• Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO)

      Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO)

With the 2017 vintage, Querciabella presents a more mature, opulent Chianti Classico than in previous years. Wonderful scent of sweet raspberries, notes of tobacco and violets. Enormous density, compact structure, robust tannins, youthful and fresh temperament, coupled with a certain finesse. Ends long with notes of juicy red berries. SUPERIORE.DE

"Shining Ruby. Beautiful, open-hearted nose, of ripe cherries and raspberries, rich fruit bouquet, delicate spice, appealing. On the palate of young cranberries, fruity course, juicy and clear, stretches very finely over the tongue to the final. Falstaff

"Youthful ruby. Classy nose of sweet red fruit, oak and stones and hints of mint. Elegant, juicy and almost a little linear. A wine that contradicts the torrid vintage." Jancis Robinson

"Gorgeous freshness here both on the nose and palate. Aromas of pepper, sage blossom, and lavender lead to a mouthful of red currants. Full-bodied but balanced in its proportioned, this is light on its feet with plenty of vitality." Decanter

"This is a little jammy with lots of ripe fruit and both blueberry and chocolate character. Rich and flavorful, but still fresh and energetic. Shows the warmth of the vintage. From biodynamically grown grapes." James Suckling

"The 2017 Chianti Classico is bright, floral and beautifully lifted, with lovely red berry and rose petal character. Pliant and supple, with terrific balance, the Querciabella 2017 is one of the more refined, restrained Chianti Classicos readers will come across in this vintage, with Radda very much driving the personality of the wine in its aromatic and red fruit profile. The 2017 finishes with terrific energy and nuance." Vinous

    • Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2017 (BIO)

Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2017 (BIO)

Querciabella's Riserva is a great blend of the three best Chianti sites in Greve, Radda and Gaiole. Pure elegance on all levels: Rich ruby garnet, subtle aromas of cherry, anise and tobacco, joined by notes of jasmine and violet. Pleasantly medium-bodied on the palate, ripe black cherries and herbs, very typical of this terroir. Balanced fruit, the structure is dominated by obvious, superbly integrated tannins and remarkably perfect acidity. Intense and persistent with enough extract for sure storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, sparkling ruby. Fragrant, appealing nose with ripe cherry, some goji berry, behind it fine mint. Juicy and clear in approach and course, grippy, dense tannin, shows fine melting, long finish." Falstaff

"Querciabella's 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is fabulous. Sweet perfumed aromatics open up first as this silky, mid-weight Riserva shows off its allure. The warm, dry vintage notwithstanding, Querciabella turned out a gracious, mid-weight Riserva that is incredibly elegant. The 2017 changes constantly in the glass, revealing different sides of its personality over time. It's the perfect wine for the dinner table." Vinous

Camartina 2010 presents itself sparkling ruby, with opulent fragrant bouquet of cloves, lots of blackberry fruit, some chocolate. On the palate very much juicy fruit, spicy notes, underlaid by grippy tannin, very clear and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2010 Camartina is one of the most beautiful versions of this wine I have tasted in some time. Layered and vibrant on the palate, the 2010 impresses for its finesse and nuance. Freshly cut flowers, mint, dark red berries and graphite all meld together in a wine of exceptional refinement. Today, the aromas and flavors are naturally not fully expressive, but another few years should work wonders. The cool, late-ripening season yielded a Camartina of understated class and pedigree. This is a fabulous showing." Antonio Galloni

"A powerful red wine with an abundance of berry, dried fruits and hints of vanilla on the nose and palate. Full body, with chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Needs at least two or three years of bottle age to come together. Made from biodynamically grown grapes." James Suckling

"A vivid, fresh style, whose berry and cherry flavors are focused and augmented by tobacco, underbrush and iron notes. Tight and intense, presenting a long, mineral-inflected finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese." Wine Spectator

"The 2010 Camartina offers many beautiful surprises. This blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese is a structured and powerful wine, but it offers elegance and balance as well. This classic vintage has done its part to shape a wine that offers bright fruit intensity, delineated aromas of blueberry and spice, and a richly velvety sensation in the mouth. Rich aromas of black and red berries such as black cherry and blueberry, joined by notes of ripe plum and tamarind. With further aeration then multi-layered notes of ivy, forest floor and freshly cut bark with hints of leather, sweet tobacco and liquorice. Great its Tuscan identity full of energy and liveliness. SUPERIORE.DE

“Palafreno” Rosso Toscana IGT 2012 (BIO)

Elegance is the strength: 100% Merlot from Central Tuscany, which already offers great drinking pleasure today, but whose complexity of taste will increase enormously as it matures. Brilliant colour, a varied bouquet and a firm body with balanced proportions as well as a hearty taste with a long, elegant aftertaste are its unmistakable characteristics and enable it to compete with the very large Merlots of Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE

"A balanced and easy wine with dried berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Full body, fresh acidity and a clean finish. Made from organically grown grapes." James Suckling

"The 2012 Palafreno, 100% Merlot from the Ruffoli sub-zone of Greve, is superb. High-altitude, hillside vineyards confer grace and nuance to a Merlot built on exquisite finesse. Sweet plum, mocha, rose petal and white pepper add gorgeous aromatic lift on the silky, sensual finish. Readers should expect an understated Merlot that emphasizes elegance over power." Antonio Galloni

"100% Merlot from a cooler, high-altitude north to north-west facing site in Greve. Its pure, pristine, clearly delineated aromatics and flavours of black raspberry, plum, blackberry and spice are simply gorgeous - a lovely sappy, vibrant style of Merlot with a rich but taut feel. In some ways, this is more like Cabernet Franc than Merlot. It was picked at just the right level of ripeness: not too ripe and not too green, and therefore has beautiful poise and balance." • "Palafreno" Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 (BIO)

“Palafreno” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 (BIO)

Energetic, incredibly multi-layered Merlot of the extra class. Ethereal bouquet of plum, black cherry, menthol and spices. Very rich in nuances on the palate, opulent to expressive, at second glance then smooth, almost elegant. Almost unbeatable in complexity, depth and richness of finesse, in the next years he will reveal more and more of his repertoire. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby red. Clear and fragrant nose of blackberry, cherry and mulberry, with spicy components (quendel, tyhmian). On the palate it shows dense, firm tannin, clear fruit, in the final again emphasized spicy notes, firm pressure." Falstaff

"This is a beautiful merlot showing blackberry, black-olive and fresh-herb character. Full-bodied with very chewy yet polished tannins and a long and flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2015 Palafreno is one of the more understated Tuscan Merlots readers will come across. This site, in the Ruffoli district of Greve, at 400 meters above sea level, yields a distinctly savory, nuanced Merlot that emphasizes energy and nuance over power, all of which make it a truly special and distinctive wine. Even in this warm year, Palafreno needs time in bottle to soften the tannins." Vinous

Very nuanced on the palate, opulent to expressive, at second glance then supple, downright elegant. In complexity, depth and richness of finesse almost unbeatable, in the next years he will reveal more and more of his repertoire. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant, rich ruby. Very well developed fruit in the nose, full of blackberry and wild raspberry. On the palate dense tannin, fresh fruit, then unfortunately a little rough in the final." Falstaff

"A very solid red with blackberries, cherries and crushed stones that follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and loads of fruit, yet always tight and reserved." James Suckling

"The 2016 Palafreno, 100% Merlot from the estate vineyards in Greve, brings together so much of what makes the Querciabella wines so appealing. In the glass the 2016 is deep and vibrant, yet also remains light on its feet. A whole range of mineral and savory notes confer freshness. The 2016 spent 18 months in French oak, with 25% new wood. It's another stellar wine from Querciabella." Vinous

Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO) · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

With the 2017 vintage, Querciabella presents a riper, more opulent Chianti Classico than in previous years. Wonderful scent of sweet raspberries, notes of tobacco and violets. Enormous density, compact construction, robust tannins, youthful fresh temperament, paired with a certain finesse. Ends long with notes of juicy red berries. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby. Beautiful, open-hearted nose, of ripe cherries and raspberries, rich fruit bouquet, delicate spice, appealing. On the palate of young cranberries, fruity course, juicy and clear, stretches very fine over the tongue to the final." Falstaff

Batar exudes elegant aromas of jasmine, peach and sweet tropical fruits and a lively minerality. With great finesse and opulence, Batar secures its numerous admirers and is undoubtedly one of the best white wines in Italy! SUPERIORE.DE

"Creamy in texture, with well-integrated oak, this shows off buttery peach, apple, honey and floral aromas and flavors. Fine length." Jancis Robinson

"The nose is very involved showing green apples, preserved lemons, almond granita and vanilla. Full body, medium acidity and a creamy finish." James Suckling

"Querciabella's 2015 Batàr (Chardonnay/Pinot Bianco) is very delicate and restrained, especially within the context of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, orange peel and mint all develop nicely in the glass, but it is the wine's persistence that stands out most. The 2015 is one of the most polished, gracious Batàrs I can remember tasting." Antonio Galloni

"The dried-pear and toasty-oak aromas make this a very distinctive white. Ripe and generous, but with more than enough freshness. Polished, long finish. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling

"The 2016 Batàr is superb. Candied lemon peel, mint, chamomile and lightly tropical notes are all laced together. In the glass, the 2016 has a real sense of phenolic intensity that offers a striking counter to the floral aromatics and expressive, layered fruit. The 2016 is 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Blanc, much of that younger plantings of the Gouges clones of Pinot Blanc sourced in Burgundy. Today, the Batàr is tightly wound and piercing in its brightness. Another few years in bottle should do the trick." Antonio Galloni

“Camartina” Rosso Toscana IGT 2010 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC

With further aeration then multi-layered notes of ivy, forest floor and freshly cut bark with hints of leather, sweet tobacco and liquorice. The full and silky body is framed by firm but well-integrated tannins supported by excellent acidity. Then, just before the long finish, ripe black fruits enriched by nutmeg and sweet spices. Great its Tuscan identity full of energy and liveliness. SUPERIORE.DE

It was picked at just the right level of ripeness: not too ripe and not too green, and therefore has beautiful poise and balance." • "Batàr" Bianco Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO)
6 Bottles in OWC

“Batàr” Bianco Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO) · 6 Bottles in OWC

Batar exudes elegant aromas of jasmine, peach and sweet tropical fruits and a lively minerality. With great finesse and opulence, Batar secures its numerous admirers and is undoubtedly one of the best white wines in Italy! SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Camartina" Rosso Toscana IGT 2011 (BIO)
6 Bottles in OWC

“Camartina” Rosso Toscana IGT 2011 (BIO) · 6 Bottles in OWC

Camartina presents itself sparkling ruby, with opulent fragrant bouquet of cloves, lots of blackberry fruit, some chocolate. On the palate very much juicy fruit, spicy notes, underlaid by grippy tannin, very clear and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby with violet shimmer. Opened with a fine spicy note of cinnamon and cloves, with some cherry in the background. Juicy and salty in the base and course, opens with a pithy, slightly sandy tannin, firm pressure in the finish." Falstaff

"The 2011 Camartina is rich, layered and exquisite in the glass. Fine, silky tannins provide the backdrop as this super-refined, polished Tuscan red shows off its personality. These hillside vineyards above Greve often yield wines of total finesse. That is certainly the case here. The 2011 Camartina isn't a blockbuster, instead it is a wine that impresses for its balance and overall harmony." Antonio Galloni

"A dense, rich red with dried-berry, orange-peel and chocolate character. Full body, soft, silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish." James Suckling

    • "Camartina" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO)
6 Bottles in OWC

“Camartina” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO) · 6 Bottles in OWC

Camartina 2016 has exceptional finesse and elegance. Elegant, deep ruby red. Rich aromas of black and red berries such as black cherry and blueberry, joined by notes of ripe plum and tamarind. With further aeration then multi-layered notes of ivy, forest floor and freshly cut bark with hints of leather, sweet tobacco and liquorice. The full and silky body is framed by firm but well-integrated tannins supported by excellent acidity. Then, just before the long finish, ripe black fruits enriched by nutmeg and sweet spices. Great its Tuscan identity full of energy and liveliness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Shiny, dense ruby. Opens on the nose with fine spicy notes, cinnamon blossom and clove, followed by cassis and plum. Substantial and powerful on the attack, opens with many layers of present tannin, lots of juicy berry fruit." Falstaff

"Very pretty and precise with tight tannins and polish. It's linear and compact with blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry character. Racy and polished." James Suckling

"The 2016 Camartina is superb. As always, Camartina is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese, all from Greve's Ruffoli district, where Querciabella is located. At this stage in its development, the Camartina is driven by Sangiovese in its red-toned fruit, aromatics and acid profile. The 2016 is vibrant, saline and full of energy. I am so intrigued to see how it develops in bottle." Vinous

    About the winemakersQuerciabellaTuscany | Chianti
    Querciabella

Only one hectare of vines and a few old farm buildings belonged to the Agricola Querciabella when the Milanese family Cossia Castiglioni bought the farm in 1972. It then took just two years for the company, which comes from the steel sector "quality fanatics" Giuseppe Cossia Castiglioni had the first bottles bottled. Today the estate, located on the Ruffoli hill near Greve in Chianti Classico, is one of the most prestigious wine producers in Tuscany.

The farm, now managed by Sebastiano Cossa Castiglioni, son of the founder, covers 74 hectares of vineyards in Chianti Classico and 32 hectares in a farm acquired in 1997 in the Maremma. The partly newly planted areas are planted with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Merlot and Syrah. Since 1988 with organic viticulture and since the turn of the millennium with biodynamic viticulture, the Querciabella estate has been combining sustainable agriculture with the highest level of wine enjoyment. The makers even do without the use of blue copper and sulphur permitted in organic viticulture. The vineyards in the upper region of the Ruffoli Hill are already reacting to the impulses given to the soil by consistent, near-natural cultivation.

Sebastiano not only purchased stainless steel fermenters and numerous new barriques, but also engaged Guido de Santi, one of Italy's best oenologists. The Chianti Classico team, in particular, has for some time been using more careful vinification methods in order to pay even greater tribute to the individual characteristics of the grapes.

The ambition of the Querciabella winery is still very high: Chianti Classico, Palafreno (pure Merlot) and the Cuvée Camartina are particularly good. But also the white Batar is every year so good (and durable) that it is probably the best white wine of Central Tuscany for some wine connoisseurs. We can all be sure that the special characteristics of all labels will continue to be carefully worked out in the Tuscan top winery in the future. (superiore.de)

"This winery is a fascination. Over the years, it has proven many times that it is capable not only of producing excellent wines, but also extremely innovative ones."Gambero Rosso
