“Selezione 3 Cru” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 · 3 bottles in gift box
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. Since the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has, for the first time, vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiola.
We are pleased to offer you all three 2019 Cru from three terroirs from three communes in a beautiful decorative box!
1 bottle à 0,75l | "Castello Fonterutoli" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Castello di Fonterutoli comes from 11 different plots at an altitude of 420-510 m around the hamlet of Fonterutoli in Castellina in Chianti. It is quasi the "château" and at the same time the oldest cru of the winery and was first produced in 1995 as the predecessor of today's Gran Selezione. Rich colour and a clear scent of blackberries, cherries, violets and flowers, plus a little nougat. This full-bodied Castello Fonterutoli impresses with its beguiling extract sweetness and polished tannin. The intense and concentrated taste enchants the senses. The long final is full of elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, radiant ruby red. Somewhat restrained on the nose, gentle hints of orange zest and raspberries. On the palate juicy and with a red berry fruit core, shows itself elegant and drinkable, currently still very young, in the finish delicate pressure with a lot of finesse, salty." Falstaff
"Top Chianti Classico with crushed dark cherries, rose petals and hints of cedar on both the nose and palate. Medium-to full-bodied and very structured with lots of tannins. Needs time to soften. Try after 2024." James Suckling

Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes are vinified separately for the first time by the Mazzei family as Gran Selezione with the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby, a restrained but clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth, and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well integrated tannin makes it seem supple from the first to the last glass and impresses with a long finish - its elegance is great! SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with orange tinges. The most contained of the estate's three Gran Selezioni. Elegant suave fruit that is less baroque and more about elegance. Long tangy raspberry and cherry fruit finish with sleek but long tannins." Jancis Robinson
"A juicy and ripe wine with freshness and brightness for the Radda zone in Chianti Classico. Medium-bodied. Savory. Orange peel." James Suckling

Storage potential: 2041+1 bottle à 0,75l | "Vicoregio 36" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Vicoregio 36 is the successor to the ambitious Mix 36 and, as of 2017, a true Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. As a result of 50 years of research, 36 biotypes of the Sangiovese grape were planted on a sunny plateau near Castelnuova Berardenga, from which this extremely interesting and distinctive wine was created a few years ago. The overall impression is very balanced and straightforward with hints of red cherries, spices, dried blueberries and tobacco. It is the warmest and most balanced of the three Gran Selezione wines. Its intensity, richness of colour and precise fruit instantly captivate the Sangiovese lover. SUPERIORE.DE
"Raspberry-scented seducer with floral and herbal notes; flattering on the palate, silky tannin embedded in fine acidity, finishes long and fresh. Pleases with its elegance and no-frills style. Among the best cuts of Viennese beef cuisine." Vinum
"A very linear and fine-tannined Chianti Classico with crunchy cherry fruit and hints of minerals. Medium body. Crisp and lively finish. Closed and tight in the mid-palate." James Suckling

“I Climat” Selezione Chardonnay Friuli Isonzo DOC 2016 · 6 bottles in OWC
For more than thirty years, Vie di Romans has been vinifying only its own grapes in order to respect and express the respective vineyards of origin. The crus "Piere", "Vieris", "Vie di Romans", "Ciampagnis", "Dessimis" and others embody the sensory quintessence of their grapes of origin, each with its own recognisable and enduring historical character.
With the ambitious project "I Climat" (traditional Burgundian term), Gianfranco Gallo wants to present the terroir expression of his wines in the truest and most authentic way. Each individual terroir offers a certain variability: it is up to the winemaker to decide whether to capture its unique essence or to use it in a more general way.
At Vie di Romans, the Chardonnay variety was chosen because it has an innate, genetic ability to connect in a very noticeable way with the different soil-climate complexes in which it grows. The six different Climat wines come from specific Chardonnay parcels within the two crus vineyards, Vie di Romans and Ciampagnis, and contain the names or name components of the families who farmed these vineyards in the distant past - Nuts, Goss, Curie, Glesie, Boghis and Cortesar. In the past, local properties were very parcelled out and, unlike today, were farmed by the same family or owner for generations.
It is important to mention that uniform viticulture and vinification practices were used in the vinification of all six site Chardonnays, so that no external factor could compromise the unique and natural expression. Each vintage (since the beginning of 2015) is the result of 18 months of "elevage sur lie" followed by two years of bottle ageing. The extended maturation period was deliberately chosen to allow the wine to develop the authentic sensory expression that a specific soil-climate unit is capable of producing.
Gianfranco Gallo is convinced that the true identity of a wine and the terroir that produces it only emerges through longevity, because it is only through this process that the wine discovers its inner balance, stability and unmistakable identity. SUPERIORE.DE

Rare horizontal in a gift box of 3 - an exclusive and strictly limited selection of the crus "Vigna L'Apparita", "Vigneto La Casuccia" and "Vigneto Bellavista" of the 2011 vintage.
1 bottle à 0,75l | "Vigna L'Apparita" Merlot Toscana IGT 2011 in gift box
Elegant Merlot from high altitude vineyards, whose further development in the bottle always fascinates. Very inviting bouquet, ripe berry note, elderberry and coffee. Extremely fine and structured on the palate, dense, polished tannins, finishes very long and relaxed. SUPERIORE.DE
"Compared to 2010, the 2011 L'Apparita (100% Merlot) is a very different wine. It's impossible to imagine how Castello di Ama could improve on the utterly divine and delicious 2010, but I liked 2011 even more. Again, I just feel that this estate with its vineyards that reach beyond 500 meters in altitude performs best with warm vintages such as this one. Those who love Castello di Ama's wines will have to wait until the 2013 vintage is released. This is a gorgeous wine that sings in a loud and graceful voice. That extra cherry softness of Merlot has been pulled back to a perfect point. The wine offers layers of richness and suppleness. The effects are layered, complex and absolutely engaging. This is a standout wine." Wine Advocate
"A deep and beautiful red with ripe berry, plum and orange peel character. Almost exotic in style. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a caressing texture. Goes on for minutes. So beautiful now but will be event better in 2018. Greatest L'Apparita ever?" James Suckling

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from the single vineyard of the same name with Gran Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with the highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Wine Advocate
"A wine of pure femininity and grace, the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is wonderfully fleshy and radiant in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. Sweet, silky tannins wrap around a super-expressive finish laced with knock-out aromatics. The 2011 is firing on all cylinders today." VINOUS
"Amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. Dried flowers and violets too, plus tanned leather. Full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Stunning texture. One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made." James Suckling

The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista single vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and rich on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Wine Advocate
"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." VINOUS

“Ilatraia Special Edition” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 · 6 bottles in OWC
This exclusive wooden box of 6 includes not only 3 bottles of the legendary Maremma cuvée Ilatraia 2015, but also one single-varietal bottle each of its "individual parts", which have gone on sale separately.
3x 0.75l "Ilatraia" Rosso Maremma IGT 2015
14,50 %vol / 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petit Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc
Deep dark ruby. Opulent nose of red berries, pleasant smoky notes and fine herbal spice. Opulent and round on the palate, the fine tannins give the wine a delicate but definite structure and the necessary seriousness until the long, soft finish. The well-integrated wood and the fruit of the Cabernet grape find an exciting symbiosis with the rather strict and taut Petit Verdot style in a very harmonious way. The wine gets better with each release and 2015 was an almost perfect year with optimal climate and ideal ripening point of the grapes. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2015 Ilatraia is a drop-dead gorgeous blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petit Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc with all fruit coming from Brancaia's Maremma vineyards along the Tuscan coast. This warm vintage has shaped an exuberant and intense red wine that hits the palate with lavish richness. The complex bouquet is composed of dark fruit elements that are contrasted seamlessly against spice, sweet tobacco and campfire ash. Yet the mouthfeel is never too heavy or overextracted. There's a lot to enjoy here." Robert Parker (95 P.)
"Aromas of black licorice and blackberry. Blueberry, too. This is so complex. Full body, extremely silky and polished with lovely tannins. Deep and long. It seems powerful and rich yet ends so balanced and refined. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and cabernet franc." James Suckling (96 P.)
1x 0,75l Cabernet Sauvignon Maremma IGT 2015

"A very linear cabernet sauvignon with firm and silky tannins, as well as mineral, currants and hints of rosemary. Firm and crisp." James Suckling (93P.)
1x 0,75l Petit Verdot Maremma IGT 2015
14.50 %vol / 100% Petit Verdot
"Very inky on the nose with some blood and orange peel undertones to the dark fruits. Full-bodied, very intense and energized on the palate. Firm and silky tannins, too." James Suckling (95P.)
1x 0,75l Cabernet Franc Maremma IGT 2015
14,50 %vol / 100% Cabernet Franc
"This is fantastic with currants, currant bush and strawberry undertones. Some flowers, too. Full-bodied and generous, yet firm and silky. Shows poise and focus." James Suckling (95P.)
