Greco Molise DOC 2024 (BIO)
According to Aristotle, the ancient clones of the Greco vine originate from Tessaglia. The most famous of these is the "Aminea Gemina Maior", from which this wine is made. Straw yellow in colour with a greenish tinge, it promises freshness and lightness. A fruity bouquet unfolds on the nose: peach, apricot, citrus fruit and a delicate hint of white flowers – all elegant and inviting. Dry, smooth and balanced on the palate: harmonious fruit, fine acidity and a mineral finish that makes you want to savour the next sip. Maturation in stainless steel tanks preserves the varietal style and aromatic clarity. 100% Greco, organically grown in Molise – a rare and charming grape variety with an expressive character. Note: There is also serious Greco outside Campania. SUPERIORE.DE

Guardia Sanframondi, Benevento. Clay-limestone hills at the foot of the Matese mountains, 350 to 450 metres above sea level, organic. Greco grows here – one of the oldest grape varieties in southern Italy, rooted in this region for centuries. Carlo and Filomena Iacobucci vinify it as it should be: in steel, fresh, without detours. Greco di Tufo DOCG 2025
Greco di Tufo is one of the most distinctive white wines in southern Italy – mineral, full of character and with a clear profile of origin. The volcanic soils around Tufo in the heart of Irpinia give the wine its typical tension. The vintage is balanced and aromatically precise: a light straw yellow colour with golden reflections in the glass. On the nose, white mandarin, yellow apple, quince and a hint of smokiness – typical of the grape variety. Taut and juicy on the palate, with vibrant acidity, a chalky texture and a salty finish. An expressive, terroir-influenced white wine with serious depth, which is excellent on its own or with grilled fish, shellfish or pasta with mussels. SUPERIORE.DE

A Greco with a clear provenance: Daltavilla reflects the exceptional terroir of Tufo with striking precision and elegance. The limestone-tuff soils of the higher elevations lend this wine mineral depth and a fresh structure. The 2024 vintage features ripe, clean grapes which were able to develop particularly aromatic flavours thanks to cool evenings during the ripening phase. In the glass, it is a radiant straw yellow with a golden-green sheen. The nose offers aromas of yellow fruits such as almond zest, warm lemon and white peach, complemented by floral notes and a subtle hint of smoke in the background. On the palate, it is juicy and dry, with harmonious acidity and elegant fruit, underpinned by a spicy, mineral tone that leads into a long, slightly salty finish. Greco di Tufo DOCG 2025
In the first century BC, the Pelasgians brought – immigrants from Thessaly – brought a grape variety to the hills of Irpinia that the Romans later called "Aminea Gemina" because of its characteristic two-part grape. Two millennia later, this vine still has the same character: unconventional, mineral, with a longevity that is unrivalled among white varieties. Mastroberardino has not only cultivated the Greco – the family rescued it when it had almost disappeared after the Second World War and made it the flagship of Campania for decades. The vineyards of Tufo and Petruro Irpino are situated at 450 metres above sea level, exposed to the south-east, in clayey and calcareous soils – and in Tufo the soil is literally named after the rock that was once important as a sulphur mine. This sulphur tone in the terroir is no coincidence: it is a signature. Hand-picked in the second decade of October, classic vinification in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by several months of bottle ageing – precise, without distraction.

“Giallo d’Arles” Greco di Tufo DOCG 2024
Giallo d'Arles tells one of the most fascinating stories of Campania's wine culture. The "yellow of Arles" refers to the golden colour that Greco di Tufo takes on when it is fully ripe, but behind this lies Luigi Moio's deep connection to classical education and his vision of a wine that translates the ancient greatness of Greco into modern perfection. Here, where the Greeks recognised two and a half millennia ago that this grape variety finds its highest perfection on the tufa soils of Campania, Moio is writing a new chapter in an ancient success story. The vineyards of Lapio, located in the heart of the Greco di Tufo zone, offer ideal conditions for this demanding grape variety. Here, at an altitude of 400 to 500 metres, the roots of the old Greco vines penetrate the characteristic tufa layers – the volcanic deposits that gave the appellation its name and give the wine its unmistakable mineral character. The extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, intensified by the altitude, create a beautiful tension between strength and elegance.

The wine of character from Campania
Greco di Tufo probably originates from the Aminea Gemina grape variety, which Greek colonists planted on the Gulf of Naples as early as the first century BC. Written sources from the twelfth century document the trade in light-coloured, long-life wines from the Irpinia region. Greco di Tufo owes its modern fame to its high acidity, rapid oxidation resistance and fragrant profile of lemon, Williams pear and almond blossom. Despite the Mediterranean sun, the grape ripens late, which preserves its cool temperament.
Tufa and mountain air
The DOCG comprises eight municipalities around the small town of Tufo in the province of Avellino. Vines grow between three hundred and five hundred and fifty metres above sea level on soils full of yellowish-grey tufa mixed with sulphur veins and ash. During the day the soil warms up quickly, at night cold air flows down from the Picentini mountains. The day-night gradient fixes flavour precision and gives the wine a smoky undertone. Smaller plantations in the Benevento hinterland produce rounder, fruit-driven varieties, but the classic Tufo amphitheatre remains the centrepiece. Synonyms such as Greco Bianco, Greco di Napoli or Greco del Vesuvio appear in old registers, but today mostly refer to other varieties.
Flavours with a tuff profile
Greco di Tufo has a light straw yellow colour in the glass. The nose opens with lime zest, apple, fennel and a hint of flint. On the palate, it appears taut, almost savoury, followed by a juicy core of peach and quince. The finish often brings a bitter almond note typical of the variety. Maturation in stainless steel tanks maintains the freshness, while longer ageing on the lees lends a creamy texture. Some winemakers experiment with large wood or tonneaux to achieve depth without the vanilla influence.
Diverse tradition with a profile
Feudi di San Gregorio is one of the most influential voices in modern Irpinia. Their Greco di Tufo "Cutizzi" comes from high-altitude vineyards with tufa-rich soil and impresses with its salty precision, floral notes and fine length. Mastroberardino, guardian of the indigenous grape varieties of Campania, relies on classic harvest from the historic zones around Tufo and Montefusco for "Novaserra". The wine shows density, expression and considerable ageing potential. Colli di Lapio, Clelia Romano's family winery, stands for handcrafted, brooding white wines that bring the terroir of Lapio precisely into the glass. Quintodecimo, the project of Laura and Luigi Moio, approaches the grape variety with scientific precision and vinifies wines of remarkable structure, inner tension and aromatic depth. It is this stylistic richness that makes Greco di Tufo perhaps the most exciting white wine grape in southern Italy.
Perfect moments of pleasure
Greco di Tufo harmonises excellently with fritto misto, spaghetti alle vongole, grilled octopus or goat's cheese. With roast rabbit in white wine, its almond flavour picks up on the herb crust. It is ideally served at nine to eleven degrees, riserva versions can reach twelve degrees. A summer's day on a rooftop terrace in Naples, with Mount Vesuvius shimmering in the haze, is the perfect setting. But don't worry: Greco di Tufo is just as impressive on the balcony at home. In summer or on a cosy autumn evening, it harmonises perfectly with an aromatic porcini mushroom risotto.
Talking rock?
A winegrower once said that the ripeness of the Greco can be recognised not only by the berries, but also by the soil: the deeper the scent of the tufa after the rain, the closer the harvest. It is clear that the wines produced on this soil are highly authentic and unmistakably unique. "Greco di Tufo is like a piece of tufa in liquid form, smoky, salty, yet full of light," says Pierpaolo Sirch, Oenologist at Feudi di San Gregorio. SUPERIORE.DE
