“Tradition” St. Magdalener Alto Adige DOC 2019
"Once upon a time, St. Magdalener, a traditional cuvée made from the two autochthonous grape varieties Vernatsch and Lagrein, not only played a very important role in South Tyrolean viticulture, but was also one of the most famous Italian red wines. But even today, this fine, fruity and characteristically stylish red wine, named after the growing area around the wine village of St. Magdalena, has many lovers and is currently being rediscovered by many a connoisseur. Rudi Kofler (cellar master Cantina Terlano)
Strong ruby red in the nose with a clear superficial fruit of black elderberries and cherries, rounded off by a bitter almond aroma and hints of violets. Fruity in taste, soft and elegant on the palate with a balanced acid structure and the low tannin content for the Vernatsch variety. SUPERIORE.DE

“Tradition” Lagrein Alto Adige DOC 2019
"Lagrein is undoubtedly one of South Tyrol's leading varietals and is currently experiencing a renaissance, especially due to its fruity aromas paired with spicy notes and its velvety tannins. This autochthonous grape variety has its roots in the provincial capital of Bolzano, but has also been a fixed part of the range in Terlan for many decades." “Tradition” Gewürztraminer Alto Adige DOC 2019
Bright golden yellow, intensive, multilayered fragrance, clearly of lychee and grapefruit. At the palate nice juicy fruit, first playful, then full of spices. Very fine, fresh and not too heavy Gewürztraminer. SUPERIORE.DE
"The bouquet on the 2019 Gewürztraminer Tradition is remarkably fresh and floral, yet not leaning too much on the exoticism that the variety has a tendency to show. Instead I’m finding notes of white peach and kiwi, hints of lemony citrus and spring flowers. It coats the palate with silky richness, perfectly balanced by zesty acids, as sweet spice and ripe peach comes forward. The finish is long and textural, seeming to slowly melt away, leaving a hint of minty herbs and vanilla bean." Vinous
"The 2019 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Tradition offers a pretty, off-gold color with fragrant tones of honeysuckle, star jasmine and tropical fruit. There are heavier, glossy aromas as well that remind me of new rubber boots, saffron and even a touch of cumin. This is a beautifully rich, mid-weight expression of the fragrant Gewürztraminer grape, with some distant stickiness and sweetness." Robert Parker
"Aromas of flint, dried apples and some cooked pears follow through to a medium body with cooked-apple and pear flavors. It’s fruity and delicious on the finish." James Suckling

“Lunare” Gewürztraminer Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2018
Lunare Traminer Aromatico has a straw-yellow colour, its bouquet consists of complex aromas of roses, cloves and lychee. Its taste is very full-bodied with a slightly bitter finish typical of Traminer. This successful Gewürztraminer is excellent with liver pâté, white meat dishes and refined pasta dishes with sauces and creams. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, intense straw yellow with a green touch. Very intense and at the same time cool nose, opens with notes of cloves and thyme, then a lot of mango, nectarine, in the background of smoked meat. On the palate very complex aromas, a firework of taste impressions, has firm pressure, in the final very long and bone dry, stays on the palate for minutes." Falstaff
"Love the aromas of dried pineapple with candle-wax and beeswax undertones. Full-bodied with plenty of ripe fruit, as well as almonds and dried spices, such as cloves. Really spicy at the end." James Suckling
"Great varietal expression with blossom and turkish delight undertones. Unctuous with nutty flavours and a perfumed finish; opulent richness and length." Decanter
"The 2018 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Lunare opens to a luminous off-gold color and substantial aromatic intensity. The bouquet is redolent of sweet peach, honey, candied almond, star jasmine and preserved lemon. This is a generous, full-bodied expression with lots of glycerin, richness and texture that is especially well played in this vintage. There is a subtle note of peachy-sweetness on the finish." “Quarz” Sauvignon Bianco Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2019 · MAGNUM
Named after the quartz inclusions in the volcanic porphyry rock of Terlan, the probably most famous Sauvignon Bianco of Italy lives up to its name. Filigree, delicately scented with grapefruit, peach, honey and green papaya. Quartz is taut and precise, with a fleshy, creamy texture, great depth and a beautiful mineral-salty finish. Must have and must taste! SUPERIORE.DE

The South Tyrolean municipality of Terlan, about halfway between Merano and Bolzano, combines the advantages of an alpine and Mediterranean climate. The combination of basic microclimatic conditions and the particularities of the soil promotes complex, highly personal and extremely long-lasting wines with a typical regional character, which are well preserved in the Terlan winery. As early as 1893, 24 winegrowers founded the production, sales and marketing association in this small village in the Etsch Valley, thus laying the foundation stone for one of the first winegrowers' cooperatives in South Tyrol. Today, the cooperative already has 143 members who cultivate a total of 162 hectares of vineyards in a committed and environmentally friendly manner.
The south- and south-west-facing, sun-drenched vineyards of the comrades, which begin at the foot of the Tschöggelberg mountain range, extend from gentle hilly areas in the valley floor reaching up to 250 metres to steep and 900-metre-high mountain slopes. The soils are sandy, stony and permeable. The lower sites are particularly suitable for Lagrein, Cabernet and other heavy red wines. Pinot blanc and white varieties, on the other hand, can be found in the higher geographical areas. During the ripening period, warm days and cool nights guarantee a balance of sugar, acidity and aromas. Every single vine of the winegrowers belonging to the Verbund is carefully classified in order to be able to meticulously determine the production quantity.
As one of the four managing directors of the Terlan winery, cellarmaster Rudi Kofler has a keen sense for developing autochthonous and internationally significant, strong, well-structured white and red wines with DOC status, which have a rich and ripe fruit component, in the sanctum of the house. The development and marketing of the - around 70 percent white - drops takes place in three quality lines.
Unique in Italy is the Cantina Terlano Wine Archive, with more than 20,000 bottles, the oldest of which dates back to the year of its foundation and each year a special tranche as "rarità" in small editions of approx. 3,500 bottles. The cooperative, which was published in 2015 by the journal "wine industry" was named Italy's number one for the third time in a row in a cooperative test and its chairman Georg Höller also works in the same function for the Association of South Tyrolean Wine Cooperatives. In 2008, he merged with Andrian Winery, which, however, retains its own brand. SUPERIORE.DE
"The meticulous classification of the vineyards of the individual winegrowers reflects the intimate relationship of this cooperative to its production area. The perfect interpretation of the various terroirs is the result of the stable and sustained success of these mineral, progressive wines, which glide calmly through the years, as shown by the stocks of old bottles that Sebastian Stocker has put back since time immemorial.“Gambero Rosso
