Giuseppe Russo bewirtschaftet einen Teil der 12 Hektar großen Rebfläche San Lorenzo in ca. 750 m Höhe an den Hängen des Etna nahe Randazzo. Die Lavaströme der letzten Jahrzehnte haben hier einen porösen Boden geschaffen, der reich an Vulkangestein ist und daher eine ausgezeichnete Drainage darstellt.

San Lorenzo, benannt nach dem römischen Diakon und Märtyrer, trumpft mit unwiderstehlichen Aromen von roter Kirsche, Marzipan, Chinin, Blutorange und mineralischen Steinen auf. Hervorragend nuanciert am Gaumen mit polierten Tanninen, bemerkenswerter Länge und großer Eleganz. San Lorenzo vom Etna - ein Bekenntnis und eines von vielen Beispielen dafür, dass die Rotweine vom Etna mit den fein-eleganten Vertretern des Nebbiolo durchaus mithalten können. SUPERIORE.DE

His 2018 Etna Rosso San Lorenzo is firm and structured, even more so than the other single-vineyard expressions from this vintage. The San Lorenzo parcel measures eight hectares at 730 to 770 meters in altitude and is planted to 70-year-old vines. The bouquet is detailed and fine, and it takes a minute or two to compose a list of adjectives to describe it.
