      “Taffetà" Colorino Toscana IGT 2011

Taffetà is one of the richest, most opulent and most interesting wines of Chianti Classico. A pure Colorino - rare and ingenious. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Colorino Taffe Ta', Poggiopiano's 100% Colorino, is a real stunner. Inky blue/purplish fruit, smoke, tar, graphite, licorice and menthol saturate the palate as this dramatic, ripe wine shows off its unmistakable personality. Colorino is most often seen as a blender with Sangiovese in Chianti Classico, rarely on its own. Poggiopiano's version is a real turn-on and one of the most unique, riveting wines being made in Tuscany today. The style is unctuous and opulent, yet all the elements fall into place effortlessly." Fattoria Poggiopiano

The Poggiopiano winery is a passionate advocate of indigenous Tuscan grape varieties. Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo are cultivated here - not because it's chic to reflect on old traditions. Rather, the Bartoli family has dedicated itself to this task from the very beginning. In Poggiopiano's best wine, Rosso di Sera, it is therefore almost inevitable that, in addition to Sangiovese, the Colorino variety also plays a major role. In 1993, the Bartolis had acquired the estate, situated on a hill about 300 metres high in San Casciano in the Val di Pesa near Florence. Her wish was not only to enjoy exquisite wines at home, but also to produce fine wines herself. Today five great wines, two grappas and one virgin olive oil are produced on the idyllically situated estate of Poggiopiano.

The estate has 17 hectares of land, nine of which are under vines and eight of which are planted with olive trees. Some of the vines are around 40 years old and the vineyards are fertilized organically. In addition to their own property, the Bartolis have leased twelve hectares of vineyards. Despite this increase in area, Fattoria Poggiopiano's production is moderate, due to a rigorous limitation of yields through selective grape harvesting.

It is the declared aim of the Bartoli family to devote themselves as carefully as possible to every phase of the production process - i.e. cultivation, care, harvesting and further processing of the grapes - in order to produce authentic wines. She is supported in her work by the oenologist Attilo Pagli and the agronomist Fabrizio Motard. The grape juices, which are the result of our joint work, are very well vinified and matured thanks to advanced cellar techniques. They are modern in design, have a very balanced effect and over the years increasingly reflect their regional roots. Wine critics regularly praise Poggiopiano's wines with very high ratings.
