Chianti Classico DOCG 2021 (BIO)
Vibrant ruby colour with light violet reflections, rich fruity aromas on the nose, typically of wild berries and sour cherries. Fresh, balanced and well-structured on the palate, with silky tannins and spicy accents. An energetic classic of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"A classic and as if from a single mould; cherries, blackberries, the juicy vein and the charm are pleasing, the fine tannin and acid bite invigorate." Weinwisser
"Almost medium ruby red colour. Dense and rather closed on the nose and a little reductive. Great intensity and purity of fruit, with plenty of tangy acidity and fine tannins. Impressive." Jancis Robinson
"Boasting black cherry, blackberry, violet and earth flavors, this rich, dark red shows fine balance, with a light grip of tannins on the finish. This is more about the fruit, so very drinkable now." Wine Spectator
"A powerful and flavoursome Chianti Classico with aromas of red plums, herbs, mushrooms and some citrus peel. Medium-bodied with plenty of bite thanks to the chewy tannins. Made from organically grown grapes." James Suckling
"The Chianti Classico 2021 is a prime example of excellence. Pure, bright and wonderfully lively, the 2021 possesses outstanding energy and exceptional balance. Crushed red/purple-coloured fruit, rose petals, sweet spices and orange peel burst with excitement. This is a rare Chianti Classico that I would cellar for a year or two. Outstanding." Vinous
"As the high temperatures in mid-August stopped the Sangiovese from ripening, he harvested about a week later than usual, reports Marco Ricasoli. He also introduced a sorting table to remove dried or green berries and pieces of stem. The result is a flawless and refined Annata. It has a deep purple colour and an equally youthful bouquet with aromas of wild berries, black plums and a hint of wood spices. In the mouth, it is full of spicy dark red cherries, carried by a lively acidity and framed by tannins with a suede structure. Winter mint and liquorice root linger on the finish. With its admirable complexity, it surpasses its category." Decanter

Chianti Classico DOCG 2022 (BIO)
Montegrossi's Chianti Classico remains true to the estate's style every year with its deep violet colour and initially youthful, reductive nose. On the palate, it shows its potential with a fascinating build-up of tension and fresh fruit of black cherries and blackberries. The supple tannins are refined and polished, but it's the juicy, savoury notes and tangy acidity that really make the wine sing. An energetic classic of the appellation, whose average it surpasses every year. Great ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Geremia 2018 is outstanding. A wine full of energy and finesse, the 2018 Geremia is more about persistence than volume. Blueberry, blackberry, lavender, liquorice and scorched earth are abundant. In 2018, Geremia is a wine of tension and restraint. Its best days are still far in the future. "Impenetrable dark ruby. I can see the vintage with the oak having a bigger impact on the elegant fruit than is normally the case. That is not to say there isn’t plenty of concentrated black fruit contoured by savoury oak and a touch of undergrowth with just a hint of tar. Long, tangy and generous, with fine, sandpapery tannins. Elegant yet with plenty of stuffing, and ready now." Jancis Robinson
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino 2018 is outstanding. Silky and medium-bodied, the 2018 is a wine with more finesse than power. “Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Vigna San Marcellino Gran Selezione is both youthfully fresh and ripe and complexly muscular. It contains a healthy dose of the deeply coloured Pugnitello grape, and on the nose liquorice, tarragon and broom mingle with lush plum and subtle roasted aromas that are highly seductive in their complexity. Deep, taut and lively on the palate, loaded with black cherry and rich, velvety tannins. The texture is silky, while subtle chalky notes and a salty minerality give it plenty of energy and lead it into a juicy, refreshing finish. “Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling ruby red. Complex and enveloping bouquet of rich cherry, black forest berries, violets, tobacco, tar, liquorice, incense and smoke in the background. The single-vineyard Chianti Classico San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins, of exemplary harmony and a savoury, slightly salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Seductive berry aromas, nuances of spices and dried flowers, multi-faceted; precisely crafted on the palate, the acidity and tight tannins in harmony, the finish complex and pleasantly mineral, with plenty of character and length." Vinum
"Rich ruby with a dark core. Shows pronounced spicy notes on the nose, of sandalwood and cardamom, then lots of blackberry and dark cherry. Multilayered and present on the palate, grippy, hearty tannin, shows good tension, salty, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Expressive aromas of cherries, blueberries, chocolate, spices and smoked meat. The texture on the palate is creamy, with velvety tannins, showing energy and a lively violet edge towards the finish." Decanter
"This opulent Chianti Classico is highlighted by blackberry, black currant and tar, with toasty oak accents. Starts out smooth, then the dense tannins emerge. Remains long and intense on the aftertaste, which is marked by the dark fruit and iron." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is potent, but also shockingly closed for this dry, warm year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2017 as it needs quite a bit of time to be at its best. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, cloves and licorice all build into the huge, explosive finish. There's tremendous substance here, not to mention tons of sheer character." Vinous

“Ridolfo” Rosso Toscano IGT 2015 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi's latest and strictly limited creation (only 1,659 magnum bottles were filled) was named after Ridolfo, an ancestor of the family. The deliberate composition of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Pugnitello symbolises the combination of tradition and modernity and at the same time impressively represents the terroir of the Chianti hills.
Dark ruby red, refined bouquet of blackberry, dried plum and eucalyptus. On the palate then with a firm, taut core, layers of sour cherry, spicy notes such as pepper and liquorice, powerful as it progresses and slightly balsamic at the same time. The well-proportioned acidity and the characteristic tannins lead this fleshy, muscular red into a furious, long-lasting final. A wine full of character and very independent! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, almost impenetrable ruby. Initially shy on the nose of graphite, delicate noble wood, a hint of bitter chocolate, light pepper spice, ripe cherries, blackberries and a pinch of leather in the finish. Opens up on the palate dense and full of tension, with present spice in the core, rich fruit, noble use of wood supports the ensemble, finishes very long with tightly woven tannin and currently minimal drying, still young, will age excellently." Falstaff
"This red is a beautiful expression of varietal character, with pure cherry and strawberry fruit. Firmly structured, with accents of menthol, earth, iron and tobacco, ending in a long aftertaste emphasizing the fruit." Wine Spectator
"The 2015 Ridolfo is a new Cabernet Sauvignon/Pugnitello blend from Marco Ricasoli bottled only in magnum. Vibrant and finely sculpted, the 2015 impresses right out of the gate. A whole range of savory aromatics, lavender, spice, licorice and mocha open with time in the glass. Sweet rose petal and cinnamon appear later, adding brightness and lift. Cabernet Sauvignon and Pugnitello are not obvious varieties to blend, as they are, on paper, more similar than complementary. Even so, the combination works so well. I can't wait to see how this ages. The 2015 is a total knock-out!" Vinous

"Rich, deep dark ruby-violet. Opens with notes of smoke and cigars, plus some pepper and cardamom, lots of rich blackberry fruit. Shows tight, well-placed tannin on the palate, opens up in many layers, fresh, crisp fruit, builds up rich pressure on the back end, still a bit rough on the final." Falstaff
"An intense red wine with aromas of black cherries, blackberries, graphite, tar and toasted oak, supported by a dense tannic matrix. Characterised by a lively acidity that keeps things focused and taut on the finish, this wine should develop slowly." Wine Spectator
"The 2016 Ridolfo is a stellar follow-up to the 2015. Dark, rich and super-expressive, the 2016 offers a combination of power and finesse that is immediately captivating. Espresso, blackberry, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice, lavender and cloves are some of the many nuances that gradually open in the glass. The 2016 is approachable now with aeration, but I would cellar it for a few years. Readers lucky enough to grab the 2016 will not be disappointed. It's a magnificent wine in every way." Vinous

"Inky, dark purple-ruby. While exuding a deep, layered blackberry and cherry perfume, with the most understated yet present oak note imaginable. After aeration, there is a whiff of Médoc, but the palate is less dry and more fruit-driven than you’d expect from a bordeaux. Soft, drying tannins and lots of succulent acidity." Jancis Robinson
"Dark, elegant ruby colour with a delicately brightening rim. Initially somewhat closed on the nose, reminiscent of sealing wax and plenty of spice, needs some time to open up. On the palate with a creamy entry and clear fruit, opens up with savoury, grippy tannins, present and dense." Falstaff
"The 2017 Ridolfo is an intoxicating, exotic wine. Lush and opulent, with bright acids and almost seamless tannins, the 2017 Ridolfo is a very special wine. Mocha, espresso, liquorice, menthol, pine and dried herbs all come together in a strong, deeply structured wine. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pugnitello is remarkable. The only thing the 2017 needs is time." Vinous

“Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO) · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Vigna San Marcellino is a convincing wine with enormous ageing potential every year. SUPERIORE.DEread more- Grape Varieties: 90% Sangiovese, 10% Pugnitello

"Intense, sparkling ruby with a light garnet rim. Intense, multi-layered nose, shows notes of blackberry, dark cherries, behind it cardamom and cloves. Compact and rich in attack and course, very well integrated, fleshy tannins, lots of ripe fruit, juicy and long, great fun." Falstaff
"The 2012 Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino shows the intensity of the year in its radiant, overripe fruit. At almost five years old, the 2012 is showing the first signs of aromatic development. I would prefer to drink it over the next ten years." Vinous

"Deep and impenetrable. Intense and compact nose, shows notes of blackberry and raspberry, beetroot and coriander in the background. Powerful and gripping in the attack and course, opens with dark berry fruit, very powerful, lots of dense tannin that is wonderfully supple at the same time, long final with notes of tobacco." (5th place out of 100 "Best 100 under 100€") Falstaff
"Aromas of orange peel, bark and cherries follow a full body with chewy tannins. A juicy finish. The wood is still evident here, but it will recover in a year or two." James Suckling
"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is a dazzling, explosive wine characterised by its aromatic presence, intensity of colour and overall depth. Dark red and purple fruits, exoticism, spice and leather are boldly outlined in this vibrant, stunning Chianti Classico that comes to life in the glass. The tannins are there, but they are almost masked by the sheer richness of the fruit. What a stunningly beautiful wine this is. After three warm vintages, the 2013 was a welcome change." Vinous

"Sparkling ruby with a slight violet hue. Rich nose with notes of ripe blackberries and dark cherries, lightly tarry in the background. Juicy and present in attack and course, very well integrated tannin, in addition appealing sweet melting, firm pressure." Falstaff
"A broad, dense red wine with aromas of ripe plums, black cherries and blackberries, framed by lively acidity and powerful tannins. Accents of earth, red chalk and tobacco intermingle. All components are properly proportioned, but it will take some time to fully integrate. Nice length and freshness. Best from 2022." Wine Spectator
"A selection from the San Marcellino vineyard, which includes a plot of 50-year-old vines. The soil here is extremely stony and consists mainly of Alberese - a hard marl rich in calcium carbonate that tends to produce deeply coloured wines. This wine has a lot going for it. Tantalising red and blackcurrants are underpinned by toasty aromas and spice. The palate is rich and mouth-filling without being heavy, with velvety structured tannins. The purity of the fruit is maintained throughout and the wine finishes with a delicious salinity." Decanter
"The Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino 2015 is fabulous. Sweet red cherry, red plum, mint, sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, liquorice, blood orange and dried herbs race from the glass. Sangiovese is so expressive. Yet the 2015 is a wine of restraint. I would cellar it for at least a couple of years, as it has clearly closed up after bottling. Its energy and vivacity are remarkable." Vinous

Modernity meets tradition – this could be the motto of the Rocca di Montegrossi winery, located in the heart of Chianti Classico. In Monti, the highest village in the production area not far from Gaiole, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi - a descendant of that noble house that wrote important chapters in Chianti history - has been rigorously and carefully cultivating the local grape varieties Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, Pugnitello and Malvasia Bianca del Chianti since the early 1980s. The wine cellar, renovated at the turn of the millennium, combines traditional techniques with the best new technologies.
The total area of the estate reaches 100 hectares, of which 20 hectares are dedicated to vineyards and 20 hectares to olive groves with fruit trees. Since Marco relies almost exclusively on the Coreggiolo variety of stone fruit, the house's high-quality edible oil is made from a single variety. The vineyards, all on gentle slopes on limestone hills with a medium-heavy soil and a south-southeast exposure, are situated at an altitude of between 340 and 510 metres above sea level. Sangiovese occupies the largest part of the cultivated area, followed at a great distance by Merlot.
The vines and olive trees of Rocca di Montegrossi are cultivated according to officially certified biological rules. The estate is also ecologically friendly in other respects. For example, rainwater is collected to avoid wasting valuable drinking water. In the wine cellar, part of the heating is solar-powered; electrical energy is obtained exclusively from renewable sources.
The winery houses large oak barrels and barriques, which are used in different ways depending on the type of wine, under the oenological advice of Attilio Pagli. With the Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino and the Bordeaux blend Geremia, the descendant of the famous Tuscan aristocratic house produces two outstanding wines. SUPERIORE.DE
