• Brunello di Montalcino "Poggio alle Mura" DOCG 2012

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio alle Mura” DOCG 2012

Of great substance and seductive softness, balance and fruitiness, Poggio alle Mura 2012 shows its best side. Ruby with violet reflections, the fragrance elegant, concentrated and bodily. Great potential for maturity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fresh berry bouquet, sandalwood and leather notes; supple attack, pithy, tannins and acidity well balanced, solid fruit finish, slightly woodsy. Vinum

"Maturing ruby with bricky rim. Big nose with hints of fruit cake and minerals. Sweet palate tightly packed with tannins. The rich fruit closes up on the finish, and the tannins take centre ground at the moment." Jancis Robinson

"Plummy aromas mix in the glass with whiffs of pressed blue flower, vanilla and mocha. The taut structured palate offers dried black cherry, coconut, licorice, espresso and black pepper while firm fine-grained tannins provide the framework. A note of pipe tobacco closes the tight finish. Give it a few more years to unwind and fully develop." Wine Enthusiast

"A dense, burly style, displaying cherry, iron, leather, earth, tobacco and spice flavors. Unyielding and compact now, yet also complex and long." Wine Spectator

"Very ripe and dense with lots of dried-fruit, spice and cedar character. Some cigar box, too. Full-bodied, velvety and rich. Powerful. Give it two to three years of bottle age." James Suckling

"Bright and generous, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura opens to a darkly concentrated appearance and bold aromatic intensity. The wine is forthcoming and immediate in appeal. The bouquet is redolent of blackberry, cherry confit, exotic spice, cola and dark chewing tobacco. The mouthfeel shows a higher degree of tannic astringency, however that may come from the oak. Poggio alle Mura sees up to 80% aged in barrique for two years and the rest in botte grand. I'd suggest giving it a few more years to let that firmness subside and soften." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Poggio all'Oro" Riserva DOCG 2010

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio all’Oro” Riserva DOCG 2010

Large Brunello riserva from the same vintage, beautifully balanced and with a classic spicy fragrance. In the taste typical blackberry and sour cherry aromas. Opulent and rich in extract, full and enveloping, with a powerful tannin density and plenty of stamina in the finals. SUPERIORE.DE

"Only made in the best vintages, this wine represents the pinnacle of Castello Banfi's quality production. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio All'Oro is a stunning achievement and will serve as a benchmark for this estate's future endeavors. The bouquet delivers both power and elegance with dried cherry, grilled herb and delicate layers of spice. This ensemble is seamless and balanced. The wine makes a statement without speaking in a loud voice and that's what I like best about this Brunello. In the mouth, this young wine offers a fresh fruit presentation that promises to evolve slowly. The solid tannic structure and the wine's fresh acidity will also contribute to its longevity." Robert Parker

"A riserva with so much structure and tension. A full body that shows dried fruit and mushroom flavors. Walnut soil, too. So long and powerful. A glorious wine. Wine for the long term." James Suckling

About the winemakersCastello BanfiTuscany | Montalcino
    Castello Banfi

The beautiful Castello Banfi winery is not only the largest of its kind in Tuscany, it also uniquely combines tradition with modernity. The one in Sant'Angelo Scali, located near Montalcino, was founded in 1978 by the Italo-Americans John and Harry Mariani from New York. In the homeland of their grandfathers, the two brothers created a huge wine empire in close cooperation with the pioneer oenologist Dr. Ezio Rivella, who has since retired. After purchasing the almost 3,000 hectares of land, the Marianis selected the most preferred sites from different vineyards. Today the estate has a vineyard area of 850 hectares and is connected to a large restaurant and a wine cellar.

Castello Banfi was the first winery in the world to receive an award for its exceptional commitment to the environment and its strong social and ethical commitment. The breeding of new Sangiovese clones has also brought the company much recognition. The vineyards are mainly planted with Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, but also with Syrah and white varieties. The Swiss oenologist Rudy Buratty and the agronomist Maurizio Marmugi are responsible for the outstanding and continuous quality of the fifteen outstanding top wines. The interests of the owners are represented by Cristina Mariani-May and her cousin James Mariani. As General Manager, Enrico Viglierchio has carried out the comprehensive control of over 100 hectares of DOCG Montalcino vineyards. Each vineyard is considered individually and vinified separately. All the steps to be taken in the high-tech cellar - from the grape mill to fermentation and bottling - are computer-controlled. The steel and wooden barrels are developed by our own team of technicians.

Cristina Mariani-May succeeded years ago in initiating the rebirth of Brunello. She was instrumental in promoting the reputation of this truly royal wine as an important ambassador for Italy. In addition to the award-winning Brunello di Montalcino, the Chianti Classico from Banfi has also received many awards. SUPERIORE.DE

"Castello Banfi should be proclaimed the winner of all price categories. The estate of the Italian-American family Mariani offers something for every purse, the best kind is guaranteed."Gambero Rosso
