“Rivus” Lagrein Alto Adige DOC 2021
The grapes for Rivus come from the best Lagrein sites, some of them from 100-year-old vines in Neumarkt and Auer. Rich purple red. Aromas of wild blackberries, tobacco, herbs and lavender. Energetic body, not too heavy, soft, silky tannins and bright acidity. Spicy and tasty with a juicy and lively finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Like a freshly cracked open jar of wild berry preserves laced with sweet sage, the 2021 Lagrein Rivus makes itself known in the glass. This blends both sweet and sour characteristics with crisp blackberry fruits offset by citrus and brisk acidity. It leaves the palate stained in primary concentration yet remains surprisingly fresh as violet inner florals and a tart black currant twang slowly fade." Vinous
"This youthful Lagrein red wine needs a little aeration to expel the last bit of carbon dioxide from the fermentation, but then a broad spectrum of aromas of black cherries, red berries and candied ginger unfolds. The tannins are very elegant for this grape variety and go wonderfully with the precise fruit character. Long, silky finish. Built for ageing." James Suckling

We are delighted to be one of the few retailers who receive a few cases of this finesse-rich sparkling wine every year. Brilliant pale yellow in colour, this clarity is also immediately apparent on the nose, where delicate fruit and citrus notes combine harmoniously with a refreshing minerality. On the palate, it has a pronounced elegance and finesse, supported by a freshness and precision that gives it great persistence. No dosage, less than 0.5g residual sugar, very convincing! “Vigna Das Langefeld” Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2019
With the Pinot Nero Riserva Vigna Das Langefeld, the Pfitscher family has undoubtedly created an elegant top wine that perfectly reflects the identity of the terroir.
The small vineyard Das Langefeld is one of the highest and oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in South Tyrol. It is located in the Glen vineyard above Montan at around 550 metres above sea level. Alongside Mazzon, this site is certainly one of the best known and most recognised for this grape variety in Italy. Like all of the Pfitscher family's vineyards, this plot of only 4,000 square metres is cultivated exclusively organically. The vineyard faces west and is characterised by deep clay and limestone soils. The Guyot training system enables an enormous planting density of around 8,000 vines per hectare.
Today, Vigna Das Langefeld is a family project that Klaus Pfitscher started back in 1984 at the age of 24. Even then, he recognised the potential of the site and decided to plant Pinot Noir clones from Burgundy. Looking back, he states: "When I planted this vineyard in 1984, I was convinced that something great would come out of it. This wine is the fulfilment of a dream". His son Hannes, a trained Oenologist and cellar master at Pfitscher, is now passionate about the winery's wines together with his father. He adds: "We are all constantly striving for perfection. The age of the vines, the microclimate of Glen and the organic cultivation form the basis for a wine with great depth as well as excellent elegance and finesse, of which we are very proud".
Eros Teboni, WSA Best Sommelier of the World 2018, already had the masterpiece in his glass: "The Vigna Das Langefeld has an elegant, modern signature that is nevertheless strongly linked to the typicality of South Tyrolean wines. In other interpretations of this grape variety, you sometimes find more rustic traits: here, on the other hand, elegance and vibrancy predominate. A Pinot Noir with a strong identity and great personality, produced with the greatest commitment and attention to detail."
This wine is the result of a careful selection process in which healthy, fully ripe grapes from a small harvest are picked by hand. This is followed by a two-day cold maceration of the largely undestemmed grapes and a spontaneous fermentation of around 14 days. After a further 12 months of maturation in barriques, the wine rests and matures for six months in a 10 hl wooden barrel and then 30 months in the bottle. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The new top wine from Pfitscher is released in an edition of only 1,296 numbered bottles and we are delighted to be able to offer a few examples of this exclusive wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich, savoury Pinot with ripe red and dark berries, bark, cocoa, damp earth and a hint of tar. Full and layered, quite weighty and deep, yet balanced and focused, with a firm tannic structure and a lingering finish. Earthy and spicy." James Suckling
"Elegant ruby red colour with a brightening rim. Inviting nose of blood orange, rosehip and raspberry, with light spices and fine, fragrant floral notes on the finish. On the palate with great, cool fruit and savoury tannins, shows beautiful depth, comes in many layers, salty, precise and with a lot of tension." Falstaff

Where the landscape is dominated by white peaks, green dense forests, rivers, mountain lakes and terraced vineyards, there is Tenuta Pfitscher, founded in 1861. This family-run business from the small village of Montagna succeeded in convincing us with authentic mountain wines that combine experience and innovation.
When he took over the Tenuta in 1978, senior Klaus Pfitscher already knew how to incorporate his progressive ideas into the soil of the steep South Tyrolean slopes. He dealt extensively with the different soil types and the alpine climate of the dizzying steep slopes, where the vines, after years of rooting, can produce unique wines of power and complexity.
The laborious manual harvest at 300 to 900 metres above sea level and the strict adherence to yields per hectare benefit the quality of the wine. The blending of the different vineyards is dictated by the respective vintage at Pfitscher, which is why all grape varieties are vinified separately. From the young Müller-Thurgau to the mature Pinot Nero Riserva - each wine benefits from the detail-oriented craftsmanship and thus acquires its own authentic expression.
With the support of their children Daniel, Hannes and Marion, the seventh generation of Pfitschers has now also made it their business to produce straightforward, autochthonous wines. The entire family is part of a reality that continuously produces new projects and has been connected to the traditions of sustainable South Tyrolean viticulture for 160 years.
In 2011, a new winery was opened in picturesque Montan above Auer, completely embedded in nature and indeed a small architectural masterpiece. From pruning to packaging, the Pfitscher family now works as Italy's first winery with the "KlimaHaus Wine" quality seal - fully in harmony with nature.
"Our goal is to preserve the tradition that has been cultivated for generations and to keep improving it," says the family business. Combining a view of the future with knowledge of tradition and the past is what makes this unique range of great South Tyrolean wine classics possible and opens up new horizons for us. These are wines that you certainly won't forget in a hurry. SUPERIORE.DE
