“Grattamacco” Vermentino Bolgheri DOC 2021 (BIO)
High-quality and rare Vermentino with a straw-yellow colour and a bouquet of white fruit and hazelnut. Fresh and floral on the palate, round and ripe. The well-dosed use of wood gives the wine a fine, creamy texture. A persistent, highly elegant Bolgheri Bianco with fine mineral notes for special occasions. SUPERIORE.DE
"The multi-faceted nose has seductive elderberry tones, as well as fine macchia and stone fruit notes; compact in the mouth, the acidity is lively, beautifully polished and enveloping, fresh and yet elegant." Vinum
"Bright, radiant straw yellow colour. Candied lemon and flint on the nose, beautiful fine wood, sea salt, subtle white blossom on the finish. Polished and delicately creamy on the palate, with well-integrated wood, savoury and a pleasant length." Falstaff
"A medium-bodied release, dry, fresh and admirably textured, with notes of baked apple, spiced pear and lemon drops compressed by a touch of attractive French oak. The finish, a rail of maritime salinity fused with the cedar signpost." James Suckling
"A supple white, blending elements of ripe peach and melon with Mediterranean scrub, bitter citrus and crushed stone. Lively and also leaves a chalky sensation on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"The organic Grattamacco 2021 Bolgheri Vermentino shows the results of an extra year in the bottle with steely mineral notes followed by ripe apple and preserved lemon. There is an evolution in this white 2021 that gives it beautiful layers of flint and ash. The wine is already very drinkable now, especially in terms of mouthfeel thanks to its clean, mid-weight texture and freshness. It has been partially aged in tonneaux and has a delicate hint of vanilla spice. This characterful wine comes from old and valuable vines." Wine Advocate
"A solid Vermentino that was aged partly in steel and partly in barriques. Fruity on the nose, nuances of lychee, then yellow melon and citrus thyme, with a hint of white pepper and a lovely length on the palate." Luca Gardini

“Grattamacco” Rosso Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2020 (BIO)
Bright, rich ruby red. Fine, elegant bouquet with fruit aromas, notes of coffee and complex spice aromas. The taste is long-lasting, the acidity in perfect balance with the tannin and body. A wine with great tension and personality, suitable for long ageing, but also a delight in its youth. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wonderfully multi-layered, rather cool bouquet with the mineral notes often perceived here, reminiscent of iron, very distinguished, noble fruit with à point ripe forest berry aromas, noble cherries, cassis and cranberries. Fine and elegant on the palate, very precisely contoured, super elaborate tannin that almost perfectly hugs the body like a tailor-made dress, appears linear with fine-jetted acid freshness penetrating the palate. This is mega! With this, Grattamacco goes toe-to-toe with the superstars of the region and secures a probably permanent place on the podium." Weinwisser
"Elegant and straightforward in profile, this red wine offers aromas and flavours of cherries, blackcurrants, minerals, earth and Mediterranean scrub. There is fine tension and freshness, with a long, resonant aftertaste. Needs time." Wine Spectator
"Timeless blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese: Plump bouquet of blueberry jam and leather; juicy on the palate, the acidity and crumbly tannins in harmony, soft and supple yet with substance the fruity-balsamic finish, also mineral nuances. A classic that is also convincing in this vintage." Vinum
"Aromatic nose of blackcurrants, berries and cherries, along with hints of flowers and soft oak. Full-bodied with a very pure and intense fruit that runs through the slightly firm tannins, giving a long finish that is only slightly rubbing. From organically grown grapes. An elegant, well-structured blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Drinkable now, but better from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2020 tastes balanced and long with even more tannic structure to hold it firmly together. This is an iconic blend." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Grattamacco is an outstanding wine, dark, vibrant and nuanced to the core. Black fruits, lavender, spices, leather, menthol and dried herbs give the 2020 plenty of character and complexity. The 2020 is deep but also wonderfully translucent and one of the finest Grattamaccos I can remember tasting. It has incredible depth and resonance, not to mention a lot of personality." Vinous
"One of the highlights of Bolgheri, from a now mythological vineyard. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Blackberries on the nose, menthol, pink pepper and citrus notes on the finish. The palate is taut with tannins balanced by a fresh, salty component. Fruity finish, depth." Luca Gardini

“L’Alberello” Rosso Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2020 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
L'Alberello is a beautiful Bolgheri Superiore made primarily from Cabernet. The wine comes from a two-hectare plot planted entirely with long rows of Alberello vines, which stand at an altitude of 30 metres above sea level on predominantly clay soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and the wine ages for 18 months in barriques. This vintage is very generous and broad in terms of aroma and texture, with finely honed tannins. Starts fresh and vehement with warm, dark fruit aromas, then opens up further with a bouquet of herbs, coffee and a pinch of pepper. Remarkably polished and juicy on the palate, everything is in balance, silky and very charismatic on the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Seductive spicy wild berry nose, with a touch of lilac and liquorice notes; juicy palate, the acidity, vif and perfectly integrated, underpins the powdery tannins, finishes for ages and with lots and lots of polish." Vinum
"The Bolgheri Superiore L'Alberello 2020 from Grattamacco is impressive. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, mint, flowers, spices and blood oranges race across the palate with remarkable freshness and vivacity. This deceptively medium-bodied Maremma red is wonderfully refined and nuanced from start to finish. I particularly admire the energy it exudes. Pretty floral and mineral notes brighten the finish, and the flavours linger." Vinous
"There is a yin and yang between the lush fruit of blackberries, blackcurrants and cherries and the taut, grainy tannins in this red wine that starts out fluid and then firms up on the long finish. Mineral notes and undergrowth give it depth. It simply seems more youthful than its peers at this stage. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc." Wine Spectator
"This is a preview of the Bolgheri Superiore l'Alberello 2020 tasted at the winery. This wine is very different from the winery's flagship, the Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco. For one thing, the vines are planted according to the Alberello system in a special symmetrical grid, so that each plant enjoys the same exposure. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc. This unfinished vintage shows a strong mineral or saline signature with earth, liquorice, dried mint and wet clay." Wine Advocate
"Nice, clean black fruit character in this full-bodied and densely packed red wine. It also offers notes of dark chocolate, cardamom and fresh fenugreek seeds. The tannins are well embedded in the texture and draw you into the wine. The fruit is persistent. The finish is long and firms up towards the end. From organically grown grapes. Cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. This wine is very impressive now, but it will linger in the bottle for a few more years. But now it's very tempting." James Suckling

"Deep ruby red; aromas of black plum, lavender and peppermint. Medium-full with a rich mid-palate with layers of perfectly ripe fruit. Very good acidity, medium-full tannins that are beautifully balanced, nicely integrated wood notes and outstanding persistence. Another brilliant wine from this great producer!" Forbes Magazine
"Elegant odeur of warm-scented raspberries, also nuances of Mediterranean maquis, lots of melt and juice, invigorating acidity, finishes long. Accompanies an autumnal game dish." Vinum
"Dark ruby red with violet edges. Dense, very intense bouquet, immensely multifaceted, exudes a certain lightness with a clearly mineral backdrop, reminiscent of graphite and iron, despite the new wood ageing. Grandiose, because it almost floats. In the mouth, very fine and precisely proportioned, not made for power but for origin. Impressive final with blue berries." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Exciting and multi-layered nose, initially showing fine notes of cedar, a little resinous, then lush fresh currant and raspberry. Very juicy on the palate, opens with fine-meshed, grippy tannin, salty and long." Falstaff
"The 2018 vintage - according to the estate - produced elegant wines, characterised by their aromatic intensity. If Sangiovese usually brings tension to Grattamacco compared to other Bolgheri superiore based on Bordeaux blends, this year it reveals a slightly greenish touch on the finish. However there is in the glass a great intensity of earthy tones among black pepper and game, then cassis and cedar wood flavours sustained by silky tannins well integrated with firm acidity and just a bit austere finish." Decanter
"Currants, blackberries and hints of chocolate and fresh herbs. Full-bodied and round-tannined with a lovely texture and a savory, almost iron finish. From organically grown grapes. Hard not to drink now, but a year or two will bring it even more together." James Suckling
"A mix of coffee and black olive flavors shade the core of black currant and black cherry in this dense, linear red, which is focused and long, with a mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Grattamacco is the most elegant, refined and satisfying wine I have ever tasted from Grattamacco. There is a level of finesse here that is simply unreal. Bright and translucent, with tons of detail, the 2018 oozes with pedigree. Lavender, spice, mint, tobacco and dried flowers add an attractive upper register." Vinous
"The 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco reveals a finely nuanced bouquet with dark fruit, tobacco, smoke and earthy garrigue or underbrush. The wine leans toward full-bodied, but it also feels quite elegant and crisp on the streamlined finish." Wine Advocate

The Grattamacco winery was founded in 1977 between the towns of Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri. Claudio Tipa, a native Sicilian and former industrialist, has been managing the Grattamacco estate in the Bolgheri noble growing area since 2002 - first as tenant - meanwhile as owner with much passion and high competence. It is part of his own small Colle Massari Spa wine empire.
Tipa's own wine estates Poggio di Sotto and Tenuta San Giorgio in the Montalcino region and ColleMassari in the Maremma region also belong to the Tuscan company, where he is supported by his wife Maria and sister Maria-Iris. Those who visit Grattamacco, located on a hill between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, are rewarded with a marvelous panorama of the Tuscan coast. The extremely charming farm extends over 80 hectares, of which a good 29 hectares are planted with vines and fourteen with olives. Surrounded by 1,200 hectares of woodland, the estate is considered a model for the entire wine-growing zone. Its flagship is the splendid Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco, which is regularly praised by wine critics.
The estate owner of Podere Grattamacco is considered by experts as one of the most conscientious and best organized vintners of Italian viticulture. Since Tipa has been running the estate, the elegant drops of the wide-ranging assortment have gained in fascination and stylistic definition, according to wine testers. Before, the owner had done pioneer work for more than 20 years and had decisively contributed to Bolgheri becoming a region of great red wines. Since Claudio Tipa successfully faced the hard competition on the wine market immediately after his entry, the small vintner business has meanwhile left behind its character as a noble niche business.
On the vineyards, which reach an altitude of about 100-200 meters above sea level, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon is cultivated (share of about 60 percent). Smaller parts are planted with Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The white grape variety cultivated on the slopes is exclusively Vermentino. The soils of the Grattamacco vineyards are sandy at lower altitudes, lime and marl at higher altitudes.
In the winery, the utmost care is taken down to the smallest detail. The hand-picked grapes ferment in small wooden vats. The far-sighted winery owner deliberately refrains from adding pure yeasts to control the fermentation. The malolactic fermentation is spontaneous and ends after the wine has already been transferred into barrique barrels. Until the creation of the cuvées, all grape varieties are vinified separately in the estate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Although Grattamacco dates back to the 1970s and can be considered a long-established winery in Bolgheri, it certainly doesn't lack dynamism and surprising developments." Gambero Rosso
