• "Troy" Chardonnay Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2017

“Troy” Chardonnay Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2017

Troy is not a regular chardonnay. He is rather the archetype of a Chardonnay, as Wolfgang Klotz, managing director of the probably most successful winegrowers' cooperative in South Tyrol, sees it. The grapes come from two selected vineyards in Söll, near Tramin. Not only does a Mediterranean climate prevail there, but the vegetation is also determined by rather cold down winds at night. Both factors which guarantee an optimal development of the plants and fruits. The berries are hand-picked piece by piece and therefore every wine connoisseur knows that this is an absolute prestige project of the cooperative. It is therefore not surprising that only 3,000 bottles of this crescendo are sold in selected specialist shops and top restaurants.

Intense straw to golden yellow. In the bouquet tropical fruit, a touch of camomile and mint, then fine toasted notes and a subtle nutty touch. On the palate you can almost taste the proximity of the mountains, its clarity, freshness and intensity: exotic notes of yellow ripe fruit, then again some nut and in addition again a beguiling liveliness and minerality, which ends in an identical long final. Chardonnay can be like this, chapeau! SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Epokale" Gewürztraminer Spätlese Alto Adige DOC 2013

“Epokale” Gewürztraminer Spätlese Alto Adige DOC 2013

The name says it all. This wine is a reminiscence of a long past epoch. It is a Gewürztraminer, which is vinified in the traditional style with clearly perceptible residual sugar. The grapes come from two of the oldest Gewürztraminer sites near the Nußbaumerhof in Tramin from soils with calcareous gravel and porphyry rock. In order to develop its character as best as possible, Epokale ripens for seven years in the darkness of the Ridnaun tunnel on the Schneeberg at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. Here, four kilometres deep inside the mountain, it retains its freshness and gains elegance thanks to an environment with constant humidity and a cool temperature of 11 degrees all year round.

Intense golden yellow. Impressive bouquet of rose petals, some lavender and ripe, exotic fruits. Spicy notes of dried herbs, sage, ginger, saffron and cinnamon. A wine of pronounced aromas, infinite depth, with finely spiced juiciness and salty minerality at the same time. The acidity harmonises unparalleled with the highly fine residual sweetness and makes this late harvest riserva a unique experience. There are 900 bottles of this vintage. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense golden yellow. Smells like a bed of rose petals, with notes of mango, some ginger and cloves. Full and interwoven on the palate, glides smoothly, sweet but not too much, just enough to bring out the fruit, very long finish." Falstaff

"The most extraordinary nose: molten gold, honey and meadow-hay flowers, cinnamon-spiced grilled peaches, meringue, lemon-drizzle cake. It tastes all that and more. It feels like heavy silk in the mouth, the movement of the wine almost indolent in its sensuous slowness. The layers of flavour build and build through the sweetness, and although there isn't that piercing acidity of a German Spätlese, there is powerful structure and the result is exquisite balance. Crystallised ginger, toffee apple, candied lemon peel, yuzu and poached quince play melody to the minor-key signatures of harissa spice powder, toasted brioche, crushed rose petal, dried sage, walnut paste, white pepper, perilla. A stunningly complex wine. Long, long, long." Jancis Robinson

"Bright medium yellow-gold. Aromas of spicy yellow fruits and chamomile are lifted by nuances of mint and minerals. More expressive in the mouth, where very ripe nectarine and peach flavors are accented by wild herbs and sweet spices. Though not as concentrated as the Epokale, this really spreads out to saturate the palate with orchard fruit and spice notes on the long, slightly warm finish." Vinous

"Once bottled, this is aged for a further seven years at 4km below ground. Despite its depth of flavour, plus 46g/L residual sugar, it’s light on its feet. Exquisite." Decanter
