Anger Pinot Grigio, top growth from a single vineyard with loamy chalky gravel soils, is another prime example that Pinot Grigio from Italy can be much more than a simple drinking wine. With a ripe bouquet of pear and honeydew melon, noble structure, excellent balance and fine acidity, Anger convinces even the most spoiled palate. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Pinot Grigio Anger from St. Michael-Eppan balances the richness of partial oak aging with varietal purity and a gorgeous inner sweetness to create a truly seductive expression. Yellow flowers, ripe green melon and apple take center stage, with a hint of stone dust and brown spice in the background. It’s silky in texture, soothing all that it touches in ripe orchard fruits backed by zesty, mouthwatering acids. Lasting savory herbal tones and sour citrus form up the long and refreshing finale." Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2018

Pinot Nero Riserva with feminine scent of sweet fruits, flowers, minerals and spices, slim and delicate on the palate, with great balance. The Pinot Noir is a diva with high demands on soil and climate and demands a lot of attention in the cellar. For Riserva quality, the vine must also be at least ten years old and thrive in an excellent location. The Riserva of St. Michael-Eppan must not shy away from the international price/quality comparison. SUPERIORE.DE

“St. Valentin” Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC 2018

Chardonnay - at home all over the world - thrives for the Sanct Valentin in the best single vineyards of the municipality of Eppan and develops here into magnificent grapes. Strong golden yellow with green reflexes. Powerful, fruity bouquet of ripe fruit, yeast and vanilla notes. Very memorable, powerful, long and mineral on the palate. One of the most important wines of the house with excellent balance, well integrated acidity and excellent storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant straw yellow with light green tones. Open and approachable nose, smells of banana, fresh pear, some pineapple. Round and expansive in approach and course, shines with lots of present fruit, juicy." Falstaff

"The 2018 Chardonnay Sanct Valentin from St. Michael-Eppan is wonderfully fresh and expressive, as it blossoms in the glass to reveal notes of crushed yellow apple, honied spring flowers and a subtle hint of vanilla bean. It’s soft and textural, perfectly framed by a gentle tug of minerals and acids which gives way to flavors of ripe peach and sweet cream. There’s a subtle note of roasted almond and butterscotch that lasts on the palate for over a minute, showing a bit of wood influence yet perfectly integrated." Vinous

"A high-toned chardonnay with cooked apples, pineapple, coconut and some toasted oak. It’s full-bodied with layers of fruit and a flavorful finish. Drinkable now, but should age beautifully." James Suckling

    About the winemakersSt. Michael-EppanTrentino-South Tyrol
    St. Michael-Eppan

About three quarters of the wine in South Tyrol is bottled in cooperative wineries. The St. Michael-Eppan winery, which has been enthroned in the largest wine-growing community in the region for more than a hundred years, is one of them. Since 1977 Hans Terzer has been the responsible cellar master of the 340 winegrowing cooperative. The oenologist was Gambero Rossonamed one of the ten best winemakers in the world in 1997. Three years later, the renowned wine guide St. Michael-Eppan awarded the prize for the best winery in Italy. As the soul of the company and for almost 25 years also as president of the South Tyrolean cellar masters, Terzer has led the cooperative winery known outside Germany as Cantina Produttori San Michele Appiano to the highest quality with perseverance and foresight.

Among the jewels of St. Michael-Eppan, besides the great Appius, are the excellent red and demanding white drops of the line "Sanct Valentine"led by the now legendary Sauvignon. But also the wines made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Lagrein and other varieties leave nothing to be desired. The lines "selection" and "Classic" also stand for flawless labels offered at reasonable prices.

The winegrowers affiliated to the cooperative winery have the best vineyards on the South Tyrolean Wine Route. In addition to St. Valentin, there are the top locations Gleif, Schulthaus and Montiggl. The cultivated areas enjoy plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures and cool drop winds. Varied gravel soils formed by the erosion of the glaciers and subsequent erosion are other typical features.

Tradition and progress go hand in hand in St. Michael-Eppan. Stainless steel is the predominant material in the cellar, from the fermentation tank to the storage barrel. At the heart of the company, however, are two barrique cellars in which the highest quality and most valuable plants ripen. The ageing of the wines in the renewed wooden barrel cellar, which is again equipped with large oak barrels, takes place with a great deal of sensitivity and produces complex drops from a first-class symbiosis of fruit and wood. SUPERIORE.DE

"Like an ocean giant, this cooperative steamer ploughs through its vast sea of vines, almost unsinkable even in stormy times. And it surprises again and again, with which ease one gets year after year true marvels from the depths."Gambero Rosso
