“Tradition” St. Magdalener Alto Adige DOC 2020
"Once upon a time, St. Magdalener, a traditional cuvée of the two autochthonous grape varieties Vernatsch and Lagrein, not only played a very important role in South Tyrolean viticulture but was also one of the most famous Italian red wines. But even today, this finely fruity and characteristically stylish red wine, named after the growing area around the wine village of St. Magdalena, has many lovers and is currently being rediscovered by many a connoisseur." Rudi Kofler (Cellar Master Cantina Terlano)
Strong ruby red, with a clear, superficial fruit of black elderberries and cherries on the nose, rounded off by a bitter almond aroma and hints of violets. Fruity on the palate, soft and elegant with a balanced acidity structure and a low tannin content for the Vernatsch variety. SUPERIORE.DE

“Tradition” Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC 2020
Slender, very typical South Tyrolean Chardonnay. In the glass, one immediately discovers the character of the international grape variety and the typicality of the Alto Adige. Good structure and invigorating freshness. We think this is pretty much the greatest in this price range. SUPERIORE.DE

“Tradition” Lagrein Rosé Alto Adige DOC 2020
The Lagrein Kretzer is a brilliant light red - a typical South Tyrolean rosé. The fresh, fruity taste with memories of blueberries harmonises with the light rose bouquet. A full-bodied, stimulating drop. SUPERIORE.DE
"This bone-dry, full-bodied rosé has a very interesting interplay of tart nectarines and strawberries with leafy and savory character that might not appeal to everyone. But we find it fascinating and very distinctive. Long, very crisp berry and herb finish." James Suckling
"The Cantina Terlano 2020 Alto Adige Lagrein Rosé Tradition shows a medium ruby color with faint purple hues. This nicely saturated color is characteristic of the Lagrein grape that is otherwise known as the protagonist of inky dark red wines. However, this wine is bright and tart with cranberry, wild plum and sweet almond, and it's just the trick for a chicken salad with walnuts and raisins." Robert Parker

The Lagrein Kretzer is a brilliant light red - a typical South Tyrolean rosé. The fresh, fruity taste with memories of blueberries harmonises with the light rose bouquet. A full-bodied, stimulating drop. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright orange-pink. In the nose rather restrained at the beginning, then floral fruity notes. Light nuances of tangerine. Taut on the palate with fine citrus aromas and a salty touch, long-lasting final." Falstaff
"The 2021 Rosé Lagrein is understated yet pretty, as sweet melon and floral tones form its bouquet. This washes across the senses with ease, mixing bright acidity with ripe strawberry and cherry tones. A mass of inner florals linger through the finale, as the 2021 finishes with unexpected length. I would be interested in what a year of further cellaring might reveal here." Vinous

“Tradition” Weißburgunder Alto Adige DOC 2021
Impeccable Pinot Bianco in brilliant clear light yellow with clean fruit aromas and lively minerality. Pear, quince and floral memories on the palate, plus a brilliant, creamy texture. The fine-bodied Pinot Blanc is one of the winery's trademarks. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Pinot Bianco is delicate and understated in the glass, with spring flowers, flint and hints of wet stone forming its bouquet. It flows across the palate with silky textures and medium-bodied weight while delivering a savory mix of orchard fruits and nuances of green citrus. A bitter hint remains as residual acids keep the mouth watering through the saline-tinged finale." Vinous
"An excellent dry pinot blanc that marries invigorating freshness with a fascinating snow-pea and fine green-bean character. You barely feel them directly, but a touch of positive tannin really helps to harmonize this at the very straight and crisp finish." James Suckling

Terlaner Cuvée (Classico) Alto Adige DOC 2021
Terlaner Cuvée (formerly Terlaner Classico) is the wine that best embodies the identity and personality of this iconic agricultural cooperative in South Tyrol. It has been closely associated with the history of the winery like no other wine since its founding year in 1893. Since the 2013 vintage, its grapes have come from selected vineyards in the Vorberg, Kreuth and Winkl sites. Aromas of tropical fruit and passion fruit, peach, pear and sweet almonds are surrounded by a salty, mineral vein, giving this beautiful white wine finesse and the typical Terlan character. SUPERIORE.DE
"A bouquet of smoky crushed stone, exotic florals, honeydew and hints of sweet smoke make the 2021 Terlaner Cuvée impossible to ignore. It’s silky and pliant, with zesty acidity motivating its tart orchard fruits, as savory spices penetrate deeply. This leaves the palate saturated in primary concentration, adding a youthful tension; however, the mouth is left watering for another sip. The perfumed finale seals the deal on this high-energy Terlaner Cuvée." Vinous
"Full, yet subtle nose of crisp pear and candied lemon with delicate herbal notes and a whiff of flint. Impressive substance and textural complexity on the simultaneously generous and precise palate. Spot-on balance of ripeness and freshness at the long, wet-stone finish. A cuvée of pinot bianco, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc with a history going back to 1893." James Suckling

“Winkl” Sauvignon Bianco Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2021
Winkl is the winery's second cult wine after the South Tyrolean Sauvignon icon Quarz. Wonderfully accentuated wine. Sauvignon Winkl smells of lime, tangerines and mint with a hint of apricot, the bouquet is also reminiscent of crushed rock. Full of character on the palate with a fine acid wire, complex, aroma-rich and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Winkl is intense, with a boisterous mix of sour grapefruit, tangerine, ginger and savory herbs. It’s juicy yet salty in character, with vibrant acids accelerating its notes of tart melon and sour apple. This tapers off with a bitter twang of citrus and exotic floral tones and leaves the palate crisply refreshed." Vinous
"A very classic Alto Adige sauvignon blanc with tons of yellow-grapefruit aroma, but also many herbal and sweet vegetal (think green bean, asparagus, etc.) notes. Juicy and vibrant, but also well-structured, this has impressive depth at the bright finish." James Suckling

“Kreuth” Chardonnay Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2020
Impressively structured Chardonnay from the Kreuth estate. The western site produces a very elegant wine that convinces with its fine acidity, creamy structure and an elegant play of aromas. Bright, radiant straw yellow. Complex and balanced, with an abundance of tropical fruits, underpinned by a sensual, salty minerality. Long and persistent. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Chardonnay Kreuth entices as wet stone and spring flowers give way to musky dried apricot and hints of nectarine. This is elegant yet poised, with silky textures and a pretty inner sweetness setting the stage for its floral-laced orchard fruits contrasted by savory spice. The 2020 finishes long yet nicely refreshing with a subtle hint of saline-crisped green apple. Terlano has really outdone themselves with this delicate yet characterful rendition of Chardonnay Kreuth." Vinous
"An elegant chardonnay that combines restrained creaminess with silky and quite mineral acidity right through the generous yet cool palate. Long finish with so much lemon-balm and chamomile freshness. Still very youthful." James Suckling

“Monticol” Blauburgunder Riserva Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2019
The garnet red Pinot Noir Monticol smells of blackberry and wild berries, with fine tobacco aromas and coffee in the background. Delicate and well balanced on the palate, silky tannin, long and slightly mineral on the finish. A great, elegant Pinot Noir. SUPERIORE.DE
"The darkly alluring 2019 Pinot Noir Riserva Monticol opens slowly in the glass, with crushed rocks, flint and dusty dried roses fading to black cherries and clove. This is like pure silk on the palate, yet with a saline core that adds savory depths. A cascade of juicy wild berry fruits flesh out across the palate. The 2019 Monticol tapers off with staining concentration and a coating of sweet tannins, yet it remains remarkably vibrant, lingering with hints of licorice and exotic spice. The Monticol is refined in a combination of large casks (30%) and barriques (70%) for a year prior to bottling." Vinous
"What a beautiful fragrance this very elegant Alpine pinot noir has! Fine red-berry and dried orange-peel aromas with delicate spice from oak. Wonderful integration of generous body and fine tannins, building gently at the long, structured finish. From vineyards between 500 and 600 meters above sea level." James Suckling

“Vorberg” Weißburgunder Riserva Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2019
The rare Riserva Vorberg from Pinot Bianco is open, elegant and expressive. Brilliant straw yellow with light green tones. Generous bouquet with delicately nuanced aromas of peach, apricot and spices. Cool, deep and with all the advantages of the grape variety on the palate. A noble Pinot Blanc with a lot of reverberation and potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"A very deep and concentrated dry pinot blanc that’s only just beginning to give its best. Wonderful balance of creamy richness with delicately toasty and caramelized-pear character. Modest acidity, but so much mineral energy that you don’t think for a second about the scale of the wine (14%). Extremely long and silky finish." James Suckling
"Subtle oak, ripe Williams pear, pineapple, spring floral and chalky bouquet. The palate is mouthfilling and juicy with an impressive intensity of ripe fruit flavours, underscored by crisp acidity, well-integrated alcohol and a long mineral-inflected finish. Super now, and won’t fall over anytime soon. Remarkable." Decanter
"The 2019 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg has an exotic flair, blending rich notes of vanilla custard with white flowers, crushed pears and hints of sweet spice. It’s silky and deeply textural, washing creamy waves of ripe orchard fruits across the palate, while leaving saline-minerals that create a more tactile feel. There are depths yet unseen here, as the 2019 comes across as densely packed and layered, yet with perfect balance and a tart citrus reverberation that adds energy. It finishes long and lightly structured, leaving the palate completely refreshed. This is just a baby today, yet it is full of potential. I tasted the Vorberg from a freshly opened bottle and one that had been opened for two days without any sign of decline." Vinous

“Lunare” Gewürztraminer Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2019
Lunare Traminer Aromatico has an intense straw-yellow colour, with complex aromas of roses, cloves and lychee on the nose. Its taste is very full-bodied with the very slightly bitter finish typical of Traminer. This successful Gewürztraminer is an excellent accompaniment to liver pâté, white meat dishes and refined pasta dishes with sauces and creams. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright golden yellow with green nuances. Finely marked, intense nose with notes of yellow roses, behind cloves, candied ginger and lychee. Intense tropical fruit on the palate, paired with appealing spices, salty." Falstaff
"It's somewhat unusual to find a Dolomite white clocking in at a 15% alcohol content, but here you go, and it works quite nicely. And even though we're talking about a floral Gewürztraminer, given its playful point of zestiness on the close, you could soak up that strength with a bowl of melted raclette on potatoes, as one would do in the Alps. The Cantina Terlano 2019 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Lunare is perfumed and floral with star jasmine, lemon blossom and acacia flower. The wine has some subtle sweetness as well, and it hits the palate with pretty softness and mild richness." Robert Parker
"Super rich and creamy, this has an almost liqueur-like quality, but combined with wonderful yellow-rose and rose-water aromas. Very polished and refined for this grape, which so easily tends to heat and bitterness. Very long, silky and delicate finish, in spite of 15% alcohol. I really don't know how they did that!" Viscous palate with nervy acidity running through the fruit. Really fine, long, perfumed and viscous. You could say Alto Adige's Condrieu but fresher, lighter and alpine in character." Jancis Robinson
"Orchard/tropical fruit and spice nose. Weighty on the palate with moderate freshness and ample fruit concentration. Long, stony finish." Decanter
"The 2019 Terlaner Riserva Nova Domus opens slowly in the glass, but is worth the wait, as a delicate mix of pretty spring flowers, wet slate, crushed pear and hints of lime zests waft up from the glass. It’s silky and round in feel. Lifting acidity and minerals energize the expression as savory spices and rich orchard fruits flesh out across the palate. There’s amazing dimension and youthful density here, all in a harmonious state, as the 2019 tapers off lightly structured and with a penetrating citrus intensity that lingers. There’s much more beneath the surface here, which only cellaring with unlock. A stunning Nova Domus." Vinous
"Incredibly deep and complex nose with a ton of candied pineapple and citrus, plus notes of white pepper, chamomile and verveine. As concentrated as it is highly structured on the imposing, but energetic palate, that energy driving the extremely intense and focused crushed-rock and wild-herb finish. The best vintage ever of this wine! A cuvée of pinot bianco, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc with a history going back to 1893." James Suckling

Terlaner Cuvée (Classico) Alto Adige DOC 2021 · MAGNUM

“Porphyr” Lagrein Riserva Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2019
Dark, aromatic, full-bodied Lagrein Riserva. Scents of dark fruits, herbs, liquorice, toasted oak and minerals. Expansive and very generous on the palate, deep and endowed with wonderful minerality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Saturated colour and nose! Creamy, dark, dense and compelling stuff. Full-bodied, very dry, with lots of oak, rich bitter chocolate notes, grippy tannins and an enticing fruit core. Poised balance but very taut. Long, dry, impressive, oaky finish. There's complexity, but such joyous drinkability too." Decanter
"An enormously concentrated and complex Italian red that is totally distinctive to this region. Stunning nose that marries the blackest berry fruit with notes of raw meat, old balsamic vinegar and crushed rock. The integration of deep fruit, richness and dense powdery tannins is breathtaking, the plush finish extremely long. The best vintage ever of this unique wine!" James Suckling

Deep dark purple. On the nose, tart black cherry and notes of violet candy, graphite and spicy herbs. On the palate, a wonderfully velvety texture, yet punchy, salty and with grippy tannins. Perfectly integrated wood, good structure and a justified hope for a long, ripe life. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brimming with forest-berry and damson-plum aromas, this is a very vivid and expressive red wine, in spite of its ripeness. The substantial, moderately dry tannins still need some time to completely harmonize, but there’s so much good fruit in here. Long finish with stacks of cocoa-powder and dried-sage character. Drinkable now, but best from 2024." James Suckling

“Quarz” Sauvignon Bianco Alto Adige Terlano DOC 2020
Named after the quartz inclusions in the volcanic porphyry rock of Terlan, Italy's most famous Sauvignon Bianco lives up to its name. Filigree, delicately scented with grapefruit, peach, honey and green papaya. Quartz is taut and precise, with a fleshy, creamy texture, great depth and a wonderful mineral-salty finish. Must have and must taste! SUPERIORE.DE
"The word ‘spicy’ doesn’t do the 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Quarz justice, as this goes much deeper than that. Exotic curries, ginger, smoke and tomato leaf can all be found; yet beneath it all, there’s a vivid note of honeydew melon. This is silky-smooth and pliant upon entry, yet it slowly saturates the palate in primary concentration, as pepper-tinged nectarine and lemon extracts resonate throughout. There’s so much youthful tension, power and staining depths within, and also a balancing flourish of sweet inner florals that lasts incredibly long. The 2020 Quarz is going to require cellaring to show its best, but it will absolutely be worth waiting for. This is world-class Sauvignon." Vinous
"A beautifully crafted sauvignon blanc that marries the fruity, herbal, vegetal and mineral aspects of this grape to create a seamless and complex masterpiece. So pure, so elegant and refined, yet also invigorating, thanks to its Alpine freshness. Very long, crystalline finish." James Suckling
"Great varietal definition on the nose with grapefruit and herbal undertones. Rosemary and thyme along with a ripe citrus character. Lovely juicy cool green fruit flavours balanced by a strident minerality. Hard to find a better example of Sauvignon; well worth the money. A metaphysical wine with a lingering finish." Decanter

The South Tyrolean municipality of Terlan, about halfway between Merano and Bolzano, combines the advantages of an alpine and Mediterranean climate. The combination of basic microclimatic conditions and the particularities of the soil promotes complex, highly personal and extremely long-lasting wines with a typical regional character, which are well preserved in the Terlan winery. As early as 1893, 24 winegrowers founded the production, sales and marketing association in this small village in the Etsch Valley, thus laying the foundation stone for one of the first winegrowers' cooperatives in South Tyrol. Today, the cooperative already has 143 members who cultivate a total of 162 hectares of vineyards in a committed and environmentally friendly manner.
The south- and south-west-facing, sun-drenched vineyards of the comrades, which begin at the foot of the Tschöggelberg mountain range, extend from gentle hilly areas in the valley floor reaching up to 250 metres to steep and 900-metre-high mountain slopes. The soils are sandy, stony and permeable. The lower sites are particularly suitable for Lagrein, Cabernet and other heavy red wines. Pinot blanc and white varieties, on the other hand, can be found in the higher geographical areas. During the ripening period, warm days and cool nights guarantee a balance of sugar, acidity and aromas. Every single vine of the winegrowers belonging to the Verbund is carefully classified in order to be able to meticulously determine the production quantity.
As one of the four managing directors of the Terlan winery, cellarmaster Rudi Kofler has a keen sense for developing autochthonous and internationally significant, strong, well-structured white and red wines with DOC status, which have a rich and ripe fruit component, in the sanctum of the house. The development and marketing of the - around 70 percent white - drops takes place in three quality lines.
Unique in Italy is the Cantina Terlano Wine Archive, with more than 20,000 bottles, the oldest of which dates back to the year of its foundation and each year a special tranche as "rarità" in small editions of approx. 3,500 bottles. The cooperative, which was published in 2015 by the journal "wine industry" was named Italy's number one for the third time in a row in a cooperative test and its chairman Georg Höller also works in the same function for the Association of South Tyrolean Wine Cooperatives. In 2008, he merged with Andrian Winery, which, however, retains its own brand. SUPERIORE.DE
"The meticulous classification of the vineyards of the individual winegrowers reflects the intimate relationship of this cooperative to its production area. The perfect interpretation of the various terroirs is the result of the stable and sustained success of these mineral, progressive wines, which glide calmly through the years, as shown by the stocks of old bottles that Sebastian Stocker has put back since time immemorial.“ Gambero Rosso
