“Tradition” Lagrein Rosé Alto Adige DOC 2017

The Lagrein Kretzer - a typical South Tyrolean rosé - is brilliant bright red. The fresh, fruity taste with hints of blueberries harmonises with the light bouquet of roses. A full-bodied, stimulating drop. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Häuslerhof" St. Magdalener Tradition Alto Adige DOC 2018

“Häuslerhof” St. Magdalener Tradition Alto Adige DOC 2018

"Once the St. Magdalener, a traditional cuvée from the two autochthonous grape varieties Vernatsch and Lagrein, played not only a very important role in South Tyrolean viticulture but was also one of the best known Italian red wines. But even today this fine-fruity and characteristically stylish red wine, which is named after the wine-growing area around the wine village of St. Magdalena, has many connoisseurs and is currently being rediscovered by many a connoisseur". Rudi Kofler (cellar master Cantina Terlano)

A deep ruby red in the nose with a clear superficial fruit of black elderberries and cherries, rounded off by a bitter almond aroma and hints of violets. Fruity in taste, soft and elegant on the palate with a balanced acidity structure and a low tannin content for the Vernatsch variety. SUPERIORE.DE

Flawless Pinot Bianco in bright yellow with clean fruit aromas and lively minerality. Pear, quince and flowery memories on the palate, with a brilliant, creamy texture. The delicate Pinot Blanc belongs to the trademark of the winery. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fresh flowers and sliced apples with some smoke. Medium body, crisp acidity and a creamy finish." James Suckling

"Cantina Terlano specializes in Pinot Bianco (or Weissburgunder in German), and this entry-level value wine absolutely delivers the goods. The 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Tradition is tight and focused, with white peach and citrus aromas that segue to crushed stone and flint. That mineral signature is truly distinctive and beautiful. Slim, very typical South Tyrolean Chardonnay. The glass immediately reveals the character of the international grape variety and the typicality of Alto Adige. We think that's pretty much the biggest thing in this price range. SUPERIORE.DE

"Packaged in a tall, thin Alsatian bottle, the 2018 Alto Adige Chardonnay Tradition offers light and fragrant varietal tones of citrus, white melon and chalky mineral. The wine delivers more density and volume than your standard lean-bodied white, and the mouthfeel boasts long freshness and bright fruity intensity. "Cantina Terlano shows a Midas Touch, even with a workhorse grape like this. The 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Tradition is a vibrant and zesty expression from Northern Italy. The wine clearly shows the high-altitude characteristics of mountain flowers, citrus, white peach and Granny Smith apple. This slightly cooler vintage delivers a sharp and streamlined approach. • Terlaner Cuvée (Classico) Alto Adige DOC 2018

Terlaner Cuvée (Classico) Alto Adige DOC 2018

Terlaner Cuvée (formerly Classico), an expressive white wine made from Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, has been closely linked to the history of the cellar like no other wine since its foundation in 1893. With vintage 2013 he was accepted into the circle of the site wines. Since then his grapes have come from selected vineyards in Vorberg, Kreuth and Winkl. SUPERIORE.DE

"Medium yellow-green, silver reflexes. Fresh apple fruit, delicate mango, fine floral nuances, mineral undertones, delicate white fruit notes. Complex, juicy and close-meshed, fine acidity, extract-sweet hints of tropical fruit, long lasting, dark minerality in the finish, white peach in the aftertaste, sure potential for development." Falstaff

"A subtle white with white pepper, thyme, citrus and quartz and other minerals. What this really trades in is minerality, whereby flinty and stoney aromas are conveyed in a linear streak of acidity. Medium-bodied and medium-long on the finish." James Suckling

"This is the wine that best embodies the identity and personality of this iconic farming cooperative in Alto Adige. The 2018 Alto Adige Terlano Cuvèe is a blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. In the past, I have identified this wine as "Terlano Classico." But in keeping with the actual script on the front label, I have changed its name to Terlano Cuvèe instead. These three varieties reach enormous harmony and balance. The wine's texture is silky and satiny. There is plenty of support for aromas of tropical and passion fruit, peach, pear and sweet almond. It's another lovely pairing with crab or lobster." Wonderfully concentrated wine. Sauvignon Winkl smells of lime, mandarins and mint with a hint of apricot, the bouquet also reminds of crushed rock. On the palate full of character with a fine acid reader, complex, aromatic and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense, reductive nose, fresh, fruity planty, inviting; full fruity, balanced, lengthy, drinkable, pleasing." (JLF) Merum

"Cantina Terlano's 2018 Alto Adige Terlaner Sauvignon Winkl is a beautifully articulate and forthcoming expression that shows the very best of Italian Sauvignon Blanc. It offers a case study as to what makes this grape taste different than, say, competing expressions from the New World or New Zealand. This fragrant grape tends to be less pungent and sharp in Italy, focusing instead on softer tones of summer peach, preserved lemon and passion fruit. The effect is silky, smooth and absolutely delicious." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Cantina Terlano
    Trentino-South Tyrol
    Cantina Terlano

The South Tyrolean municipality of Terlan, about halfway between Merano and Bolzano, combines the advantages of an alpine and Mediterranean climate. The combination of basic microclimatic conditions and the particularities of the soil promotes complex, highly personal and extremely long-lasting wines with a typical regional character, which are well preserved in the Terlan winery. As early as 1893, 24 winegrowers founded the production, sales and marketing association in this small village in the Etsch Valley, thus laying the foundation stone for one of the first winegrowers' cooperatives in South Tyrol. Today, the cooperative already has 143 members who cultivate a total of 162 hectares of vineyards in a committed and environmentally friendly manner.

The south- and south-west-facing, sun-drenched vineyards of the comrades, which begin at the foot of the Tschöggelberg mountain range, extend from gentle hilly areas in the valley floor reaching up to 250 metres to steep and 900-metre-high mountain slopes. The soils are sandy, stony and permeable. The lower sites are particularly suitable for Lagrein, Cabernet and other heavy red wines. Pinot blanc and white varieties, on the other hand, can be found in the higher geographical areas. During the ripening period, warm days and cool nights guarantee a balance of sugar, acidity and aromas. Every single vine of the winegrowers belonging to the Verbund is carefully classified in order to be able to meticulously determine the production quantity.

As one of the four managing directors of the Terlan winery, cellarmaster Rudi Kofler has a keen sense for developing autochthonous and internationally significant, strong, well-structured white and red wines with DOC status, which have a rich and ripe fruit component, in the sanctum of the house. The development and marketing of the - around 70 percent white - drops takes place in three quality lines.

Unique in Italy is the Cantina Terlano Wine Archive, with more than 20,000 bottles, the oldest of which dates back to the year of its foundation and each year a special tranche as "rarità" in small editions of approx. 3,500 bottles. The cooperative, which was published in 2015 by the journal "wine industry" was named Italy's number one for the third time in a row in a cooperative test and its chairman Georg Höller also works in the same function for the Association of South Tyrolean Wine Cooperatives. In 2008, he merged with Andrian Winery, which, however, retains its own brand. SUPERIORE.DE

"The meticulous classification of the vineyards of the individual winegrowers reflects the intimate relationship of this cooperative to its production area. The perfect interpretation of the various terroirs is the result of the stable and sustained success of these mineral, progressive wines, which glide calmly through the years, as shown by the stocks of old bottles that Sebastian Stocker has put back since time immemorial.“Gambero Rosso
