"As the saying goes, good things come in small packages. The Cantina Tramin 2017 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Vendemmia Tardiva Terminum is made with late-harvest fruit. The wine is packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle and only 4,200 bottles exist. The barrique-aged wine opens to a dark golden color with amber and copper highlights. It would be impossible to exaggerate the intensity of the honey, dried apricot and candied fruit aromas that rise from the bouquet. The one-hectare vineyard is located at a high 450 meters above sea level. The fruit is left to dry on the vines, and only when Botrytis cinerea (or the so-called "noble rot") appears are the grapes ready for harvest. The wines of the Tramin Winery are created with awareness and pride, "that every bottle contains the outline of a philosophy of life and work". Precision, dedication, trust and creativity are the basic principles for production, according to the traditional South Tyrolean winegrowers' cooperative in its self-portrayal. The products of the winery, which has been producing since 2010 in a new, architecturally past and present environment, are made from grapes carefully cultivated by around 300 comrades in the Tramin, Auer, Neumarkt and Montan areas. In the cellar, the Technical Manager Willi Stürz processes the fruit into stylistically flawless drops of high typicality.
Willi Stürz was born in Traminer. Under his influence, the Tramin winery has dedicated itself to a contemporary and natural viticulture that consciously preserves its traditions. Fall, "Best Italian cellar master 2004" (Gambero Rosso), is in the province of Bolzano a symbol for high artisan wine art. From classic South Tyrolean grape varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Lagrein and Vernatsch, it prepares unmistakably aromatic cuvées and pure wines in an environment that is reminiscent of the Traminer vines in form and colour, which are divided into the two lines "classically" and "selection" subdivide. The top blends are an expression of the talent and creativity of the cellar master and originate according to the information of the winegrowers' cooperative. Aspects such as organic and pruning, as well as the philosophies associated with them and possible working steps, are treated particularly intensively in the Tramin Winery. For example, a group of winegrowers has been striving for years - for example through training - to sensitize all winegrowers affiliated to the cooperative to the path of organic viticulture and to make their work in the vineyard as natural as possible. The most attractive attraction of the wide assortment is the Gewürztraminer, which presents itself as magnificent in the centre of its historical area of origin. The Spätlese Terminum was published in 2001 by the Weinführer "Vini d‘Italia - Gambero Rosso" to the best sweet wine of the country.
