      Rosso del Soprano IGT 2015

Stirring liveliness, great elegance and an undreamt-of abundance is offered by this almost unknown Sicilian from mainly Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Freshness and juiciness in the harmonious taste, which merges into an intense and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling garnet red. Fine, intense nose with notes of raspberry and plum, open and accessible. Juicy at the base, fine tannins with a good grip." Falstaff

"Aromas of honeysuckle and Granny Smith apple jump out of the glass. The green apple aroma carries on to the racy palate together with lemon zest and yellow peach. A vibrant perlage provides the backdrop." (Editors' Choice) Wine Enthusiast

    • Faro Palari DOC 2013

      Faro Palari DOC 2013

Amazing dark ruby, purple highlights. In the nose fresh fruit, delicate raisins, fine spice notes. On the palate, full-bodied and long, has a wonderful extract sweetness, rich in silky tannin, very complex, long lasting, already very seductive in its elegant manner. Happy whoever owns this wine or even drinks it... SUPERIORE.DE

"Mid to deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Haunting nose of ripe, perfumed, exotic red fruit and oak. Elegant and gripping palate of succulent fruit and plenty of oak on the finish. Greatness in the making." Jancis Robinson

"Salvatore Geraci is a towering figure in one of Italy's lesser-known appellations. Faro represents the northern tip of the triangular island of Sicily, near Messina. The 2013 Faro Palari is a dark and savory wine with black fruit, smoke, tar and camphor ash. This vintage shows surprising and delightful intensity. The finish is dry and structured with tannins that remain firmly knit for now. These will loosen with more bottle-aging time. I love the authentic character you get here. The crazy blend of grapes used here is Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera in the leading roles. Smaller parts of Acitana, Galatena, Jacché and Core 'e Palumba grapes are also thrown into the blend." Robert Parker

"Intensely fragrant, this has aromas of underbrush, Mediterranean scrub, woodland berry, carob and exotic incense. The palate is all about elegance and energy, delivering red currant, pomegranate, orange zest, star anise and French oak alongside polished fine-grained tannins before a saline close. It's already tempting but hold to let it fully integrate and develop even more complexity." Wine Enthusiast

    About the winemakers
    Palari
    Sicily
    Palari

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Sicily has experienced a real wine boom. The Palari winery is one of the most successful wineries on the Mediterranean island. The team around Salvatore Geraci and his brother Giampiero concentrates mainly on local grape varieties, such as those used in the company's own Palari Faro, which regularly ranks among the best red wines in Sicily and has already been compared to great Burgundies by experts.

The founder of the estate - wine producer, architect, antique expert, university lecturer and globetrotter all in one - is one of the followers of a philosophy that attaches little importance to yield optimisation and marketing. Rather, Salvatore Geraci is far away from fashion trends, especially in search of the perfect red wine. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, he uses for the production in his artisan business, which already has cult status, some unusually old grape varieties that have already been declared dead.

From this enchanting property, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view over the Strait of Messina and the Calabrian coast. The seven-hectare Palari winery is located in the tiny Faro wine growing area, up to 420 metres above sea level, and is supplied with fresh sea air, so it enjoys a special microclimate. Together with the autochthonous grape varieties, this contributes significantly to the regional character of the assortment, which consists of three fine, elegant and complex blend wines with a classicist aesthetic and strong character. All plots are biodynamically farmed. On mineral volcanic soils hang on ancient Alberello sticks such as with Nocera, Cappuccio Tignolino, Core'e Palumba, Calabrese, Galatena and Acitana in very steeply sloping locations towards the sea, laboriously tamed by stone terraces only a few grapes of rare varieties. Due to the low crop yield, the annual production of the Azienda Agricola Palari is particularly limited.

A splendid family villa from the 18th century is used for the vinification and ageing of the wines. Some products are already considered by wine critics to be classics of the modern age. They have received about as many international awards as all the other producers on the island put together. Thanks to the Messina winery, the Palari Faro, the traditional and impressive flagship of the house, has survived to this day. For in the 1980s, at a time when Sicily's viticulture was on the ground, the beguiling and dreamy Kreszenz was threatened with disappearance. Thanks to Salvatore Geraci and the oenologist Donato Lanati, who developed the recipe, this wine experienced a renaissance when the winery was founded. SUPERIORE.DE

"Salvatore Geraci is an all-rounder on the border to universal genius. [...] He fully embodies the rural heroic dimension of viticulture. For no other than heroic one can call the work that is done in the small ... Good."Gambero Rosso
