“Le Volte” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

Fruity bouquet of sweet red berries, balsamic notes, fine aromas of tobacco and chocolate. On the palate very harmonious of dark cherries, flattering full taste, perfectly balanced tannins, fresh acidity and good length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2017 is the result of a particularly hot winegrowing year with little rainfall and presents itself in its usual intense ruby red colour. In the nose, pleasant aromas of ripe berries and spicy notes, supported on the palate by a crisp acidity and a balanced and velvety tannin structure, captivate the palate." Olga Fusari (Winemaker)

"Sparkling ruby-red violet. Clear and present nose, fine fruit, cherry and blackberry. Tannin on the palate with a good grip, after ripe plums, good pressure in the final." Falstaff

"Lots of big, dark fruit and a lack of water in the grapes define the unique personality of the 2017 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia. This is a highly extracted and succulent expression that delivers abundant fruit sweetness. The key to this vintage was waiting for proper ripeness, says estate manager and winemaker Axel Heinz. "The grapes continued to get smaller throughout the summer," he says. That lack of water resulted in very concentrated fruit, giving this entry-level wine a rich and modern feel as a result." • "Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia" Bolgheri DOC 2016

“Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia” Bolgheri DOC 2016

Bewitching scent of sweet, dark berries with a hint of cassis, cedar wood and antique leather. Very well balanced on the palate, of beautiful viscosity with an elegant melt. Fine-meshed tannin, restrained mineral tones and a wonderfully polished fruit accompany a remarkable finish. With all its elegance it shows pressure and strength and promises a long life with the right dosage of acid. A great wine from a great vintage! SUPERIORE.DE

"Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2016 has once again benefited from an exceptional vintage that highlights all the characteristics of the unique climate of Bolgheri. The wine glows dark and seduces the nose in a charming way with perfectly ripe red fruits and spices. It is full-bodied and pampers the palate with a variety of aromas and a wonderfully velvety tannin structure. A wine that can be enjoyed immediately, but which also has a great aging potential." Axel Heinz, Winemaker and Winery Director

"Dark, elegant ruby red. In the nose many dark berries, ripe Cassis, fine wood spice, medium expressiveness. It is very decisive in the mouth, unfolds immediately with balanced fruit and light salt, balanced, lays like a fine cloth on the tongue, tight tannin, in the finale strong pressure on the palate." Falstaff

"The 2016 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a dark, enveloping wine. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, menthol, licorice and spice infuse this succulent, voluptuous Serre Nuove. The 2016 is a relatively accessible Serre Nuove that will drink well upon release, its considerable richness notwithstanding." Antonio Galloni

"Supple and polished, exhibiting plum, black cherry, wild thyme and spice aromas and flavors. Solidly built, yet harmonious and approachable now, with hints of iron and cedar on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator

"Dense, deep red with aromas of cassis, spice and pepper and a taste of plums. Long, very expressive finish." Decanter

"This is a fantastic interpretation from Bolgheri. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is made with fruit from the same vineyard plots that go into the Bolgheri Superiore, only this is a second selection if you will. Generally speaking, fruit from the younger vines goes here. This wine gives us a very pretty glimpse of what we can expect of the high-end releases from this classic vintage. The fruit is rock solid, delineated, tonic and firm. The pleasure factor awarded here is very high thanks to the wine's inner softness, silky tannins and soothing extract. The bouquet is seamless and pristine." Robert Parker

"Appreciate the aromas of crushed stones and currants that follow through to a full body, velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of dark-berry and walnut character in the aftertaste. Beautiful second wine of Ornellaia. Already very attractive, but better after 2022." James Suckling

Poggio Alle Gazze is a very elegant Sauvignon Blanc with a small addition of Viognier. Fabulously fragrant with flowers, pineapple, peach and some mint. Refined and expressive on the palate, well structured and wonderfully long. SUPERIORE.DE

"The "entry white wine" with spicy Sauvignon Blanc flavours and a fine sea breeze whets the appetite for a plate of seafood and fish on the nearby coast. Fine, spicy and with good freshness as well as floral notes it continues on the full-bodied palate, the well supporting acidity gives the right portion of freshness." Weinwisser

    • "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016

      “Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016

With the Tuscan exceptional vintage 2016, Ornellaia also presents an exceptional wine. In complexity and precision, it again exceeds the quality of the very good previous year's vintage by a good length. 2016 presents itself more clearly, unambiguously and typically than any previous year.

Deep dark ruby red with a wonderful sheen. Rich bouquet of dark red small berries, some liquorice, tar, coffee and prune. On the palate it is explosive and yet distinguished with black fruits, dark spices and a delicate sweetness that enchant us over a long period of time and captivate us completely. A wine of terrific, multidimensional structure and concentration, straightforward, elegant and extremely long. SUPERIORE.DE

"2016 brought another successful vintage, highlighting all the benefits of the Bolgheri climate: plenty of sunshine without excessive heat, a dry summer for the perfect ripening and concentration of the grapes and only so much rain that no dry stress arose. All these elements together resulted in a wine with lush maturity and sparkling freshness. Opposing forces cause a feeling of racy density, which we like to call tension." Axel Heinz, Kellermeister und Weingutsdirektor

"La Tensione - the tension symbolizes this vintage. The wine also shows this on the palate: extremely sensitive nose with forest fruit aromas, filigree nuances of dried flowers and undergrowth; the tannins fine-grained and perfectly integrated, the finish multifaceted and ellenlang. It's exciting." Vinum

"Medium ruby red with dark reflections and a violet, softly watery edge. A vintage already elegant in name, which makes the attribute "Tensione" appear quite comprehensible due to the freshness and the print. The mineral character of the wine is already evident in the fragrance: subtle, earthy, with dark fruits, black pepper, cedar, blackberries and dark cherries. On the palate it scores with great structure, persistence and the eponymous tension curve, where the finely polished tannin together with
the racy, but finely spun acidity
      clings
well to the fruit. Stylistically, the 2016 is clearer, finer and more precise in the fruit."Weinwisser

"A rich, deep dark ruby with a violet shimmer. The nose shows spicy notes, tar, liquorice and cloves, ripe dark berry fruit. Close on the palate, very much present, well integrated tannin, has much good tension, crisp fruit, in the final long reverberation." Falstaff

"Black currant, plum, cedar, lead pencil and toasty, spicy elements highlight this intense red. Muscular tannins line the extended finish, leaving a peppery impression. The parts are all there but need time to integrate." Wine Spectator

"Just bottled, the 2016 Ornellaia is a dense, powerful wine. Naturally, the 2016 is just at the beginning of its life, but I am struck by how polished the tannins are for such a young wine. Ornellaia is at its best starting around age ten, but there is little doubt the 2016 is a hugely promising wine. Black cherry, chocolate, plum, new leather and a range of spice notes all build into a veritable crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures." VINOUS

"2016 is one of the best vintages ever in Bolgheri, classic in style and balanced. It has a 'great sense of the classics without denying the past, a fully-fledged, more modern wine,' according to Axel Heinz. Crimson and dense in colour, it's full of restrained, brambly fresh fruit, clove, nutmeg and a salty butteriness, combined with velvety, masked tannins on the palate. It is at perfect phenolic ripeness, supported by refreshing natural acidity balancing the 14.5% alcohol. This will last for decades." Decanter

"An astoundingly vibrant, powerful and concentrated Ornellaia that has a wealth of intense dark cherries, mulberries and plums with hints of espresso, dark cocoa powder and cedar. The concentrated palate is framed in long, regal tannins that bring focus to the plush, ripe and fresh black cherries and dark plums. Extremely balanced." James Suckling

"The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a wine of extreme complexity and precision. It offers monumental depth with profound layers of black fruit, coffee, licorice and baking chocolate. I tasted this 2016 vintage beside the less-impactful 2015 vintage (which was reviewed last year). These two editions are very different when compared side to side, and this 2016 release is clearly superior in terms of the quality, clarity and intensity of its offerings. This Ornellaia delivers glossy shine and a polished texture that segues to important richness, concentration and textural fiber. It wraps thickly over the palate, imparting waves of sweet dark fruit and dark spice that linger for many long minutes. This beautiful wine is hitting the market now, but collectors will want to put it straight into their cellars for safekeeping." Robert Parker

“Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia” Bolgheri DOC 2015 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Beautiful cuvée of the extra class. The bouquet with nuanced aromas is reminiscent of dark berries and cherries, with wonderfully spicy tones, balsamic and warm. The fascinatingly balanced and accessible taste is enveloping, excellently structured, concentrated, dense and persistent. Elegant and noble - a dream of wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2015 stands for an exceptional vintage, the – something rare – Maturity, substance and a very pleasant aroma combined in a perfectly balanced ratio. The wine has a strong and young colour and an intense, ripe fruity taste with slightly spicy roasted aromas. In the mouth its round, velvety, full and harmonious taste unfolds, reminiscent of juicy fruits. In the finish the wine is lively and without edges, refreshed by fine balsamic hints." Axel Heinz, Oenologist and Winery Director

"Plenty of blackberry and rust with tile and stone undertones. Full body, tannic and structured. A big and flavorful red." James Suckling

"This is a stunning and exuberant wine that drinks with beautiful intensity and personality. The 2015 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is made with fruit from the estate's young vines. Fruit from the older vines is instead directed to the top-shelf expressions. If this wine is any indication of what we can expect from the next vintage of Ornellaia to hit the market, we are in for a very special treat. This is a complete and richly concentrated expression that drinks with seamless intensity. It pits power against elegance with confidence and grace." Robert Parker

"Lush and modern, this evokes black cherry, blackberry, plum and light earth and iron flavors. A dusty swath of tannins girds the finish, but this should come together nicely in a year or two." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Le Serre Nuove shows just how alluring this vintage is. Silky, perfumed and also wonderfully light on its feet, the 2015 is a real pleasure to taste today. All of the Ornellaia signatures come through in an attractive, mid-weight wine that will drink well right out of the gate. The 2015 is a stunning Serre Nuove. That's all there is to it." • "Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia" Bolgheri DOC 2016 <br>Double-MAGNUM in OWC

“Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia” Bolgheri DOC 2016 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

It is very decisive in the mouth, unfolds immediately with balanced fruit and light salt, balanced, lays like a fine cloth on the tongue, tight tannin, in the finale strong pressure on the palate." (Place 65 / 100 "Best 100 under 100€) Falstaff

    • "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2014 <br>MAGNUM in OWC

“Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2014 · MAGNUM in OWC

Complex, racy and delicate floral scent of fully ripe cherries and black berries with noble, optimally integrated wood aromas. The tremendously harmonious taste reveals an impeccable fruit, dense, juicy and powerful, with melt, present yet soft tannins and ends in a decidedly elegant finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The year 2014 of Ornellaia has been, since we can remember, one of the most labour-intensive. Nevertheless, we were able to produce very attractive wines of high quality. The late ripening of the grapes has allowed the fruit to fully develop its vitality and freshness. What surprises you above all is the high quality of the tannin on the palate: soft, refined and without edges. This year represents the core of the winery's philosophy, „L‘ Essenza“ of Ornellaia: its natural style, the outstanding quality of its terroir and the skill of those who work in the vineyards and in the cellar". Axel Heinz, Director

"A rich, deep, dark ruby. Opened on the nose with intense toasted notes of dark chocolate and roasted hazelnuts, followed by dark berry fruit, blackcurrant and elderberry. On the palate beautiful spice notes, much ripe, dark berry fruit, opens with present, gripping tannin, builds up well." Falstaff

"To be released in May 2017, the 2014 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia reverts to a style and personality that we have not seen in a long while. The wine shows a tight, silky and determined approach that reminds us of the Ornellaias made under the estate's previous ownership with the Marchese Lodovico Antinori in the mid-1990s. More than anything else, this has to do with the very unique characteristics of the 2014 growing season. The wine opens to a beautifully saturated and dark appearance. Thanks to the advanced age of the vines and their extensive root systems, fruit quality was well preserved despite the cool summer and late harvest. The wine shows sweet fruit nuances with blackberry and dark currant. Spice, leather and tobacco fill in the rear. The finish reveals just enough of that acidic prickle to assure an easy ten or fifteen year drinking window." Robert Parker

"A solid and structured red with tile, dark berry and black tea character and some cloves, too. Full body, tannic and rich. Needs time to soften. Well done for a 2014. Ornellaia shows its pedigree here." James Suckling

“Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC

The 2013 is an elegant Ornellaia full of finesse: complex, racy and delicate floral scent of ripe cherries and black berries with noble, optimally integrated wood aromas. The tremendously harmonious taste reveals an impeccable fruit, dense, juicy and powerful, with melt, pronounced tannins and ends in a pronounced crisp finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"What initially appeared to be a disadvantage for the 2013 vintage, late budding and flowering, finally proved to be a great advantage thanks to a warm summer and September, which offered ideal conditions for harvesting with cool temperatures but sunny weather. This led to a slow but complete maturation of great balance and a wonderful aromatic quality, which we define as elegance. Ornellaia 2013 has a strong, bright colour, a bouquet full of splendid aromatic complexity, built around a clear, radiant fruit, underlined by refined spicy and balsamic notes. Vibrating and complex fruity nuances develop on the palate, framed by a dense, slender structure with tannins that achieve a rare harmony between firmness and fullness, ending in a long-lasting balanced and fresh finish." Axel Heinz, cellar master

"The 2013 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is an integrated and seamless blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.Alex Heinz tells me that 2013 was a difficult vintage especially towards the early part of the growing season. It balanced out during the summer and allowed for steady ripening of fruit before the harvest. But 2013was not as hot as 2011 and 2012 overall, and this edition of Ornellaiais beautifully tonic and shapely as a result. The bouquet is verydeveloped in terms of aromas this year with beautiful notes of darkfruit, tobacco and spice. Those perfumes are just gorgeous. Themouthfeel is similarly intense with tannins that are still young, butare already silky and linear in nature. This vintage promises a longaging future." Robert Parker

"Amazing graphite and violet aromas with dark fruits. Medium to full body, ultra-velvety tannins and a long and beautiful finish. Formed and tight. I love the fresh ginger underneath it all. This has a coolprofile to the wine. So approachable yet has wonderful length." JamesSuckling

“Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC

The Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore is the landmark of the Bolgheri winery. First produced in 1985, this wine is the result of a careful selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes, all cultivated in the company's vineyards. The 2012 vintage is an awe-inspiring masterpiece. Depth, wealth, elegance, ultrafine tannins, much potential, but already today a great drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"2012 was a sunny year and a predominantly dry year. The rainfall came just at the right time before the harvest, allowing the vines to recover from the drought and excessive heat and ripen homogeneously. The wines are wide and generous, their character is highly seductive and flattering, not to say enchanting. Ornellaia 2012 presents itself in a rich ruby red, the intense nose is wonderfully fruity and spicy. On the palate it reveals itself wide and round, without corners and edges, with smooth tannin. Of course, 2012 does not lack the proverbial concentration that distinguishes all the great Ornellaia vintages; but this vintage hides it behind a generous and opulent structure and ends in a long finale." Axel Heinz, cellar master

"Dark ruby garnet, violet reflexes, delicate waterline. Black berries, cassis and liquorice, candied violets, mineral touch, fine noble wood note. Complex, firm, fine nougat, present, supporting tannin that still needs a lot of time, dark berry fruit in the aftertaste, mineral, please wait ..." Falstaff

"A tight and silky red with compacted fruit and tannin texture featuring blackcurrant, mushroom and bark undertones. Full body, firm tannins and a minerally finish. Excellent structure and mouthfeel. A cooler style of Ornellaia, bringing it back to the classicism of this celebrated region." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Tenuta dell' Ornellaia
    Tuscany | Bolgheri
    Tenuta dell' Ornellaia

It is a model for viticulture in Italy, especially in Tuscany, and a brand that does not have to fear comparison with the largest wine houses in the world. We are talking about the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia. The importance of this picturesquely situated winery in Bolgheri has been growing for years. The house's wines were a safer investment than gold between 2007 and 2013. Moreover, price fluctuations were comparatively low. This has an investigation by the auction house Sotheby's and Liv-Ex, an international wine exchange in London. The exceptional Tuscan estate was founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori. Mondavi later took over the majority of the capital. Today the company belongs to the Florentine Frescobaldi family. The products of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia are enjoyed in 60 countries around the world, with an export quota of around 30 percent. The deliveries go to prestigious customers and important collectors. Demand regularly far exceeds bottle production.

The vineyards of this imaginative family-run business stretch partly along Via Bolgherese and in Bellaria, northwest of Bolgheri. The almost perfect winery relies on classic Bordeaux varieties in its plots. Depending on the subzone, the soils are of alluvial, volcanic or marine origin. The proximity of the sea and the protection provided by the neighbouring hills favour a microclimate in which the grapes can ripen perfectly. Gentle sea breezes soften the summer heat, in winter the hills protect against icy winds.

The elite wines of the Tenuta dell, blessed with expert staff'Ornellaia are flawless in their modern style and technique. They reflect the character of the terroir and the great skills of their producers. The grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately, as each base wine must express the different facets of its parcel of origin - the soil, the sunlight and the grape variety. Only after one year of barrel ripening are the wines „wedded“. Even in difficult years remarkable drops succeed in the good.

The prestigious winery not only produces wines of the highest quality, but also attaches great importance to culture. In 2009, for example, the Vendemmia d’Artista from the baptism lifted. Its aim is to revive the tradition of Renaissance patronage of the arts and to place it in a contemporary context each year with a strictly limited edition (large formats only). SUPERIORE.DE

"The Ornellaia is an immensely lavish wine with a wonderful depth of taste. The Masseto is usually more massive and powerful. Both are among the best (and most expensive) red wines in Italy. Even the second set, Le Serre Nuove and Le Volte, are delicious." The Great Johnson

"The Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is 91 hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (43 ha), Merlot (33 ha), Cabernet Franc (7 ha) and Petit Verdot (8 ha). At the moment only 76 hectares are in production: 30 hectares in the original vineyard, a further 46 hectares in the Bellaria vineyard just behind the end of Bolgheri, which has belonged to Tenuta since 1993. A revealing vertical sample of 10 Ornellaia vintages – presented by Leonardo Raspini, the director of the winery, in Zurich – showed that the quality of Ornellaia has improved markedly over the last few years thanks to the ageing of the vines, more rigorous restrictions on quantities and the introduction of a second wine. It could also be stated that the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia succeeds in producing remarkable wines even in difficult years."Weinwisser
