      “Pelofino” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Elisabetta Geppetti has created with the Pelofino a fruity and spicy cuvée of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Elegant aromas of dark fruit on the nose, wide and powerful on the palate, yet well balanced. A wine with an excellent value. SUPERIORE.DE

      Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2019

Deep dark red colour, beautiful fruit aromas of cherries and ripe, dark berries. The taste is balanced, complex, dense, full of finesse and with silky tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Morellino di Scansano is a bright and lively value wine that trusts its basic identity to cherry, dried raspberry and some wild bramble or rosemary essence. This is a lean and sprightly red wine that boats the freshness and intensity of Sangiovese along with the wild fruit and blue flower sensations that are most often associated with this mighty Tuscan grape. I could see a happy pairing with oven-cooked pasta or lasagna." Robert Parker

"A red with plum and cherry character, as well as hints of terracotta and rust. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tangy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. This is always a good, go-to red."James Suckling

Poggio Argentato is a beautifully balanced white with a French touch. In the nose a multi-layered bouquet with fine herbal notes. On the palate strong, fresh, elegant and carried by a mineral acidity, citrus tones in the aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Poggio Argentato is a fresh white that benefitted from a cool May and June and plenty of rain in August. The blend is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Petit Manseng, 10% Traminer and 5% Semillon. Fermented in tonneaux, the wine has a very precise bouquet, although the mouthfeel still needs to take on more volume and weight. There are nice little aromas of white flowers and honeysuckle. Give this one a few more months in the bottle to take on more weight before serving it along side a plate of spaghetti with vongole and chopped parsley." Robert Parker

"This is a Tuscan white wine with a huge following, and deservedly so. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Argentato is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminer and Semillon. The wine broaches a mid-weight texture, showing some creamy density and waxiness, but it ultimately pulls back to a lean-bodied approach that is pushed forward by the wine's bright and snappy acidity. Radiant, precise dessert wine from the varieties Traminer, Sauvignon and Semillon from the sun-blessed Maremma in the south of Tuscany. Precious and delicious, the wine opens with a bright golden colour with amber reflections. In the bouquet hints of dried fruits, honey, pressed rose petals and candied almonds. Soft sweetness on the palate, wonderfully flattering finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Featuring the artwork of the promising young artist Clara (daughter to Fattoria le Pupille owner Elisabetta Geppetti) on its front label, the 2013 SolAlto is an air-dried dessert wine with a bright and luminous appearance. The grapes in the blend include Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, and the wine is released in a 375-milliliter bottle. This is a viscous and rich expression with dried apricot and honey, backed by almond and baked apple with cinnamon. This vintage is viscous and rich, and perfect for an apple pie a la mode." "A bright, fruity wine with cherries and walnuts, as well as hints of burnt lemon. It’s medium-bodied with pretty fruit and a fruity finish. Hints of bark add to the complexity. Delicious and balanced." James Suckling

"The Fattoria le Pupille 2017 Morellino di Scansano Riserva is a beautifully enriched and nicely concentrated expression. This hot vintage red opens to dark cherry, blackberry, dark earth and tobacco. The wine shows good balance, despite all the scorching temperatures and rainless weeks of the summer growing season. This Riserva puts forth a delicate and subdued personalty against all odds. It speaks of the hard work achieved to tame the unruly intensity and exaggerated richness of the vintage. It would pair with an autumnal dish such as risotto with porcini mushrooms." Robert Parker

"Tasted from vat, the Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente is an elegant expression of Sangiovese with just a hint of the freewheeling wildness that characterizes the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. The wine delivers cherry, wild rose, forest fruit and blueberry. Beyond those primary tones are integrated notes of spice and mild tobacco. Deep dark ruby red. Floral nose with a lot of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. On the palate smooth and elegant with a wonderful depth and structure. Then again herbs, in addition violets, some plums and a touch of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you, until it merges into a very long and harmonious finish with an impressive presence and finesse. One of the great wines of Italy full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE

"The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it." Robert Parker

"A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It’s racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. • Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

      Syrah Toscana IGT 2015

Le Pupille has a new wine. A long cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its completion in this crescence. This 100% Syrah builds on everything that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained world renown. The best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, clever and innovative winemaking combined with a clearly recognizable signature and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.

The grapes for the first vintage (2015) of this exceptional wine come from the two estate vineyards Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler site, with just 5 hectares, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500l clay amphoras. The grapes of the east-facing vineyard La Vigna del Palo are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then married and matured in 300l barriques for another 10 months before the wines are then bottle aged for another 22 months.

Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. In the nose fresh notes of red berry fruits and spices, hints of black pepper. On the palate it is complex, with gripping tannin, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has a great storage potential and is for us the classic meditation wine in appearance and expression. SUPERIORE.DE

"Densely woven, with super-fine tannin, dark berry fruit, hints of brown bread, dried goya berries, brine syrup and a slightly iodine note: an elegant, special wine that has absolutely nothing in common with the Syrah plants of the Northern Rhône, even if this is repeatedly claimed. I drank the 2015 at Milan's Restaurant Vun, where two-star chef Andrea Aprea served it with a shoulder of lamb and malted barley. Phenomenal." Dr. Jens Priewe (weinkenner.de)

"Mineral and spicy bouquet, very elegant and calming, yet very broad with earthy and tobacco notes with iron notes reminiscent of blood. Surprisingly fruity on the palate, but clear as a bell, almost pure and crisp, completely different style, very exciting and with a lot of finesse. A top Maremma Syrah." Weinwisser

"After a little aeration delicate aromas of dark forest fruits, flowers, spicy and smoky notes; polished in the mouth, the fine-grained tannins and the airy acidity in balance, shows race and cut to the final. Elegant, full of esprit and a delightful proof that a Syrah from Tuscany cannot be compared to any other Syrah (or Shiraz) in the world". Vinum

"This debut vintage is a classic expression of Syrah. With fruit drawn from 34-year-old vines, fermented both in terracotta amphorae (acquired from the Manetti family of Fontodi fame) and open-top tonneaux, then aged ten months in French barrique, the 2015 Le Pupille shows all the typical notes of Syrah and a nice roundness of tannin. It is a very tight wine that is layered and beautiful, carefully crafted to avoid reduction. This new line should be a winner for years to come. Congratulations." Robert Parker

"This is a new wine from Le Pupille and made in amphorae and large barrels. The aromas are a dead ringer for Côte-Rôtie! So much smoked meat, spice and dark fruit. Full-bodied, juicy and succulent with plenty of dark fruit and then a long and flavorful finish that shows gamey and earthy undertones. Clean and vivid. 3,000 bottles produced." James Suckling

It has a great storage potential and is the classic meditation wine for us in appearance and expression. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Fattoria le Pupille 2016 Le Pupille is an ambitious expression of amphorae-fermented Syrah. It presents cherry and dark plum, with earthy tones followed by tarry spice and campfire smoke. The meaty intensity normally associated with the Syrah grape is replaced here by plump and rich dark fruit. Give the wine a little extra time in your cellar to evolve and unwind." Robert Parker

"Fabulous complexity on the nose with crushed blackberries, chocolate, walnuts and tar. Lots of dried flowers. Full body. Layered and creamy with superb tannin texture and length. Hints of stone. Half made in amphora and half in casks. Aged one year in old casks." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Le Pupille
    Tuscany | Maremma
    Le Pupille

The name of the winery has nothing to do with the eyes of the owner, because "pupil" means in Tuscan parlance as much as "hill". On one of the numerous elevations of the Maremma near Istia d'In the early 1980s, Elisabetta Geppetti, mother of five children, took over an abandoned farmhouse with a manor house east of Grosseto and restored it in the typical Tuscan style. The winemaker and art historian is full of energy and joie de vivre. With her wines produced at Fattoria Le Pupille, she has not only created a masterpiece that combines tradition with modernity, but has also made a declaration of love for the region that came to be honoured late. Elisabethta's noble drops reflect the terroir of the Maremma precisely, but also impress with elegance and finesse.

The agile winemaker, supported by her eldest daughter Clara, is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Morellino di Scansano, for which she was president until recently. Together with her partner, the company, which is known as the "La Signora del Morellino" the landowner also described two restaurants. Elisabetta Geppetti was already active in this area when the Denomination Morellino di Scansano was founded at the end of the seventies. But although it was to fill its first vintage a little later, it did not gain complete control of the winery until 1985, when it was re-founded. Since the quality of the wine increased steadily from then on, the fame also increased. Today the 420-hectare estate cultivates 75 hectares of vineyards spread over different parts of the Maremma.

With the market launch of Saffredi, the showpiece of the house, from a single vineyard near Magliano, Fattoria Le Pupille hurried from success to success from 1987 onwards. None other than the old master Giacomo Tachis had the first vintage of the "Tachis", built according to all the rules of the art. "supertuscan" was launched. No less excellent is the Morellino di Scansano from the top location Poggio Valente. Since the turn of the millennium, the Bordeaux star oenologist Christian Le Sommer has been responsible for winemaking as Riccardo Cottarella's successor. The exquisite wines of the estate have not only found their way into luxury restaurants and exquisite vinotheques in their own country, but also around the globe. Numerous awards, such as the 2006 award from the magazine "The gourmet" award given "Winemaker of the year"The high status of the wine house is documented by the SUPERIORE.DE

"There is always a single face that stands for a region: a producer with the charisma and communicative skills to act as an ambassador to bring wines produced in a relatively obscure region to the world stage. In the Maremma, this person is Elisabetta Geppetti."Robert Parker
