much, that certainly needs a few more years to soften. You really need to wait with this one." Robert Parker

"This Brunello leads with black cherry, black currant and violet aromas, augmented by flavors of iron, tobacco and spice. Dusty tannins emerge on the lingering finish, while the sweet fruit persists. Should be compelling in a decade." Wine Spectator

"I'm not sure how Il Poggione manages to remain one of the largest producers of Brunello, maintaining such a high level of quality and turning out some of the best wines of the vintage year after year - but they do. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is yet another stunning example. Depths of mineral-encased black cherries, sage, allspice, licorice, tobacco and crushed violets lift up from the glass. It's seamlessly silky, even as the palate is peppered with tart red and black berries, nervous acids and savory exotic spices. This shows the density and weight of the vintage in a youthfully monolithic stance, yet with all the necessary components to maintain perfect balance. The 2016 Il Poggione seems to fold in upon itself through the finish, which is dark, mysterious and structured, with only hints of black tea and licorice to tempt the imagination. It's a classic in the making." Vinous

    • Chianti Classico "Vigna San Marcellino" Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 (BIO)
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Chianti Classico “Vigna San Marcellino” Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 (BIO) · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Sparkling ruby red. Complex and enveloping bouquet of rich cherry, black forest berries, violets and tobacco. The single-vineyard Chianti Classico San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins, of exemplary harmony and a savoury, slightly salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful ruby with fine violet shimmer. Somewhat cloudy nose of black truffle, elderberry, some red beet. Shows a lot of power on the palate, dense, hearty tannin, but also seems quite edgy." Falstaff

"Lustrous, youthful mid crimson. A lifted embracing nose of sweet oak and intense cherry fruit. Bags of tangy juicy cherry fruit laced with sweet oak. An absolute super-charmer with finely ground tannins and a vibrant finish." Jancis Robinson

"Black cherry, wet earth and crushed stone on both the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins and a linear, finely chewy finish. Fresh and tight." James Suckling

"Vigna San Marcellino is both youthfully fresh and maturely complex. It includes a healthy dose of the deeply coloured Pugnitello grape, and both this and the Sangiovese saw long post-fermentation macerations of over 30 days in 2016. Liquorice, tarragon and broom interlace with exuberant plum and understated toasted nuances that are seductive. Laden with black cherry and rich, velvety tannins, the palate is creamy in texture, while underlying chalkiness and saline minerality lend energy, leading to a sappy, refreshing finish." Decanter

"A meaty, muscular version, this red displays black cherry, blackberry, tar, leather and iron aromas and flavors. There is beam of fruit, along with a tightly-wound, vibrant structure. Fine length too." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is a dense, packed wine. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2016 is an infant. Super-ripe blue/purplish fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol build in the glass. The 2016 is dense and opulent, and yet the acids pulse with energy, lending a feeling of translucence that becomes especially apparent on the finish. That combination makes for a compelling Gran Selezione that should age well for 15-20 years or more." Vinous

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

A picture-book Brunello from a picture-book vintage: Wonderfully cherry-accented bouquet with hints of violet blossoms, clove, cigar box and a pleasant spicy sweetness. Dense and expressive on the palate, it opens vibrantly and multilayered and then reveals a wonderful load of black cherry, exotic spices and a fine salty vein. The perfectly balanced tannin always provides the necessary balance and gives it a racy, very long finish with its exceedingly refined flavour components. SUPERIORE.DE

"A wild and unbridled version, as much about the woodsy pine, wild herb and iron flavors as the brooding black cherry and blueberry fruit. Long and resonant, with muscular tannins and lively acidity lending support." Wine Spectator

"The Castiglion del Bosco 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a fruit-forward expression with soft cherry, blackberry, tilled earth and a touch of sweet spice. This wine is made in an especially accessible style that prizes ripe fruit and oak aging (in both barrique and botte). Fruit comes from a 52-hectare vineyard with galestro schist and clay. The tannins are more evident here compared to the 2015 vintage; however, this wine is almost ready to go with beef tagliata topped with porcini mushrooms." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino really stands out with its vivid display of crushed raspberries, lavender and clove. Further depths are found with each swirl, adding mentholated herbs and flowery undergrowth. It's dense and dark-fruited, enveloping the palate with notes of black cherry, plum, exotic savory spice and minerals. This is soothing and pliant in spite of the 2016's youthful state, balancing brisk acids and fine tannins to create a push and pull of structural tension. The symmetry here is spellbinding, and everything is in the right place for a long and fruitful evolution over the next ten to fifteen years." Vinous

"The complexity and beauty to this is really something with cherry, walnut, tobacco and cigar-box character. Sweet cherries. It's full-bodied and deep with super intensity and power. Layered and beautiful. Really refined tannins. Some whole-berry fermentation gives this added character. Goes on for minutes." James Suckling

    • "Roncicone" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016
Double-MAGNUM in OWC

“Roncicone” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three micro-layers that will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards. As a result, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione range now includes the famous Castello di Brolio as well as three Cru vineyards (Colledilà, Roncicone and Ceniprimo), all of which are 100% stocked with Sangiovese. They differ in structure and taste in close correspondence with their terroir and impressively demonstrate the complexity of the Chanti Classico region.

The new Cru Roncicone comes from soils with maritime deposits. It is a 10.1 hectare plot that was planted between 1998 and 2000 with a density of 6,000 plants per hectare. The soils are rich in marine fossils with sand at the top and thicker clay under the topsoil. Our impression of this wine is that it is most immediately and softly structured.

Roncicone has a deep dark, fruity smoky bouquet. On the palate dark violet fruits, paired with notes of forest soil, tobacco and a nice spice. The volume is full and deep, the tannins very accessible even at a young age and the finish is flanked by a well-structured acid structure, which will also provide a very good aging potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"It comes from a single vineyard at 320 metres above sea level, with a wonderful aroma of wild berries and herbs; the start is fresh and juicy, the acidity reviving and in perfect harmony with the tannins, full of elegance in the style of a Burgundy until the end." Vinum

"Here is a new exciting wine from Francesco Ricasoli that represents the hands-on results of a long zoning and research project underway at this estate to better understand the potential of each single vineyard within the greater Castello di Brolio property. The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio Roncicone is a soft and velvety expression with a long bouquet of dark and purple fruit, tilled earth, spice and tobacco. The wine offers volume, grit and a more accessible or sweet tannin. This is a great steak wine made from 100% Sangiovese that was aged in 500-liter tonneaux. Some 6,000 bottles were made. This vineyard site is rich in marine fossils." Robert Parker

"I love the purity of fruit to this Gran Selezione that shows hibiscus, orange peel, violets, lavender, early grey tea, cloves, tobacco and wet earth. Elegant and flowing with lithe yet structured tannins, intensely refreshing acidity and a long, complex finish. Superb sangiovese." James Suckling
