Historisch gesehen befinden sich die Weinberge von Castello di Fonterutoli in den Gebieten von drei benachbarten Gemeinden des Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga und Radda in Chianti. Mit dem Jahrgang 2017 hat die Familie Mazzei erstmals alle drei Großlagen separat als Chianti Classico Gran Selezione vinifiziert, um der Vielfalt des Terroirs Rechnung zu tragen: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 und Badiola.

Badiòla ist der historische Name eines Weinbergs in der Gemeinde Radda, dessen Trauben von der Familie Mazzei mit dem Jahrgang 2017 erstmals getrennt als Gran Selezione vinifiziert werden. Leuchtendes Rubingranat, eine zurückhaltende, jedoch klare Nase nach Waldbeeren, blauen Blüten, Unterholz, dazu Anklänge an dunklen Pfeffer. Am Gaumen präsentiert sich Badiòla meisterlich balanciert, ja beinahe schwerelos. Das sehr gut eingebundene Tannin lässt ihn vom ersten bis zum letzten Glas geschmeidig wirken und besticht durch langen Nachhall - seine Eleganz ist großartig! SUPERIORE.DE
